"you can’t really go wrong"… unless you want to do anything serious with it. It's got a celeron.

On specs alone, this is slightly better at $20 cheaper

plus read other users comments about suggested alternatives.

    • Don't compare Toshiba to Compaq.
      Compaq is rubbish :(

      • hence my comment 'on specs alone'

      • i love toshiba

        • Toshiba used to make the best laptops, not anymore.

Toshbia have been crap for quite a while. Compaq are just HP now. Dell=HP=Compaq=Sony (the cheap ones)=Acer are all the same. They even all look the same, if that is not a clue, then you will never figure this stuff out.

  • Same price at Beecom Technologies and IT estate:

    No deal here

  • oh i didn't know that! it just looked like a good deal when i saw it. thanks!
..although i don't see beecom offering the free mp3 player as well?

  • I'd say it's a pretty solid machine, for basic MS Office use etc. 2GB is a good amount, sure not much compared to 8GB top of the range models but still a pretty solid amount of RAM, especially on Windows 7. If it was Vista it'd be hamstrung. This is a much better machine that the $500 machnines you would have got a year or so a go.

Might be worth spending a bit more, but if that's ur budget i'd say go for it.

    • Windows 7 needs 4gb, unless you only want to run Windows 7. If you want to run office, you need the extra ram.

  • does anyone know the postage cost?

i just put it into my shopping cart. i'm based in canberra and it says $18 but if you are in victoria metro and geelong it says $8.25. hope that helps!

  • I bought ACER Aspire AS5552 for $494 (after 99 cashback) in the open special at Chadstone JB HIFI today, here is a similar model from Harvey Norman: http://www.harveynorman.com.au/product/1256973051121/acer-as…
totally 150 units available, and there were still quite a few when I left.

    • The HN link you gave is for a quad-core CPU. Are you sure it wasn't a dual-core CPU that you purchased? I've tried to find it on JB Hi-fi's website, can only find the dual-core around that price. Do you have receipt?

      • The sale was advertised on Tuesday's Herald Sun, and the CPU was claimed to be AMD P320, but I found the CPU is actually P340 dual core 2.2GHz, a little better, and the laptop model number is: ACER Aspire AS5552-P344G50mn. I found this machine in HN looks closer (except the CPU): http://www.harveynorman.com.au/product/1256972802993/acer-as…
Just successfully registered for the caseback. If the receipt can be of help. I may scan and upload.

        • By the way, that is the new JB HIFI store adjacent to Harvey Norman, not the one in Chadstone shopping center
