Not sure what to say about this camera, i bought one in June when there was a deal. I connected it in September and few days ago the screen went half dead, camera stopped recording , froze, cant access the menu to reset it, tried updating the firmware but the camera doesn't respond. Had to send it back to China today to get it repaired. Buy only if its local and they will deal with the warranty and not that you need to send it yourself to China as i did…

I think that the heat is the issue with the camera.

Not sure, what to say about your comment, but there are a lot of happy ozbargainers around

I think you completely missed the point…

        • Agree

      Why buy local?

It cost me something like $20-25 to send mine back to China.

The only reason why you would want local warranty is if you can walk into the store with it, and any store with one of these would charge $200

    • I had the same problem. Then I read in the viofo forum that a lot of other users had the same issue.

I could upgrade the firmware though. But it still comes back once in a while. So I go through the same process again.

  • Bought this dash camera a few months back and it's also having issues with recording, like others. Have these 5 black block crosses on the bottom right hand corner of the screen and for some reason it stopped recording. Maybe it is better to pay a little more and local for peace of mind. Cheers

    • There is a solution in the viofo forum. You need to upgrade the firmware. The problem might come back again though. Rinse and repeat

    • We got the same issue and fixed it by mounting the dashcam in the rear using a different gps module.

      • I don't have a GPS module.

    • You need firmware version 3.4

Nice deal. I remember paying more than 100 aud shipped back around September.

no one talked about the video quality.

  • Is there a decent dash cam around the $50 mark? GPS optional

    • The 118 version of this is the best in that range I would think

      • The generic A118C (if that's what you're referring to) does have issues with a percentage of them having a camera that goes out of focus in the heat.

When I first got mine a month or so ago it was sharp, but now the image is a little blurry (the dashboard however is sharply in focus). I think mine might not be as extreme as some other examples.

If the "brand name" Viofos with better quality components also have their own issues, I wonder if I should just keep using my A118C until something goes wrong with it.

But might keep an eye out for a discounted Viofo A118C if those have the least amount of gremlins.

g1wcb dash cam. they cost around that price point during sales.
I'll been using the g1wc version (silver colored version) for about 2 years now, and its still going strong. I park my car on the driveway uncovered. So heat is hardly a concern.

  • My 119 has been great until I updated the firmware to the latest, now resets constantly.

  • Is there a way this can be mounted on a motorcycle?

    • More like "how can I mount this on a motorcycle, so that random passers-by can't steal the micro-sd card?"

Perhaps buy a suitably-sized spotlight, discard the internals of the spotlight, and put the dashcam inside. Also put a power supply inside, motorbikes don't have cigarette-lighter sockets. The spotlight housing will protect the dashcam from rain and from random passers-by.

Even then, the vibration of your motorbike may make the video footage unusable.

What are the other options in this price range? (Or up to around $100)

    Main concern is image quality

  • I have 2x g1wcb for about a year, still working great.

Also just received 2x A119S recently, installed one, better image than g1wcb because of 1080p 60fps. reliability not yet proved

Got one and hopefully will be reliable.
Will get a second one if it is reliable.
