  • Well if its good enough for Jennifer watson…
Good find. Let see if they're prepared for the ozbargain treatment. Probably end up pulling it.
Their regular prices are pretty good though, $5 a pop. Wonder how much the deliver is

    • Jessica Watson!

I'm concerned that 96% fat free translates to 4% fat. Might be handy though to keep a couple in the fridge in case.

      • +2

The fat content looks kind of ok to me, but the sodium levels in a some are pretty high…a couple of varieties have a whole day's sodium in a single meal! ;)

      • +1

with your healthy obsession with pepsi i think the fat content is arguably trivial

        • +1

          Hehe.

        • +1

Wow, I'm flattered, you even follow my buying habits. :P

Fortunately I don't have to post those any more as the two supermarket chains seem to have them constantly on special and there are weekly posts for supermarket specials. ;)

  • There are delivery fees?

    • Yes would like to know how much the delivery fee is too. $5 a meal seems pretty cheap.

  • I had some of those World youth day meals, they're pretty good.

You don't need to keep them in the fridge.

    • Chicken/meat that stays good for 18 months without refrigeration? Gotta be good for you.

  • +5

who really cares if Jennifer watson had them?

    • +1

      who is Jennifer watson?

  • Now that they're on Ozbargain, I don't know if this deal will survive..

Oh, and if the owners of the website see this:

    • Your order system doesn't seem to allow multiples of the same product
    • Your $49 membership doesn't specify how long it lasts
    • +1

      The $49 membership doesn't last.
This fee just pays for access to the meals.

Chicken Tikka Masala coming my way!
      wooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

  • jsut did it… lets see if it arrives!

    Thanks for the link

  • +1

Can these be delivered to 'mates' places as a joke?

  • +3

for the reps : its refrigeration .. not refridgeration

    arghh!!!

  • +1

    Is this one like

    http://www.hormelfoods.com/brands/hormel/HormelCompleats.asp…

    ?

    Yeah refridgeration lol.

  • +1

Are you quoting this in the about page?

"Due to this very innovative technology each easy meal can then be stored without the need for refrigeration for up to 18 months."

If so, it's already been fixed.

I also had no idea who Jessica Watson was, until I read that. I remember being quite satisfied with the World Youth Day meals though.

    • It's the text overlay on one of the pictures that they're referencing.

  • Unlike Lite-n-Easy, this crowd offer gluten free meals, so it will be interesting to try them out.

  • If only there was a way to register our interest and get them to deliver food to the homeless. There are many people out there on the streets who'd do anything to ge some food into their stomachs.

    • +6

Obviously this isn't supposed to be for charity, Easy Meals is probably hoping that some people will become a future customer after getting their free meal…

        • What on earth would "registering my interest" do? They want YOU to eat it as they want you to like it and order again. If they delivered to a homeless person on your behalf, what would be the point?

        • +7

Sorry buddy but that's two strikes. The first for trying to tell people how to spend their money (with no regard for other factors like time, physical ability, personal obligations) and the second for being so wrong about the maths anyway.

I applaud your concern for charity, but the definition of charity is something freely given, not the fruits of a coercive guilt-trip.

        • -3

Haha, can't even remember posting this. Must've been at the party last night smashed off my face. Apologies for not thinking all facets of the argument through. It seems like I was in a "be charitable and give everything up" mood.

Oh well. Here's to a free meal. Will order it and give it to a homeless on my way to work.

        • +5

your spelling and punctuation was impeccable for someone so smashed off their face they can't even remember typing it. and surfing ozbargain while at a party? yeah righto. it was alcohol.

        • I did indeed go through a bottle of Shiraz at the wedding I was at. Also, my spelling is impeccable regardless of my state; why wouldn't it be? I don't see why one would need thought and effort to put together a correct sentence with no spelling errors. It's all second nature to me.

Also, methinks OzBargain was the page loaded on my iPhone when I went into Safari.

        • But if you consider 3 meals a day 7 days a week at $5 a pop then the total is $105 (not that far off $100)

Although I don't think it would be healthy to anyone to eat this much processed food regardless of how much tech is in it!

      • +1

Oh if you were off your face that's something different entirely. Nobody should be expected to internet debate properly after a few!

Might have a glass myself, actually…

    • +4

And if only Easy Meals could strike a Middle East peace solution, reduce the effects of "global warming" and turn back time so I hadn't made a fool of myself at the Christmas party…

Easy Meals is a company formed to make a profit. It no doubt pays tax; tax that is then used to support the social welfare system. It also employs people, who in turn pay income tax, which supports the social welfare system.

Profit is not in itself a dirty word. And why when a person saves $70 a week "should" it be given to charity. Maybe they would like a choice, since we live in a free and democratic society, of how they could use that additional income.

Charities have a very important place in society; where Government inaction falls down, they can help people stand up again. There are many, many thousands of saint like charity and social workers around the country, as well as family, who support those who cannot, for whatever reason, support themselves. They should be applauded and recognised and named Australian of the Year instead of a sportsperson.

But… It is all a circle. If every company gave all its profits to charity, there would be no roads, no social welfare system, no police or ambulance. It is the collective use of tax on profit which allows Government to provide social services. Charities then fill in the cracks that are left.

      • -7

To tell the truth even with your perspective Daabido I only half-agree. Charity should come first of all from individual people concerned for their fellow man, not from the "social welfare system". It is precisely because people have grown used to the government handling everything that they don't give freely themselves. People simply say "why should I give Vinnies a blanket or a can of baked beans this winter, when my taxes are being funnelled through Centrelink to feed some druggo's addiction?"

First people need to think of giving up some of their own stuff willingly for the sake of people who have nothing, THEN we can talk about the place of distributing taxes for charitable causes.

  • lol they're going to have to hire more delivery people after it was posted on here.

    I predict it never coming.

  • +1

how does the food stay fresh for 18 months without being frozen??? Vacuum packed or something?
~$5/meal is really good if that includes delivery.

    • Yeah, sounds like vacuum packed. That plus the high amount of salt…

    • The bags are cooked inside the "pouches" (bags) and vacuum sealed.

    • +3

Due to this very innovative technology each easy meal can then be stored without the need for refrigeration

It is canned food. Plastic bag instead of a steel can for easier microwaving, but the same principle.
i.e. they seal the food in an airtight container, and cook it, killing the bacteria that cause food to go off.
The only thing innovative is the marketing.

This process was invented in 1810. Nothing new. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canning
See the "Enjoyo" or "2 minute chef" lines at the supermarket for equivalent products. ($3-$5).

You have to laugh at the "serving suggestion" photos on the box. Such promise, so little delivered.

(Wow, this is almost bitchy enough to be a restaurant review!)

      • +2

I read a restaurant review last night and you wouldn't come close. You didn't spuriously overuse adjectives like "dialect" and "crescendo", you know things which in their proper context have absolutely nothing to do with food.

I was just amazed he didn't pull out the French.

  • +1

How in the hell do I log in or become a member? Can't find that option anywhere!

  • The spelling error is at the top right of the page - the animated image ;P

  • +4

At work we considered buying this type of meal for supply to hotels/motels. A few of them want an easy meal to fulfill late night requests once restaurant/kitchen staff have gone home.

Got some samples in, the sodium levels nearly made me fall off my chair and a lamb shank in a bag on a shelf doesn't look very appetizing. I didn't try any of them and I don't think any other staff did.

YMMV, we did not evaluate the products offered here, but they are likely very similar.

  • 4,600 views. I wonder if they can cope with the massive influx of orders from OzBargainers!

    • +3

Wow, so do they dispense cold water, hot water, and…SPAM??? :p

    • +1

Does your water cooler dispense meals?

  • Do we need to add water to the shanks to bring them back to life?

    • +3

      Yeah, holy water! :p

  • has anyone received their food yet?

  • +1

    • Interesting that a suburb of Logan City was named Red Earth in Malay/Indonesian. A search couldn't find an historical origin for the name.

  • got my confirmation email too. noticed that they have updated there "where did you hear about us" one of the options is ozbargain. So they have found out where all the influx of requests came from.

    • Any half decent web admin would see where incoming clicks are coming from (eg Google, The Australian, World Youth Day). What that option is really there for is to see how many honest people there are. =P

      • In this case it was obvious, but not always. If I cut and paste the link into the location bar, there will be no referer. Similarly if somebody sends out email with a link to their website.

Also if somebody mentions them in their blog, then you get some blog's URL as the referer which doesn't say much about where the person originally got the tip.

WooHoo now i dont have to eat roadkill for dinner!

    • At least it will store better than roadkill. :)

    • WooHoo now i dont have to eat roadkill for dinner!

      • Who says you're not?

But at least this roadkill is washed, cooked, and sealed in a plastic bag.

      Much better!

  • I got my chicken tikka masala. It wasn't too bad, quite tasty. That said, you could probably accurately describe the meal as being similar to canned soup, only the chicken was closer to 'real chicken' in size, texture and taste. As this can be cooked in boiling water as well as microwave, would consider purchasing some more, for camping trips etc.

  • Me too got Chicken Tikka Masala this morning, will try and let you guys know.
Thanks Easy Meals anyway as I am at Sydney they send the pack from QLD.
This is freebie you cannot ask for any more than that.

  • Mine came today :p Looks good. Going to save it for a 14 hour shift at work to have some food to look forward to. If good I can buy this for night shift.

  • great freebie, just ordered the vegetarian one, hope it tastes as good as it sounds!

  • Got my 'thai green curry'. Tried to eat it, apart from it smelling like dog food, it didn't taste right at all.

  • Received mine. Haven't tried but + for honouring their offer (especially after 6k clicks!)

  • Received my beef bourguignon today, will probably try within the next few days.

  • Received mine today (on a Saturday) - weird!? Looks ok. Will try it out sometime this week :)

  • Received my Chicken Korma. To be honest it just tasted like canned soup with more meat pieces in a fancy packaging. I was hoping it would replace my McCain frozen dinners.

  • +1

Mmmmm, I had the Thai Green Basil chicken. I was under the impression that there would be rice too, but there wasn't. Oh well, still tasted damned good.

I appreciated that they actually sent me the sample out, so I'm gonna see if I can get a few delivered without committing to a regular delivery. Would be good to keep a few in the cupboard handy for lunch on those "rainy days" (translation: those days i'm too lazy to make lunch.)

Thanks to Fashionista78 for posting the deal up! :)

  • chili con carne arrived today.
    eating now, surprisingly decent.

  • got mine the other day, beef stroganoff. it was actually pretty good considering. it arrived via australia post in a parcel/box, that long life type food that it is ok to not be refrigerated.

good find! i'll remember easy meals when I'm 90 years old and can no longer cook for myself !

  • -2

got my chicken tikka masala. took one fork full and threw it out, I wasn't expecting much but this was absolutely disgusting.
