      is this seller okay?

I think it's just mild influenza.

      • 😅

      • I think it's just mild influenza.

        One of your best.

    • They gave me a bogus tracking number!

      • +2

I ordered one of these cams from them a couple months ago, it never arrived. However they did refund me after several emails.

        • I ordered a Xiaomi Temp. Monitor and selected priority shipping (5-8). It has been over 2 weeks and no sign of good. Tracking showing no information.

    • +2

Only pay via Paypal so if it never turns up you get your money back via Paypal

      • Will do.

    • +1

Keep away, this seller is a rip off, bought a car wireless charger for my phone, it came after over a month in a poor packaging, box was squashed and the item broken, they refused to refund, they wanted item posted back. Item cost $31.28, and registered postage cost $23. I lodged a claim with Paypal to make sure I got the postage cost back, now I will have to wait to get a refund on the broken item. Will never buy anything from them again.

  • Just curious what do people use this for and where do they put it?

    • +42

I think people usually put it in the Airbnb bedroom.

    • +1

it's an awkward shape and it rotates… but use your imagination…

      • +1

        doesn't vibrates

    • +9

I am currently sharing house with a thief who had stolen my iPhone charger :( and I am going to put this in my bedroom.

I want to catch that b***** and kick her out

And I would also like to test my fit bit which always shows that I had a good deep sleep only for 4-5hours every night and wanted to see what I was doing in the remaining 3-4 hours. Will see the stats by fitbit and watch video when I wasn't in a deep sleep. 😃

      • +10

So you're going to watch yourself sleeping to determine if a device you own is accurate when it informs you that you had a good sleep.

        • +11

But who will corroborate the Dafeng's results?

          More hardware required.

        • Yessss but I'm just curious to see how accurate these fitness trackers are

        • +23

@Shopaholicdesi: then you see yourself possessed and stealing your own iPhone charger

        • @2be8: go to a doctor for a proper in home sleep study. It's covered by Medicare and will also measure your breathing for sleep apnea and your brain waves to see what phase of sleep your brain is in. Also heart rate and rhythm. They give you the device, show you how to hook it up, and you do it yourself at home one night.

        • +1

@2be8: Have you tried it? or found reviews good/bad/real/fake

        • @bteq:
what type of device do they give you?
Ive complained to my doctor for years about sleep and have never been offered this option.
          Any clues appreciated.

        • @bteq: Yeah, it was meant as a joke - not a serious suggestion. Unless a deal comes on here, that is.

        • +1

@sian72 I got a referral to a sleep specialist. Ask your GP specifically perhaps. They give you a device about the size of a Walkman with all manner of wires to attach to yourself and it. A couple for heart, a couple for brain, a finger pulse monitor, a nose tube to measure your breath, and a strap to measure your breathing chest movement. The device itself is a bit uncomfortable and makes you sleep a little worse but still worth it for one night to collect all that data. They'll analyse it and give you a report. You can do it in a sleep centre too where you sleep there but I prefer in home.

      • No way, if you kick your wife out it will cost you a lot more than a few iPhone charger. :)

      • Ok now you revealed that you are going to spy on me.. I won't enter into your room or steal anything from your room anymore.

You don't need a camera to figure out what you are doing in remaining 3-4 hours. You are in my room - sleep walking. Stop that first.

        • your house mate.
    • I stream videos for per/minute rates for people to view.

      • +1

        How much are you paying?

    • +6

In the garage. Can see if you left it open.

      • -1

        Window/Door switch can that cheaper

        • Agree but some people are visual.

        • @olliestyles: you can do both. When switch triggered send video

  • +2

thanks, anyone else use this as a nursery/baby monitor?

    • +3

I would not use one of these as a baby monitor: for that, I'd be choosing the most secure option possible and I really don't think that this will be it.

I have one of these as a security camera hooked up to a power point controller so it only turns on when the alarm is on.

      • Can I have this constantly recording? How big can this thing record?

        • It has continuous recording, but tbh I don't know whether it automatically overwrites the oldest entries or not. I think it does, but I don't recall. I've just been experimenting with it at this stage so haven't hit that.

        • Aubergine big

        • @2be8:
Thanks! If i buy this without any other xiaomi companion, will it (or can it) work?

Would you say this thing is plug&play kinda thing or fiddling is required?

        • +1

          @tempura:

          Yes.
Need the Mihome app. Wifi network.
          Its Plug n play.

      • +1

Most secure option possible? Who's gonna bother watching your baby sleeping…

        • These cameras have two way audio. Probably worth paying attention to that.

          https://boingboing.net/2016/01/19/griefer-hacks-baby-monitor…

        • +5

There are some sick puppies out there…

        • @2be8:

          different camera model

          probably unsecured

        • It not just baby watching that you need to worry about. Baby wakes up anytime at 1am. .. 3am etc for feeding. And your partner could be half naked feeding without knowing some one watching with lack of sleep.

        • @furythree:
          (a) the point wasn't that it was specific to the camera, but rather that on a camera with two-way audio you have more to think about than just 'watching your baby sleeping'
          (b) cloud-connected cameras are only ever one compromise away from being unsecured; this is a cloud-connected camera. Unless you're planning on watching you baby sleep remotely, then it is prudent to avoid cloud-connected equipment for it.

        • +2

@boomramada: surely all perverts would be fully rested before watching you on camera?

    • I use one of the cheaper Xiaofang cameras as a baby monitor (the one that doesn't move) and it's great.

    • +1

I use the Dafang version for this. Works very well, probably better quality than $300 baby cams.

      • Another baby monitor here. My only gripe is my old wall mounted Android tablet can't be upgraded to support the Mi Home app. Hoping the Dafang camera gets the Fanghacks soon so I can use another app.

  • Thanks OP
Bought one for 22.60 (paid with PayPal in USD)

  • Just received my Xiaofang which is the younger brother of this and it's fantastic. The wide angle is incredible nearly does the whole room.

    • How do you plug it in?

      • +1

Only requires micro usb power. 5v 1a. You can power it with battery banks and such.

  • US $18.85 / AU $26.07
Is there a coupon needed to apply?

    • It still shows US $16.83/ AU $23.27 to me. Where are you located?

      • Ah, you are right. Was on VPN.

        • Which one and how is it?

        • @rob359: flter, pretty decent.

Can this record to a NAS?
My Google game is weak, tonight

    • +1

I seem to recall seeing the option in the interface, but never being able to get it working.
The xiaofang is a better option unless you really want to be able to rotate etc because (when modded) it is much more flexible (including recording to a NAS that supports NFS).

      • Thanks, I might hold off in that case :)

  • It's not allowing me to select free shipping, the option is greyed out on checkout

    • Free shipping available for me if only 1 selected.
If I try to buy 2 of them, the free shipping option is greyed out

    • same here I chose Qty 1 and still no free del option, what am I doing wrong :( does it only work on desktop?

I think we should change the domain name to xiaomibargain instead of ozbargain

    • +2
      1. Register domain
      2. Park it
      3. ???
      4. Profit!
  • Video frame rate = 15 (seems a bit low)
Language = Simplified Chinese (will have to be extremely mega narly simplified Chinese for me to understand it)

Anyone know if this can stream to a Hikvision NVR ?

  • why xiaofang more expensive than dafang in the same website and both are 50% off?

    • I bought a xiaofang from the same website few weeks ago
It was listed at ~AUD16 that time
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/344858

    • Xiaofang can be hacked to work locally, without going via Chinese server or their app.
      So much better.

      • Hacked or using gateway?

        • No gateway. You enable an RTSP server.

          https://github.com/samtap/fang-hacks

Work is in progress hacking the Dafang:

          https://github.com/samtap/fang-hacks/issues/234

        • @manic:
I read somewhere that the newer Xiaofang models with MAC addresses starting with 34 can't be firmware hacked. Is this still the case?

        • @JLai:
Not true. I got mine working. Took a bit of fiddling as the firmware had changed somewhere.

        • @manic:
Sweet. Sorry, I should have said the hacked firmware wasn't working.
          I read it here.

        • +2

@JLai: I can confirm that XaioFang with 34 Mac address works with the hack
just be sure NOT to upgrade to the latest firmware
Use the firmware that come out of the box and all working fine!

        • @kungbernard:
          Rad!
          Thanks for the clarification peeps.

  • nice deal for this type of camera. would have been better if you can integrate with home assistant.

  • +3

I bought the last one. After seeing that there were only Chinese instructions, I set it aside. Anyone know if there are English instructions available? Thanks 😄

    • +1

      use the google translator app

      • Does that mean I'd need to type in a bunch of Chinese characters? 😳

        • It can translate images. Just use your phones camera to translate

    • I read somewhere that English version is available on Android devices

      • Good grief! Thanks

  • anybody know which xiaomi ip camera has 30fps video recording?

    • +2

30 feet per second is much faster than I've ever seen from one of these cheap cameras. It's roughly equivalent to 33,000 km/h.

      • Better than a Buggati…😅

      • Definitely a new dad.

    • You can set the frame rate if you mod the Xiaofang. Would imagine it'd do 30fps.

      • unmodded. the mijia does 20fps apparently.

  • Why there's delivery fee? I thougth on that price would be delivered?

    • All good mate. You need to order seperate if you want to buy two or more to get free shipping. Otherwise, youll have to pay $30 for shipping. Thanks.

  • Do I need a Xiaomi home gateway product to use these or the Xiaofang versions?

Also for using as a security camera does it require constant power source or have any battery backup?

    Thanks.

    • +1

No Gateway just the Xiaomi app
Needs a constant powersource but a simple 5v phone charger would do.
