Can this be hooked up to a google home? What would people mainly use this for - trying to get ideas.

    • +11

Plug the google home into it.
"hey google, turn your own power off"

    • Turn on/off wireless sub, fans etc. Wont work via Google home on its own but can be done via home assistant + google home.

      • +3

I have got it configured with a raspberry pi running home assistant, took a fair bit of effort though so I wouldn't recommend it if looking for a plug and go solution

        • yeah thats whats holding me back….. It looks a bit nasty duct tape to get it all working.

Can this be hooked up to a google home?

I believe it can with the use of HASS and/or IFTTT.

What would people mainly use this for - trying to get ideas.

Not sure, still trying to work this out myself.

    • @Jazattack just trying to give you an idea, I am going to use it to replace my fish tanks light timer. Those timer sockets you can buy from the market either bulky, expensive or easy to broken…hopefully this one can replace it.

      • Great, thanks for that. Good luck!

    • I have this version and it's great. I use it to turn on my espresso machine and grinder from bed.

We bought a Belkin WeMo for $60 AUD at work and the (profanity) thing didn't even work.

      • That sounds awesome, mind sharing the machine you bought? My 'pod' machine is definitely due for an upgrade lol

        • YMMV, but I will always recommend a stripped down commercial machine over "prosumer" Breville slops. Aside from overall build quality, when a part fails in a commercial machine, you swap out a $200 pump and she's all good. When a Breville fails, within reason, just throw the thing in the bin and buy a new one.

The Rancilio Silvia is the entry level starting point IF YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING. I know what I'm doing and I still wasn't game to try it. Until the latest model, it didn't have a tank sensor so if you left it on all day, the boiler would cook off, run dry, and then explode. It also is a single boiler without a heat exchanger, so that means you have to wait 30 seconds between pulling a shot and then frothing a milk. If you ever have guests over, it's a bit of a pain.

Personally, I went Expobar. It's a single boiler with a heat exchanger, so the steam and handle are both always ready to go. They've got a pre-infuse head that most people buy Expobar for.

If you're in Melbourne I got mine from Coffee-a-roma in Camberwell. Local stock, not grey imports. Surprisingly the cheapest even though they're the most well known. Only way you'll get it cheaper is a few dodgy grey import sites and I was happy to pay the full amount.

      • my coffee machine turns itself on at a time I set :)

        No need for a timer!

        • It depends if I feel like making one at home or having one when I get to work. It's easier for me to just turn it on ad hoc, but we use the WeMo at work with a timer because it's ALWAYS in use and can be remotely switched off on public holidays etc.

        • @taitems: Each to their own, mine turns on, warms up and then will timeout and go to sleep again if I don't make a coffee in time. The pro of doing this, is its fast startup time later on for me as its still warmish.

and I do make a coffee at home every day, so works.

  • I use it with the Xiaomi gateway. I need more to control my Christmas lights

ZigBee Version for this socket is better than this ?

    • I don't know, is it?

    • In my opinion yes. I have the wifi one. Zigbee can measure load, and apparently uses less idle power, and I imagine it would be quicker, though not my much compared to direct LAN access

    • +1

I have the non ZigBee and other than on/off through wifi I didn't find any use. Read somewhere the ZigBee can track power consumption etc. The plus side with this is it doesn't require gateway.

  • anyone have trouble using paypal on gearbest? like it automatically refunds?

    • +1

I have no problem with Paypal on gearbest with using my Visa.

  • +4

Can the GB rep also do a deal on the ZigBee version please?

    • What's the difference?

      • +3

This one uses WiFi to communicate, the other one ZigBee.

The ZigBee one needs the Home Gateway to work, but is likely more energy efficient and should work as a ZigBee range extender for other ZigBee items.

The ZigBee version also works as a power meter to monitor power usage of connected devices.

        • so the zigbee ones will work with the security system gateway yeah?

        • Can you still use this one with the gateway via the Mi Home app? For example, I can turn on/off yeelights with the zigbee motion detector via the gateway; can I do the same with the wifi socket?

        • +1

          @nix1016:

Yes, they are both the same, except this one connects to the Gateway via your wireless network, and the Zigbee version connects directly to the Gateway itself.

        • @Lorindor: I see, thanks!

    • Im also after a few ZigBee versions.

    • Yep, would like a deal on the Zigbee version!

  • +3

Lol, this was my code I requested from Gearbest rep… I never posted it because there were heaps of other codes others already had posted :P

    • +1

code with your name in it lol

    • Funny, I asked for a code a few days ago too :)

    • Just ordered one with YOUR code, not sure if I need one. lol thanks anyway.

  • Sorry for the newb question but can I plug my Xmas lights into this and control them via an app?

    • yeah, you can control those via the Mi Home app, as well as set timers, etc.

      • Thanks!

  • I want the ZigBee version as well.

  • +2

If you have a Xiao Mi Gateway
Strongly suggest to get the Zigbee version instead

However, if you simply needs automation rules
This Wifi Socket can hook up with Home Assistant

These are great for plugging a kettle into and when you’re a few mins away from home, turn it on to boil your water for your cup of tea or coffee.

    • +4

Why not just wait a few minutes when you get home?

      • So it’s ready to pour once I walk in.

        • You actually have this set up?

        • @Lorindor: Yup. Fill the kettle, flick it on and ready to go for when I'm on my way home to spend time with my kids instead of waiting for a kettle of water to boil.

        • @Slave1:

You can't be serious right now, you know you can just turn it on and go and do your thing?

        • @Lorindor:

          I am and I know. :)

    • +1

I think most kettle does have a toggle to start boiling water?
Unless you toggle it on before you leave your home (with the wifi socket in power off mode)
Then you can remotely turn on the socket to start boiling water

In saying that, I do prefer to get a instant boiler
just press the button and hot water boiled and come out instantly (within 3 seconds)
In the Xiao Mi Eco system
One of the manufacturer has just release their new Smart Hot Water Dispenser

I have just ordered one, will see how it goes and provide some reviews later on :)

Hey guys, sorry for hijacking this thread but how are u guys able to get GB to do a deal for an item? I tried but they told me no sorry :(
I keep trying to get a Xiaomi Mi Band 2 without any success. Cheers

    • It means the profit for Xiaomi Mi Band 2 is very tiny - make no room to discount……….

    • Who did you ask?

      • Hi, I tried asking the customer support via chat. Tried by raising a ticket too. No luck. Really wished I could be better at negotiating like the rest of u guys.

        • those guys cant do the deals.

you need to ask the ozbargain GearBest rep

is this genuine xiaomi? As its not listed in the title I wouldn't want to buy a Chinese knock off

  • +3

    Expired

  • I bought one of these and received it the other day. Can’t seem to get it going does it not have an English iPhone app?

    • It does work in English iPhone
but you will have to set the locale / server to Mainland China
From my memory, it doesn't work with Singapore (or other countries) server

      • This is what I also found.. had to put locale / server to China.
Most things are English but there is still some Chinese writing… have to Google to find what some of the buttons mean. Pretty easy to find and figure out.

    • I’ve been able to set up the app, but the actual plug won’t accept any thing being put into it, like it hasn’t been cut out

  • zigbee version please rep?

  • ZigBee version please please GB

  • Only issue is there is no gap between it and the switch, has anyone found a better solution for this?

  • Zigbee version pleeeeze GB rep??

  • +2

Man you could have posted after I finished work. Missed the deal. :(

    • I chk ozbargain from work

      • +1

        • ditto

  • Neeeeed more codeeeee pls!

  • New code pls GB rep.

  • Does the phone need to be connected to the same wifi next work to control it? Can I turn things on/off away from home, with my phone on 4g?

    • 4g via app

      • great, that can definitely be useful then. I have a Xiaomi robotic vacuum, and it won't let me control it unless we are on the same network

Would be good for turning lights on/off, when away on holidays

        • doesnt sound right - i also have the vacuum but can control it via mobile network

        • @dt123456:

…Might only be the remote control function of the vacuum. Don't use this much anyway, I guess…

      • Can I control it from another country?
