  • Don't you need a Chinese SIM Card to activate this dashcam?

    • A dash cam is not something that you need to "activate" (unless activation means plugging it into the charging socket). Besides, I don't understand what could a dash cam have to do with a sim card.

      • The dashcam had a set up mode that couldn't be bypassed without connecting it via an app. Unfortunately for us early adopters, the app required a chinese phone number to set up an account. Now you can do it via email.

You still need to get the app to do the initial setup, after that, it will automatically start recording when the car starts

  • Is this any good or is it worth spending $50-100 on one of these things? Don't want it to fail when I need it most.

    • +1

tbh i'm not sure price would indicate quality. There are plenty that are garbage and very expensive.

If it were me, i'd find one with a screen, that shows the footage for 20s before turning the screen off, so you know it's working.

      Or have 2.

    • got one earlier in dec…

$35-40 does the job - videos look no worse/better than a $100-150 dashcam with sony sensor…

as someone mentioned - lacking some features like parking/g-sensor/bigger battery…
but for driving/recording idiots on the road pulling out from you/claiming your fault - does a good enough job.

  • I have lodged a dispute via Paypal with Gearbest. There's been no movement for the "shipped" product for over 2 weeks.
