Google Home Mini - $53 @ Officeworks

1530

Officeworks are now matching The Good Guys ($54) for the Google Home Mini. Probably doesn't work out as good as now they aren't beating the price, but a good price all the same.

Edit: Now matched to Harvey Norman ($53).

        • @John Kimble:

Yes, I understand. Again, I'm not arguing that it is not always listening…

The way you initially worded it implied that you were.

I don't understand what is different about this product compared to any phone or device that has a camera and/or mic…anything could
be hacked or listening to you without knowledge (presumedly).

Those functions can be disabled and the phone be used for other purposes. That is this device's sole function. Disable it and it has no reason to exist.

One day if someone hacks google/apple and gets access to everything it stores from people dependent on these devices it's going to be hilarious.

        • @lostn:

What I said is accurate then.

        • @lostn:
          Then sell it

@lostn: It is always listening. But it checks if you said the phrase internally and then after that connects to google for your command.
So only things you say after the command will be sent to google servers

The exact same as your phone.

anyone else annoyed that the power plug takes up slightly more than half the space of a double socket?

anyone else also slightly happy that the big round power socket lets you wind up the spare cable nearly around it?

So many comments, can't believe this hasn't been posted yet! :)

  • Unexpected feature - this morning I was playing music to it, and when I was on the train to work I could still control the speaker. Of course I started playing Baby Got Back to my housemates.. I think they plugged it out in the end

    • Was this Spotify? If so it's a feature of Spotify not the device. My partner and I use the same spotify login. I can open the app and see what she's listening to. I can change the songs, pause etc all remotely as it shows up as an available device.

  • Plays Trivia with u, pretty cool. Although it wouldn't turn my chrome cast built in TV on. But oddly enough, when I request it stream youtube, it wakes my TV up. Still slightly rough on the edges but already worth the $54 price tag as a spotify speaker for my room.

  • Did anyone price match at Officeworks today? Harvey Norman are selling them for $53..

    I did!

Also the prices had not changed as of lunch today.

    • I see Officeworks have dropped theres to $53 now as well
