  • Is the mate series their flagship lineup or is that the P series?

    • +5

They are both flagships but are launched at different times
if you are familiar with Samsung's Product like I like to think that the P series is Like the Galaxy S series and the Mate series likens to the Note

      • Thanks guys, I always thought mate series was midrange for some reason..

    • +3

The mate series uses the new kirin 970 where the p10 uses the older kirin 960. It also uses an older version GPU. Always seemed strange that they have the P's and the Mates, very similar. I've played with both phones and the mate 10 seems more "premium" but i guess that is subjective.

  • So the question is, does the VR Camera worth $98 for?

  • -4

Both are same company… it's just another price jacked!

    • Different Company.
      Buymobileau - Amaysim (HK Operations)
      allphones_online - Mobileciti

      2 totally different companies.
      Amaysim only stocks grey stock.
MobileCiti stocks plenty of AU stock, and has a pretty good rep on Ozbargain.

      • You guys down votes got no clue what I'm talking about.
@lplau Where did I mentioned buymobileau or amaysim?
As OP comepare to other deal included vr camera from Mobileciti $888 and this deal including 20% off without camera only $98 cheaper!

        • You said they are both the "same company", but they aren't……
Also some might not think the VR camera is useful and worth $98.

        • @lplau: allphones = Mobileciti

  • -4

Gee, $800 for a phone. Ain't no can afford that.

    • +2

…..$1850 iPhone X all sold out world wide. They can't make them enough.

      • +9

        Cult vs no Cult. lol.
If there was an Apple iTurd, it would also be sold out and have queues spanning several blocks on launch date.

        • +6

This is Ozbargain, so please only refer to the Xiaomi MiTurd.

      • +4

Anyone who pays that much for a phone is a moron.

        • how so

        • +1

@dajackal: That's what 90% Android users worldwide think. Not my innovation.
Apple users want less for more, others, more for more.

  • +1

    I'm waiting for the PRO.

  • +2

The oneplus 5T got announced today.

    • +3

Thats the Phone I am waiting for https://oneplus.net/au/5t but looks like Aussies sales have been pulled :(

      • +1

So no au stock for 21st nov. sad :(

    • I'm not sure if things have much improved, but my time with the OPO has demonstrated woeful reliability and customer service issues with that company. Not too keen to hop on it again.

    • Still retains the 1080p display and the camera change is questionable.

A camera comparison between IPhone, Note 8,Pixel 2 and the Mate 10.

All things considered I think Mate 10 is definitely worth the money.

    • +1

So you save some time: https://youtu.be/dfUvF_IAfhk?t=298
Pixel2XL>Note8>Mate10>iPh8+ (iPhX would be somewhere in the middle).

      • +1

Pretty sure Mate 10 and Note 8 positions should be swapped based on all the comparisons I've seen.

        • Mate 10 camera is better than Note 8 but slightly inferior to IphoneX according to reviews online.

  • +4

Only flagship phone that hasn't been hit by 18:9 cancer.

    • Not enough cancer. They are moving to cinema ~2.39:1 or 21.5:9. Most phones default (eg. Apple) to archaic 4:3 photo capture.

  • Can get S8 for $100 cheaper. Is this better than S8?

    • you are comparing grey import vs local stock as well

    • +1

S8+ would be a better comparison. Between those 2, the Mate 10 has a better camera but the S8+ has a better screen.

      • +1

and better battery —> mate 10.

    • -1

Can get Mate 10 grey for $810 and then minus 10% or 20% eBay promo.

  • Doesn't appear to be compatible with Daydream (yet):

    https://vr.google.com/daydream/smartphonevr/phones/

    • I don't think any IPS displays can meet the latency requirements for Daydream.

  • If you are considering this, perhaps also look at the Essential phone. I just got one and love it. It is a bit cheaper, but doesn't have a few of the features on this phone.

    • No local warranty

  • For trs purposes how much tax is reflected? Reduced price or full price?

    • +1

      Full price

  • With TRS you actually only pay AUD 700 for Mate 10. I wish I have another oversea trip coming up so I can get this awesome price.

  • +1

    Received my phone yesterday.
    Quick Summary for interested buyers:
    +ves
    1) Great Cameras (Front & Back), prepare to be blown away.
    2) 2 day battery.
    3) 16:9 Form Factor, if you prefer.
    4) Flagship Performance.

    -ves
    1) Screen is not an eye candy like S8 etc.
    2) It will never as capable VR phone as S8, Pixel.

    • A qn SpaceNinja if you have time to answer. I haven't used a Huawei before (currently use Xiaomi) and was thinking of heading more towards vanilla android experience next time around (previously enjoyed the Nexus series of phones). The hardware and particular cam on this really interest me though. I'm not a big rooter of phones so assume I won't do it.
How is the software experience? Have you owned Huawei before? Any other phone brands you've owned for a reference would help too :)

Edit - one more qn. How long did it take to arrive? I have a mate headed overseas Friday..

      • +2

Its def not vanilla android. They have a substantial layer on top of Android (similar to Samsung). But there are no annoyances & usability is good. I actually prefer such enhancements(one example: for a missed call the notification includes number of seconds the phone rang for).

    • Pretty quick shipping. Hope you are liking the black finish.
Regarding the screen, how bland is it?
Deal breaker/bad or you'd only notice it if side by side with an AMOLED panel? Also, can you adjust the colours i.e. does the vivid mode help?

      • Call Amoled as 1
        G6/iPhone as 2
        This will be 3.
There are no issues like loss of detail as such, but colors just do not 'pop'. There are some config options but haven't played much with them.

        • Thanks for the prompt reply mate :)
I am having second thoughts now though it does tick all other boxes for me. I tried to find it in store but there were no display units available at JBHIFI/Vodafone. I am on Nexus 6P and I like the screen alot.

        • @settler:
Hey, just played with display settings a bit as vivid color—>on, color temp—>warm and comfort mode—>OFF. And it's looking pretty good now just like 2) above :-) . I will suggest have a quick look at jb once they display. Cheers.

        • @settler: Huwawei being stingy and not giving out demo samples.

        • @krisspy: funny i was at vodafone today and they didn't have one! bit shocked as thought they were the major telco selling them. They had a Mate 9. Anyway i went to JB hifi and the fella checked his handheld which said he had them in stock including a demo. got him to rip out the box and had a fiddle with it. Niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice

  • I really want this but also…the more I read about EMUI the less i think I can live with it sigh :(

  • Back in stock. Bit the bullet and bought one without playing with it first

  • Good price… seems I was looking at the wrong phone….
