  • What is the installation process? Will this work during a blackout?

    • +5
      1. Put it where it needs to go
      2. ???
      3. Profit!
    • +3

      it's easy… fuel > start > plug ….
for this price should be fine

      • Thank you. I have a centre where the lights needs to stay on during blackouts. Currently I have a few chargeable portable lamps.
Hopefully this thing isn't too noisy.

        • Just to be clear, this won't run your lights. You need to physically plug something into this - such as a workshop light.

        • @random110: Yeah. I have to also buy some workshop lights. Thanks.

        • @congngo: A bit late, but make sure you get the newer LED types. The old halogen ones are a huge waste of power, and you have limited power available with a generator.

    • +1

Either you plug something in to the socket on the side, like an extension cord leading to multiple emergency lights, or you pay an electrican $500 odd dollars to wire it up to your switchboard so that in an emergency you can connect it to your house electrical circuit without all the power running away to your neighbor.

      • Pretty sure that is illegal as it might kill somebody working on supposedly safe downed lines etc

        • +1

That's why you pay the electrician to wire it up, which then isolates it from the street…

        • @placardsd:
Probably different rules state to state

        • @King Tightarse:

I think most states would allow this. Any house that has solar panels has an anti-islanding feature which shuts down generation within a fraction of a second once it detects the grid has lost power.

If you've got batteries it shuts off grid connection and continues to only power your home.

        • @Name:
I did not know that about solar set ups. Cheers

  • $66 for delivery to me.

    • +2

and likely even more when you WILL need to pay to return it for Kogan "warranty"

  • $45 delivery for me

  • +1

    $28 delivery for me

  • +7

That is remarkably cheap for a 3500W genny. I would hazard a guess that noise and fuel consumption would be astronomical.

    Note postage is:
    $35 to 2000
    $28 to 3000
    $44 to 4000
    $33 to 5000
    $61 to 6000
    $68 to 7000

    • Reports online say its only around 1500W. That maybe the misleading 3500W peak and cannot be sustained.

      • +2

Yep was just looking at that too. This thing is worthless

      • +1

Probs be fine to keep my gear online in a power outage, for $117 delivered ($10 voucher from price error) I probably can't go too far wrong..

    • I started reading this as 'postage cost varies from $35 to $2000'

Broden called SA gov might clear them out

  • +2

I might need one for my zombie apocalypse shelter :)

    • +5

      The noise would attract them.

      • +12

That's fine, Hero actually is looking to shelter zombies.

        • Oh snap, you got me there. :)

      • +1

Not if they're OzB Zombies as will all be wearing QC35'S.

WOW those reviews! Yeh guys please read up on this one, looks like pot luck if it will work

  • +1

Great price. But more of an educational tool …

    • if it works, otherwise the person being educated would fail badly.

  • +1

Ex-Masters stock. Basic china engine at clearance rates. I doubt there will be warranty/backup/parts if you need any and its priced to reflect that.

  • +1

This price could generate a lot of interest.

    • Well, you tried.

      • I should have emphasised could

        • More subtle if you inverted the text.

  • Additional common sense comment, don't run it in a closed room with you in it.
    Carbon dioxide kills people.

    • +2

      Monoxide..

    • +2

      Carbon dioxide kills people.

Yeah, but takes a long time for the sea-level to rise and drown you.

    • Lol we breathe carbon dioxide out… haven't seen it causing any harm to anyone..

      • Actually, carbon dioxide is quite poisonous. Concentrations above 1% will cause drowsiness, 8% will cause unconsciousness. More can give you a acute case of death.

But carbon monoxide is generally the worse one to worry about from these.

So, 3000rpm when no load so probably not quiet even when on idle

Good for camping maybe when you tend to have lower power requirements.

Might be ok for a power outage at home, but you need to run it outside so could end up with angry neighbours.

Frankly, depending on load, might be better off with a decent truck battery and a 12V to 240V inverter….

    • might be better off with a decent truck battery and a 12V to 240V inverter….

Or attach the inverter to your idling car engine. Preferably with the idle speed raised.
Do cars do that automatically under electrical load?

  • Sold out. Guess people still wanted to buy cheap gennies

  • +1

Grabbed one before it sold out and used the Amex Paypal offer so got a further 20% off the price. Comes with a 12 month warranty but as I used the Amex you get a further 12 months on top. For $103 delivered and a 2 year warranty figure it is worth the risk to have around for the occasional power outage.

    • Nice work! Would of smashed it even further if you had the 2 month shipster trial (if its available in your area).

  • "makes great boat anchor"

I thought 909 was a Masters hardware home brand - perhaps Kogan bought up their stock?

    • Yes. Therefore don't expect support/parts.

    • Obviously Kogan bought out this stock when Masters was liquidated. They probably paid little amount of money for this liquidated stock and so is why Kogan could sell it off for so cheap.

  • Great price

  • +3

I am looking forward to laughing my ass off at my neighbors while this puppy purrs away during a power outage for the first hour or so before it dies in the ass. That said $100 for 2 hours of power to surf oz bargain means a good chance I will make the purchase price back in savings .. clearly this was a solid investment ;)

  • Just dont hook up any electronics.
The surges will kill them and then you will have put yourself a fair way out of pocket.

    • unstable sine wave, too many peaks. Although I though nowadays genees had gotten a little smarter with controllers etc?

      • Im no expert but its just a bit too expensive been wrong.
I was lucky when we had a black out up here a few yeats back it only killed my power pack to the 360. That generator is about 4 years old now.

    • Is OK have UPS's on everything.

      • How long does your UPS last off the battery?. I would think not long.

        • Around 20mins, enough time to plug the extension lead in and start the genny

        • @XeKToReX:

Well i guess it will be your UPS getting killed by a surge from the gennie.

  • Got the dredded cancelation email from Kogan.. Clearly a price error..

    • No it can't be. I just got a email today from Kogan saying that all 909 products were being cleared at $99 and that every thing must go. There is no pricing error.

    • Just got my shipping email with tracking#

    • morrisoc. You probably failed some payment security test.

      • Hmmm. Recently purchased a couple the annual KoganMobile plans no issues. What may have happened was me buying it very close to it going out of stock. Still disappointed..

  • Is anyone still waiting for it to ship, mine still says "processing in warehouse".

    • After all this time i don't think you'll ever be getting it. I suppose you could be seeking a refund.

      • I sent a message to them and they just said that they were really busy.

  • +1

The generator arrived earlier this week. Pretty good price for what it is. Hope it works when I actually need to use it!

    • So you haven't even tested it to see if it works?. Fat good it will do if there's suddenly a power blackout but it won't start because it's faulty and you didn't even bother testing it before hand.

      • It's for camping rather than a blackout, so I'd test it before I need it.

  • Got my refunded with 10 bucks voucher as no stock
