  • Random but what is the socket type for the main power line?

    • +3

Has a Chinese Plug which is basically the AU plug upside down with no insulation and still compatible.

      • Hi Clear,
Sorry Noob question - does the lack of insulation is a safety issue?
I bought the 3 outlet Mi Power Strip, so curious regarding it.
        Thanks

        • Insulation didn't come into effect until 2005 iirc. If you flick the power off before unplugging the power board you'll be fine.

    • Took me a while to find, it looks like it might be AU plug.

Edit: oh did not realise Chinese plug is pretty much same as ours :o

  • So the 3 usb plugs can supply 5v 2.1a simultaneously?

    • I too would like to know this

    • yes

  • Showed USD $11.11 for me.

    • For which - the 3 or the 6? 3 is cheaper than the 6 …

  • Shipping is slow isn't it, I'm still waiting for the power strips I ordered 5 weeks ago.

    • Gearbest or Joybuy?

Gearbest ones arrived within 3 weeks for my recent orders, not sure on Joybuy, imagine the same.

    • All my joybuy past orders(from Joy collection) took approximately 4-5 weeks to arrive Australia and all shipped by Belgium Post (registered and tracking info provided). It's slow but more secure and need to be signed for. No missing orders so far.

      • Yeah my order was shipped from Belgium but it's taking forever to arrive.

    • Strange. We got our stuff (usb light and bike light) in ten business days. Nlpost and cnpost to Sydney.

  • I was about to make paypal payment on joybuy but gave up. I noticed my delivery address for the state/territory was 2462 (even selecting my state area), so not really trustworthy & reliable.

    • I noticed that too. I clicked on 'Change address' and Paypal said the address came from Joybuy, change it on their site. I went ahead and placed the order anyway, and the shipping address has reverted back to the correct address as I had entered it in the first place.

It's my first time ordering from Joybuy, will see how it goes. Worst case scenario if it doesn't arrive, Paypal dispute and refund.

  • The 3 plug price just changed to USD9.99 now

    • Joybuy app is still showing $7.99 USD for both colors.

      • sorry, it changed to 9.99 when I select 2 but is 7.99 for one

        • Yes, it's limited to one per order for the special price. You can always place multiple orders!

I've purchased 3 of the smaller ones, 2 from Aliexpress and 1 from Geekbuying (IIRC). None of the USB ports are quick charge according to my HTC 10 and Galaxy S7.

I'll get negged, but please don't buy these. They're not insulated for one (yeah yeah it won't happen to you, just like it wasn't going to to all the people it did) and not Australian Standards compliant.

It's not worth it. It's not worth your life, your house, or the life of your children - especially the latter, which is why the insulated pins exist.

    • +1

What's the deal with insulation? I'm not sure if I'm searching the right thing. Is it insulated when it has that plastic 'wrapped' part of the pins near the plug end of the prongs?

      • +1

        Yep

    • -8

I have one of these and this is correct as per:
      http://www.appliancetaggingservices.com.au/blogs/insulated-p…
I think I'll go for something that is Australian Standards compliant next time.

      • +1

lol some electrical testers at work doing the tagging didn't even unplug anything from memory to check this

      • Yep as mentioned above, turn off, then unplug (which tou should do anyway). But the risk is so small. I mean who grabs the pins when plugging in/out? And how do yoy getyour fingers in there in there? Lastly the safety fuse will trigger too.

I'm all for safety, but sometimes they expect you to drive around with your airbags deployed in case you have an accident.

If anyone is really worried, change the plug. Its not rocket science (I wired my first plug at age 11 & its still working).

        • +1

The insulation is for those people that unplugged using a fork or a knife. Plastic chopsticks users are safe.

      • Quotes from http://www.appliancetaggingservices.com.au/blogs/insulated-p…

"Insulated pins greatly increase the safety of an appliance as they stop accidental contact between the active pins of plugs where not fully engaged in a socket." Everything needs idiot proof.

"Items without insulated pins do not automatically fail as part of a Test and Tag program to AS/NZS 3760:2010."

Find me an Aussie approved one with the same features and I'll gladly stop buying them.

    • Seven negs, hilarious. Perhaps I should have explained I have a three year old first.

having children isn't a valid reason to downvote a deal. downvote revoked.

      • But why would you unplug a powerboard?

Having had a few 3yo in my life they like turning switches off & on. But if you're worried the place it out of their reach, like knives.

    • Get some insulation band around it ?

What a pos website. Keep getting error when submitting my order. Somehow my username is randomly generated number and my avatar is a russian small boy.

  • Thanks OP. Ordered 6 outlet. Perfect for my study room appliances / Chargers

    • +2

Just a warning as I already own a couple of these. This six socket version has a soft power switch. If you experience a power failure or unplug it etc. It'll stay off, you'll need to turn the board back on again after. Kind of annoying design flaw.

      • +1

        Agreed.

      • Oh sh*t ! ah well. This will go to the ozbargain collection box then. Thanks for letting me know.

  • +2

If you have long adapters, they will cannibalize the one opposite to them, due to plugs being upside down. In an AU strip, they will hang off the strip.

Bought the smaller one for backpacking Europe

  • +1

    I got one of these.

Be aware that because of the orientation of the sockets (ie. upside down), you can plug chunky power packs / adapters in one side and expect to use the other.

You can only use all the socks effectively if you use standard 3 pin cable devices, not devices that use power packs / transformers that a take up room.

  • 3 outlets shows $9.99 even only select one item.

  • worst design ever
if you put an adapter on the top plug your wont be able to use the bottom plug i don't recommend it

    • I use this with all my gadgets that have EU/US power supplies and I'm sure heaps of others do too. It's cheaper than buying replacement chargers or adapters.
