  • I have added [new customers only] and T&C's

    • Does that mean current customer can not activate?

Can i activate a new number, does that consider a new customer?

      • Yes ;)

  • when you go over quota, do they cut off your data or auto recharge?

  • +1

My dad had a Lyca, then ported to Kogan. Would he be considered new customer?

    • I think so. As long as the number is not currently with them.

  • +1

A good deal, but 3 months is quite short. 6 months for $48 would have been better

  • +4

Feel free to repeat this deal in say… late March? ;)

  • +3

    Redeem by: 31 Jan 2018 (11.59pm AEDT)
Select SIM card type, enter personal details and Voucher Code
Product will be shipped to you in approx. 2-7 days from redemption

I imagine this will be similar to the last deal (15 days to activate once you receive the activation email - after sim dispatch)

    • Can anyone clarify?

      • Meaning you will lose 15 days?

        • +6

No, purchase the Groupon item - they send you a code.
Redeem that code @ Lycamobile and they will send the sim card 2-7 days later.
After the sim is sent you will receive an activation email.
Then you will have 15 days to activate the sim online.
(I'm assuming it will be the same as previously)
          confirmed

        • @axeology: so the 3 months starts from the date of activation not redemption of the code?

        • +1

@tajid: Yep, just confirmed with CS

        • @axeology: What happens on the 16th day if you do nothing?

        • +1

@Fobsessive: I got this in an email once they dispatched my sim from a previous deal:

Your SIM will be delivered within 5 working days.
Your SIM with plan PIN will be expired in 15 days. Please redeemed the PIN before expiry, otherwise you will lose your plan

        • @axeology: Should've read this lol. I just redeemed. Have active Kogan plan till 31 Jan, will need to contact them sigh.

        • @axeology:

I have redeemed 5 days ago, and got a e-mail message from Lycamobile about the redeem.
However up to now still have not received the sim, and have not received the 2nd message yet.

I am worried because my Vaya prepaid will expired by 31/12/17.
          Any good suggestion?
          Thanks.

        • @seniordoc: i think the xmas holidays might be causing some delays. The only thing i can think of is to not pay for your next month and have the number reason active but with no data or credit. I realise this may not be a suitable option though.

    • why the wait of 2-7 days. what happens if you get the sim at a local store and activate it online, just wondering?

      • +1

        you lost $2 ?

        • my plan will be resetting in 2 days. Eighter I have to port out my number soon or continue with Voda, which I dont want to.

        • +2

@z3ro: you could pick one of these up from an Optus store for a month, then port out to this Lyca deal

  • Bonus discount of $0.08 for the 6GB :)

  • Thanks EC!

  • +7

Used 'YOURGIFT' on a new groupon account and got 10$ off.

    • -1

      Thanks added to title

      • Does Groupon's desktop site allow stacking of multiple codes, or you can only apply a single code to each transaction?

        • No, I tried to add both but only 1 accepted at a time

  • +13

excess data charged at $70 a gig?

really in this day an age??

i just signe dup to the optus 17gb $30 plan, just the piece of mind is worth it over this.

    • Good call. Not risking it as I’ve had apps go rogue before, that charge seems very excessive.

    • Can't you limit the mobile data in settings so you won't go over the quota?

    • I think that's only applicable if you are using PAYG credit.

  • Would coverage be the same as ALDImobile?

    • My understanding of companies that use 'parts of' the Telstra network or state 4G is that you get all the 3G and 4G bits, but not the 4GX which I think is the very fast newest form of 4G in built up areas. I stand to be corrected though.

      Dunno who Aldi use.

      • +2

        Aldi use telstra wholesale apparently.

      • +1

It's also the remote coverage that's not part of the Telstra wholesale network, as this is the part of the network that remains a key selling point, so they need to get a return of some sort.

  • Thanks!
My 12month vaya plan is just about to expire, perfect timing.

  • do we have an option to choose the num, while ordering sim?

    • bought one, no option to choose the number.

  • Activated the coupon on the lyca website.
At no point did I get asked if I wanted a new number or if I'm porting an existing number.
    Did anyone else?

    • +2

same here…tht will be asked while activating sim

  • Code 'SANTA' also gives 20% discount, is there a difference? EC20?

Edit: No, it doesnt.. ignore lol

  • Got one, thanks OP!

  • Thanks OP. Got one.

  • So for plan S the total cost for 3 months is $29.90 x 0.8 = $23.92. So per month the cost is $7.97. Is this correct?

    • Ok looks like I got it wrong. Cost is $7.97 for 28 days and not per month.

    • +1

      2+2 is 4 - 1 that's 3 quick maths

      • I know the maths is correct. Just want to make sure I have not missed anything with the cost of this deal.

  • +3

Not 3 months. Only 3*28 days.

  • Anyone with Lyca that can comment on what the service is like?

  • +1

Cheers. Bought one with "new" Groupon account. $19.90 using YOURGIFT.
Works out to $6.63/28days ($7.20/month) but 6GB on Telstra seems a safer bet than Vaya deal.

  • -8

Groupon, the mob that sell you something, yet fail to ship hardware to activate the software.
Buyer beware and ensure you use your credit card/paypal to claim back if they fail you too.

    • +4

This deal doesn't require hardware shipped from Groupon.

      • -1

        No SIM?
Either way, it's an indication of the service one can expect.
Yet since fols rather dv a heads up, I'll refrain from it in future and allow folks to wallow in their own misery when shit hits the fan!

        • The SIM is shipped by Lyca.

        • @sween64:
          Groupon manage the deal!

  • +4

The T&Cs say that calls to 13XXXX and 18XXXX numbers are excluded.

    • +3

S#@T. I just bought the voucher without checking it. I called the customer service and it's around 25 cents per minute when you can 1300 or 1800 numbers.

  • What happens after the 3 months?

    • +1

      Reverts to full price.

      • Ahh I see, thanks. Doesn't seem like a good deal if it's only for 3 months.

  • Thank you OP.

  • Excess data charged for a prepaid service?A big NO for me!Anyway, it's still a good deal

  • If I bought the $1 deal earlier but haven't activated it, can I still buy this to use instead?

  • OK someone already asked this but did not get a real answer. If you purchase this can you buy a $2 sim and activate it against this plan rather than waiting for a free one to be shipped?
Also if auto renew is not selected how could they charge you for excess data?

  • When does this offer expire, meaning you can't buy it anymore, cos someone posted that it expires after 15 days of shipping and i'm going in holidays till 15th of January

    • According to description above, the deal expires today so you need to buy it today. Then you have to redeem the voucher code with LycaMobile (that will be sent to you after you make the Groupon purchase) by 31 Jan 2018 (11.59pm AEDT). So for you, buy it today, then when you get back from your holiday go to the LycaMobile website, sign up, enter voucher code and they will then send you a SIM to get started.

  • I made purchase now in Groupon my payment went through via paypal money was deducted immediately .
No email , groupon doesn't appear in my groupone tab.
So they deducted money but no goods.
Currently waiting 30 minutes in groupon online chat.
    Shocking exereince with groupon.

    • Did you check your junk email folder?

  • Minimal experience with the Telstra network, can these resellers access the Telstra air WiFi hotspots or do you need to be with Telstra directly?

    • Telstra directly. I think all you need is to be a Telstra customer which only requires an account which can be accessed with a $2 SIM.

      • Oh nice, thanks. I'm travelling at the moment so I'll give that a whirl 👍

  • My experience with Lyca was horrible. Firstly, they use their own network carrier code but have no network. What this means is that you are always in roaming mode (even on the Telstra network) which drains the battery.
Secondly, if you are planning on using it in NZ forget it - they only have roaming agreements with a few selected countries. And lastly, whilst they provide a customer service number it is impossible to reach (waited for 1 hour more than once and still no success), emails are answered after 1 week!

    • So in Australia it's on roaming mode? That's bizarre. Strange that you say no roaming in NZ. Website says otherwise. See here: https://www.lycamobile.com.au/en/roamingrates

What was the service like otherwise? Any problem with billing or reception?

    • Roaming does not eat more battery.

  • The T&Cs say that calls to 13XXXX and 18XXXX numbers are excluded.
    This kills the deal.

    • Yet you still upvote it ?

      • 😏

      • I just found out after I upvoted. Can’t easily undo my vote

  • Last time I was with them they didn't allow tethering (creating a mobile hotspot with your phone) so beware

  • I just went to lyca website, and sign up as a new customer for $1 deal, with 6Gb data and unlimited calls (national and international), it will expired before 12pm tonight.

    • It expired 20 mins ago, way before the 30th end of night deadline!!!

  • can you cancel the plan after 3 months?

  • Starting to wish I didn't purchase this I am currently with ALDImobile and have been happy with them this telco sounds like a nightmare from the comments above.

  • Looks like mms is not included in the plan

  • I activated my new number and activated the Plan using the PIN mentioned
Lyca Mobile website mentions my plan expiry as 28 days? Why?
I thought this was suppose to be for 3 months/84 days

  • So I've recieved the SIM but the using the PIN that they sent me does not work, they told me to register the SIM on the website however in the option to transfer my number is doesnt have Kogan as an option and is asking for an account number as well (this is a pre-paid service). Has anyone managed to activate this deal yet? How did it go ?

    • Turns out you have to register the SIM online first using the PUK code. The number transfer I had to do via their 122 service number. Confirmed with rep that it will auto-recharge for the second and third month. Use code *190# to disable auto recharge in the last month. $10 a month for 3 months, what an absolute bargain.

  • I activated mine. Went OK. You have to register the PUK on the website first and then you can activate the service using the PIN they sent you. I also am not sure how this service ‘auto-renews’ after 28 days. Lyca don’t have any payment details… unless Groupon does it…? One thing though - I can’t get 4G to work on my iPhone. It is constantly stuck on 3G. Anyway, for the price it’ll be useful.

  • +1

    Lyca is a nightmare I have discovered…

Couldn't port my number from Kogan until I spoke to them, which took 2 x 30min hold times resulting in disconnects, tried again today and that resulted in the port working.

4g speeds are 4mbps… I feel like I have been trolled.

  • +1

I had to ring them because my port failed for no apparent reason.
Had to ring again because I have no mobile data. Still don't, they are "looking into it".
My brother also took up the deal, also had to ring up to get data working.
You also need to have mobile roaming turned on.
    What a shit show.

    • I dont have mobile data either. Any word on this?

      • +1

Yeah they sorted it out the next day.

  • "Lycamobile prepaid service doesn’t allow video-calling or sending/receipt of MMS." MMS is not only excluded from the plan but unavailable even if you are willing to pay for it. That's a deal breaker!

  • +4

I went through the rather awkward porting process and am now up and running. These are my findings

    • Their website isn't very user friendly. Fyi to request a porting of your number you 'Register' on this page
    • If you are porting in from Aldi Mobile you select TW Paradigmone as your provider
    • Call centre is offshore and took 1hr+ on hold before getting through to someone. To be fair he was helpful, but in the end referred me back to website to complete my porting request
    • They don't have a mobile app
    • You have to dial those weird *# numbers from your phone like its the 90's to add your bundle
    • Now this is the weird one… Due to some configuration on their end, your phone will always be in roaming mode. It doesn't seem to be a big deal - but on my Samsung S7 it just looks/feels weird as the UI displays both local and home times in different sections. I have a gut feeling this also impacts battery life also.
    • Speed appears to be the same as Aldi
    • Porting process was very quick. Less than an hour for me.

    Edit: formatting and porting time.

    • +2

Just to add to this, if you are porting in from Kogan Mobile you select Vodafone as your provider.
Call wait was less than 30 mins today.
