Kogan Mobile: 23GB/Month 1 Year Prepaid Plan $270 ($22.19/Month) - Previously $315 ($25.90/Month) - 14.3% off Via Gift Cards

1350

For anyone looking for a good value prepaid plan, thanks to theomelette you can now get Kogan gift cards for 15% off, then use them to buy Kogan Mobile's $315 23GB/mth plan.

Due to the $50 and $100 denominations of Kogan's gift cards, I personally bought $300 worth of gift cards for $255 and paid a full $15, hence the $270 price tag. If you usually buy stuff from Kogan, you will be paying $267, which works out to be $22.00/mth.

16GB, 6GB and 4GB plans also available at an additional 15% off:

If these guys threw in some international minutes as well, they would be unmatched!

I just ported across from TPG (also Vodafone network) and was amazed by the call quality and data speeds for Kogan. Calls on TPG's Vodafone network used to be super choppy, now that's no longer the case.

      • +1

I ported from Telstra to Kogan and found it to be sub-par. Data would drop off or slow dramatically until a better signal is found.

        • Reception quality might depend on where you are. I trialled it using Kogan's free 16GB plan and found reception in Sydney's north shore, city and north west to be decent. My work phone's on Telstra and I found them to be on par though my work phone regularly shows full reception, whilst Kogan's regularly 2-3 bars out of 5.

        • @Innamura: I don't make that many calls so I can't really comment. But I have noticed reception is down compared to Telstra. Currently 2/5 bars in Martin Place Sydney. Travelling from the inner west via train, if I'm streaming video it always drops out at Macdonaldtown, where it didn't while I was with Telstra. Even browsing FB can be difficult.

        • +2

@gobsmax: High density of Vodafone users in the inner west given the good value plans on third party sellers perhaps. Good point gobsmax, so Kogan really depends on your use case. There's probably a bit of Stockholm syndrome moving across from TPG :).

        • +4

@gobsmax: optus and virgin mobile also drop out on that area while im on the train. I think telstra is the only one that doesnt

        • @Jonski: interesting point, I will check Telstra's reception when I pass through today.

        • +1

          @Jonski:

I used to be with vaya (optus) now kogan.
data speeds may be slightly up on kogan but not sure if thats just regular 4g upgrades that have been happening all over.

However what sucks with kogan is dropouts/lag.
data will just drop to zero for a few seconds and that makes it impossible to do gaming.

since joining kogan have increased their data caps for free twice - so im not sure if thats going to help with the dropouts/lag.

I would much rather a slower but more reliable connection.

        • well you ported from the most expensive to one of the least expensive so i don't doubt your story, though i wouldn't say it makes kogan sub par, with par being the word used in place of average.

are you sure that your phone supported all the vodafone frequencies though? it may have been missing a key one.

        • @gobsmax:
I've been on both Telstra and Voda. Both suck at Macdonaldtown.

    • I found the excess bundling to be the cause of price bloat on data plans. I guess it's harder to discount international calls?

    • and roaming, at least to support receiving texts OS

Im with Kogan - they do the job I dont love the service but they are honestly better value then anyone else

So can I purchase $150 worth of Kogan Vouchers and use this for the 2GB plan (which is currently $152.10)

    • +3

Yes, all you need to do is add the credit to your Kogan.com account, then purchase the 2GB plan, paying the additional $2.10 using credit card or paypal.

    • +1

      OK.

  • +1

    What about the 2gb plan?

    • +3

Yes, all you need to do is add the $150 credit to your Kogan.com account, then purchase the 2GB plan, paying the additional $2.10 using credit card or paypal.

      • Do you know if gift cards can be used to "recharge" existing customers? Both my parents are on 90 day plans that are expiring soon and I'd like to see if purchasing these gift cards is a good idea.

        Thank you.

        • The gift cards are added to your kogan.com account as credit (cash) which can be used to purchase any of the prepaid plans.

Once you have bought a plan, Kogan provides you with a voucher code which can be uses to "recharge" existing customers.

Kogan plans don't stack so just make sure you recharge after your existing 90-day plan has expired otherwise you lose any remaining credit on the 90-day plan. Kogan says that existing customers can receive calls and SMSes up to 90 days after their plan expires. obviously they won't be able to make outgoing calls or use 4G.

  • +3

Nice! I was supposed to recharge my parents kogan mobile phone half a week ago, today it expires.

The one time i'm glad i procrastinated.

I have bought $11.99 for $50 off $120 kogan voucher on ebay. I am thinking to sign up 2Gb mobile plan for $152, Should I buy a $100 value kogan gift card, Can I combine these two voucher & gift card which workout the net payment of $97 for $152 plan.

    • +1

Hi, "I have bought $11.99 for $50 off $120 kogan voucher on ebay" did you pay $12 for a $50 Kogan voucher? if so, can we still get the same deal?

In answer to your question, if you have $50 worth of credit in your Kogan.com account, all you need to do is buy the $100 voucher for $85 and you will be paying $97 + $2 ($99) for the 2GB plan.

    • I just worked this out, could have saved myself an extra $30. Thanks Angelbaby.

      • +1

cool, so we can combine voucher & gift card together for mobile plan, right? thanks!

        • I think so, i didn't check but gift cards get applied as money and the voucher appears to be applied as a separate line item.

        • @Innamura and @angelbaby: Another question… When I looked at the item description on eBay, it said it would be sent as 2 voucher codes. Can you use 2 voucher codes for the one transaction?
This is the item I was looking at: https://m.ebay.com.au/itm/Kogan-50-Off-120-Spend-Voucher-eVo…

        • +4

          @Mattystein:
          yes, you can.
Your eVouchers are below - they can be used together to get $50 off your order.

        • @angelbaby: Perfect. Thanks angelbaby.

        • @angelbaby: do you know if multiple lots of those eVouchers can be used?

          E.g. buy 2 x $50 off $120 - buy Kogan 23GB 365 day plan @ $315, so $315 - $100 voucher discount = $215 payable.

          Then maybe get $200 worth of giftcard @ 15% off = $170

          Net effect $13.99 + 13.99 + 170 + 15 = $212.98

          Sounds like a plan?

        • +1

          @sky blu:
to be honesst, I don't know whether we can combine 2x$50 off $120, since they sent two vouchers of $20+$30 off $120, I would assume we can use multiple vouchers in one transaction.
Therefore, I am planning to sign up the Large plan i.e $254-$50-$30 (15% discount gift card) + $11.99= $186 for the value of $254.

        • @angelbaby: Oh that's what I am going for, too. Large 16GB would be enough for me.

I have contacted the seller to clarify. I'll get back to you on this :)

        • @angelbaby: So (2) sellers gave a brief answer "no" (to buying multiple $50 off $120 vouchers) without giving any proper explanation, which I find very odd since the $50 discount is already made of 'multiple vouchers' (one lot $20 and $30).

Anyway, for our case the safest approach is 1x $50 off $120 voucher and 2x $100 giftcards.

The net effect for me is $187.3 ($13 voucher on eBay) so works out to be $15.61/ month. Pretty sweet!

        • @angelbaby: Okay so apparently multiple eVouchers would not work because the system only allows one of each voucher denomination.

        • @sky blu:

I bought 5 x $50 vouchers on eBay and they arrived as separate vouchers. You can add each individual voucher to your account on the Kogan website then when you purchase the phone voucher it automatically loads the vouchers and you just pay the difference.

My Large (16GB) plan cost me $216.80 which saved me almost $60 from last year (with double the data). Very happy!

        • @namenotspecified: How do you actually add the voucher to your account? I thought only gift cards let you do that. Vouchers are supposed to be used at checkout?

      • any chance you could explain ? not sure where or what the $11.99 for $50 off is ?

      • Mind sharing the steps to do it? My brain's a bit on holiday mode lately. All I could understand is pay up $11.99 for a $50 off $120 voucher which I can then use to buy $100 Kogan Voucher.

  • If I'm already on a 12 month plan and buy this, will it extend my current plan by 12 months or overwrite my current plan?

    • Good question, probably one for Kogan mobile support. I think their plans don't stack but please let us know if find out they do.

    • +5

no wont extend but overwrite ie you lost the remaining and start 12 m again

      • Ok thanks!

    • +1

I emailed Kogan as my current one expires in February. They told me I can buy it now and activate in Feb..

  • I'm using this as my main internet 3 hrs out of Brisbane. Seems to do good as long as there is an Optus tower to roam to.

  • +1

    Whats a $23GB/Month ? :P

    • Ha.. good catch. I was probably thinking $22.9/mth for 23GB.

  • OP where are these Kogan gift cards and where/how do I buy them? Link please? I don't understand why you'd buy gift cards then pay for it via gift cards, am I missing something? Also is Kogan no contract? Any info would be appreciated.

    • Isn't it clear enough it was written in the post?

you can now get Kogan gift cards for 15% off, then use them to buy Kogan Mobile's $315 23GB/mth plan.

    • +1

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/350140

Here's the OzBargain node with the link provided. You purchase via PayPal/eBay

  • If I buy today when is the lastest I’ll be able to use/activate the voucher code ?

    • +2

Kogan's sale on prepaid plans run through till 31st Jan. After that, you have till 28th Feb 2018 to activate the voucher.

  • +3

Dont forget, you can save another 5% on ebay gift cards using e-gift cards from woolworths ($250 worth), and use those to buy the kogan gift cards! (another $12.5)!
Effectively $257.5 for this plan! (Confirmed can buy gift cards with ebay gift cards)

    • +2

Where do you buy these from? How does it work?

Buy 5% discounted eBay e-gift card from Woolies online?

Then use those e-gift cards on eBay to buy the 15% off Kogan deal?

      • I second this, I've had a look, can't find where to buy these eBay gift cards from Woolworths.

  • has anyone used the dominos $30 off $120 credit with this + gift cards?

    • +1

Yes I did it, the $30 and $20 ($50) off Kogan orders of $120 vouchers works with this and the gift cards.

  • +1

How long does it take to receive the email? Anyone got it yet?

    • Took 10 mins to receive mine.

    • I've been waiting over two hours now..

      • I bought mine an hour ago still no email. Lucky I bought just one to try, was considering getting all 3 of them in one go

        • Probably OZ'd lol.

          I ordered a $100 one about 3 hours ago…no email as yet.

        • @willister: well its linked to the official paypal site and people have got the cards before, I'm in no rush but I'll probably just keep this one and pay the rest of the $300 in full (this uneasiness vs paying a bit more money isn't worth it haha)

        • @willister: I just checked my PayPal recipt and it sent the money to [email protected] so its a legit PayPal address

        • @oneauthority: Still nothing here as well… Ordered at noon
I assume they have had much more demand than usual (expected) haha
          She'll be right

        • @Ricky83: came through about 630 pm all the ones I ordered

      • Ended up getting the email vouchers 5.5 hours later..

  • I have one Optus and one kogan on same phone. Kogan has very bad coverage compared to Optus.
Travelled to bruny island and some rural areas in Tas and Kogan gives you zero reception and occasional reception in melbourne west area (Truganina etc). Optus gives me full coverage compared to that. Wouldn't recommend.

    • Vodafone (i.e. the network that Kogan utilises) coverage in captial cities and regional centres in pretty good, but it's quite poor in rural areas. Coverage around Tarneit also looks pretty crap from the coverage maps

  • Anyone confirm if this will work?

buy $250 worth of gift cards @ 15% off ($212.50)
    buy a '$50 off $120 spend' e-voucher - https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/192396052050 ($13.99)
stack the e-voucher & gift cards, and pay remaining $15.10 via PayPal/Credit card etc.

    total cost works out to $241.59 ($212.50 + $13.99 + $15.10)

  • Anyone use Kogan in NQ? Worried about possible crap reception

  • Woolies catalogue from 20th December there is a 10% $100 kogan gift card

  • Can Kogan accept more than one voucher in checkout? Like $100 + $50 voucher to purchase the 2GB plan. Just asking as some online stores don't allow more than one - I think the old Dick Smith Online was one such store.

    • +2

You add the gift card balance to your account before you do your order and more then one gift card can be added. It won't be a problem

  • I am confused at the relationship between Kogan.com and KoganMobile.com with regards to this transaction. I see them as separate sites?

If I buy the vouchers for Kogan.com they can be used from Kogan.com to pay for services on KoganMobile.com?

Can I use one Kogan account to buy 365 plans for two Kogan Mobile services?

Hopefully, they're just activation codes I can use on any KM account.

    Thanks for any help.

    • Why so many questions? Did you even try to checkout?

    • +1

It's the same company so they will accept the vouchers.
Not sure about multiple mobile services linked to the same account though.

  • +1

Just confirming. If i were to purchase a prepaid voucher before 31/12/2017 (sale date), i have until 28/2/2018 to activate the plan (goes for 365 days) ?

  • Order mine around 11:30am still no email or voucher

  • I can vouch for Kogan reliability and coverage; they are so so much better than Optus. I am so extremely duper supa disappointed with Optus.

  • Damn Kogan and their K codes? I made purchased the discount gift cards, redeemed the gift cards, and then purchased a KoganMobile vouhcer (mostly with the gift card credit). The extra few dollars went onto credit card and the transaction won't be completed until I enter the K-code. Unfortunately, it's not visible on my CC transaction statement and even CC company hasn't got it as yet. They indicated it would become visible when Kogan took the money, which seems a little chicken-and-egg to me. Does this happen with all Kogan credit card transactions now? They say it can take up to 10 days to process but I'm sure Kogan will get their money as quickly as they can.

    • Ok, tried another CC (Visa) for another order and K-code available immediately in online banking. Must be a delay caused by 28 Degrees Card.

      • 28 Degrees Card exposed the voucher code after three days. Better late than never :-) I suggest not using them in the future if Kogan K-codes are involved.

  • $100 voucher is gone. only $50 one left. How many voucher code does Kogan allows to stack up?

    • +1

you can redeem as many as you want. The vouchers are going into your kogan account and you can spend them all together. I just bought 4 $50 and add up to $200 since the $100 ebay vouchers are all gone.

      • thanks mate.

  • Out of $100 vouchers, and you can't buy more than 5 at a time - FYI

  • If I understand it correctly, from the above posts, a voucher can be purchased now and then activated at a later date to avoid overwritting my current 365 day plan.

Does anydone have a definitive answer on this?

    • Yes, I believe (i.e. I am pretty sure) the 365 Day Mobile Vouchers are just activation codes that must be used (before Jan/Feb some time - it's on the voucher). Our plans finish near the end of December, so I will just wait until then, the day they are about to finish (or the day later) and then apply the new voucher activation codes.

      • Thanks for the info.
