  • Yeah i just tried taobao, good luck getting anything shipped to australia, they're shipping warehouses are hopeless and reject a bucketload of items! You can't get a refund via alipay unless you have a valid chinese ID or chinese bank account, so if this fails your at the mercy of the sellers, i've attempted to buy 3 things, all of which never made it to me, had to beg a co-worker to take the alipay payment so i could get my money back!

I usually buy things from Taobao through an agent I found in Malaysia (via lowyat.com.my forums) cos I have friends that regularly fly from Malaysia to Australia and happily bring them over for me (with much begging).

My agent charges a better shipping rate plus his commission which is slightly better than Taobao shipping rates direct to Australia. Benefit of this is he can keep the items on hold longer than 30 days (I remember that Taoabao will hold items for 30 days)

Anyways I tried ordering just some shoes and kneeguards for skating. Terrible experience But I did get my items in the end. Don't recommend buying from Taobao direct unless they fix their logistics and bring down the shipping fees.

      • Completely agree!

Can't see why you need to go through a agent. Taobao charging you RMB 50 per kg by Express. Why bother to go around the world? I know my friends they send containers to Malaysia and then to Australia but please be aware only for bulky things in cubic meters.

I used it recently for around 5 times. Every thing is all right so far. They refuse battery, and gas. Rest of them seems like all right. I think refund will be back to your alipay account as balance without any question.

    • May concern is they refuse battery and liquid, which is reasonable. Otherwise I've purchased a dozen times shipped directly to Australia.

  • so tempting.

  • Anyone knows if R8000 is compatible with Arlo system like R7000 does?

    does it have global warranty?

    • I don't think so.

  • I have one of these, it looks fantastic but thats about it :( lots of random wifi drop outs and becoming inaccessible. Ended up going to an old asus RT-N56U and haven't looked back. Maybe I got unlucky.

  • Stay away from Netgear, horrible. Asus is a better option, maybe the AC88.

    • Yeah they are the same hardware so it's horrible. Makes sense!

My friend flashed Netgear with Asus firmware - Merlyn or something sound like that?

  • My r8000 bought from march 17 and last week dead no power… no warranty.. serial shows warranty but my receipt faded so netgear no give me warranty…

Scan your faded receipt and try the software contrast and brightness adjustments.

Do you have a record of your purchase elsewhere, like a bank statement? ACL only require a proof of purchase, not necessarily a receipt.

      • Left in plastic bag and next to window all faded cant see anything, no statement . didnt expect it to only last a few months
I even try replacing to an after market power adapter but dont work.. now use modem wifi free from optus hahaha

  • Anyone know if the firmware is same as global versions? Or as flashable as global versions?

I had a few TP-link products from China, but they only have chinese firmware and cannot flash the english/global versions, makes them a huge pain to setup.
