  • Hmm is this secure? My brother had a Foscam camera that started to rotate on its own.

    • I've not got this model but I have investigated the Xiaofang and would think it very similar. That model is not very secure - by default it is a 'cloud-enabled' device so some people worry that it's sending data back to China. It also uses an old version of 'wpa_supplicant' to control wifi connectivity (v.8) so hasn't been patched against any wifi vulnerabilities in around 8 years!

That having been said I doubt many of the cheaper IP cameras have uptodate patches so they're probably all a little insecure and you'd be fooling yourself to think otherwie. My main concern with any such device would be that once a toolset comes out to exploit the recent KRACK vulnerability, any kiddie out there will be able to bounce your camera on to their own network and start looking at your feed (or attempting to, based on whatever other security it has in place).

  • Anyone have any issues with the original xiaofang cam? When I plug my cam in, it works for probably half a day and then doesn't connect at all. I need to turn the power on and off. Anyone have these issues, could it be my router settings?

    • Mine is not initialising at all. Depending on the region I choose in the mihome app I manage to install it, but when I tap it it gives an error. Have searched online extensively, lots of people with the same problem.

If the rep is watching this, and deals on the Xiaofang?

ditto waiting for xiaofang + free shipping

  • this is a really really good camera at this price. Buy it! I bought it before

  • Can you hook this up to NAS storage?

    • This suggests the Xiaofang one is capable of recording to NAS.

So in a security sense this has more vulnerabilities and data can go China but some people are more worried about a Google home? Same as safety conscious folk bombard a Xiaomi powerboard post with warnings but no other posts with non-Australian approved devices which carry the same risks.

    Where are our alarmists?

  • Anyone tried this with a powerbank and record to sd without being connected to a network?

  • hopefully the xiaohacks work on this soon :) would be awesome to record via rtsp

    • wonder if you'll still be able to pan and tilt with the hack

Why does it show AUD $ 15.98 for shipping with no tracking. Total order comes to - AUD $ 39.25

    Subtotal( 1 item ):AUD $ 23.27
    (+) Shipping Charges:AUD $ 15.98

I only have 1 item in cart and it doesn't show free shipping option.
$ 16 is a rip off for shipping to Melbourne. This is NO DEAL.

    • Same issue here… there is an option which suggested 'Expedited Express' which is grayed out

      • Yep same here

Still not fixed… showing inflated shipping price ;-/

  • Anyone know if you can use the motion detection from the camera to trigger any other xiaomi products? eg. trigger Yeelight?

  • +1

It says total order is $42.05 with postal shipping no tracking number being $15.98.

And price for the cam is $26.07.
Is there some sort of code that I need to put in or do I change the country?

    • I think the deal must be expired.

  • can anyone confirm if it supports recording to "microSD" and maximum capacity, thanks
