      • I admit I'm recovering from being sick and my explanations are anything but perfect or bullet proof, I just had the strong urge from experience to voice my own concern amongst everyone elses.

3 people have PM'd me so far to explain further, so I guess I'll just take direction from there.

        • You are definitely correct that I over-stepped on the outcome for the customer, If you're just there to save money and are happy to jump ship at any time then theres really no problem.
I was pointing my comment more towards the people wanting a stable host not wanting to worry about having to swap in the future, people that are less worried about several other people on the same line.

Another sidenote: Dynamic IP inclusion is listed as a feature above? heh

    • +3

I tend to ignore any sweeping generalisations on the internet. People's mileage will vary depending on their specific situation and requirements. Also a massive warning is really not appropriate as it's not like people are committing to any long term contracts. There's no entry/exit fees to people can easily get out if it doesn't suite their needs.

Let's face it, people would be very foolish signing up with Mungi with the expectation that it will be as good as a top tier provider. Of course it won't but I like the fact that they offer a cheap(er) service for those who may be happy with a lower service. As for their business model etc. Who cares!! We're not here to tell them how to run their business. If they go into liquidation etc then jump ship. What's the big deal.

      • I agree for the most part but re: not caring about their business model. Personally I think you should be very attentive to their business model. If we applied the same thing to something like buying/renting a car that is advertised as very reliable and can speed all the way to 250km, but then getting an unreliable car that cant go past 50km most the time.

The worst part? This actually gets worse over time, not better.

        • Not the same. Buying a lemon you're stuck with is different from buying a service you can opt out of anytime. Also we don't know their underlying finances and business objectives to pass judgement on what they're doing at face value. By that logic lets boycott Amazon (retail) and Uber who make no profit.

        • @gimme: I think you're jumping in here without all the information this (entire) thread has already uncovered. We know their practices for the most part.

But, we'll leave it there, as someone in the industry and someone sad over the NBN outcome here, I just wanted to throw caution to the wind with all the others in here doing the same, it seems the genuine people wanting to understand or get deeeper details have all PM'd anyway.

I'm a little under the weather if I didn't say already.

        • Oh, so we should gravitate to the "quality" providers like Telstra NBN hey, with their false promises and "premium pricing" such as: "Telstra has agreed to offer remedies to around 42,000 customers for promoting and offering some of its National Broadband Network (NBN) speed plans as being capable of delivering specified maximum speeds, when those maximum speeds could not be achieved in real-world conditions"

Nothing, I repeat nothing related to NBN service delivery to the average Joe is guaranteed in this sub par NBN service market. Too many variables. Not at any price point. Perhaps a commercial level guarantee and commensurate pricing might get you some certainty. It's not all about business.

I'll take a punt and move on to Mungi thanks for a go, as much as I have stuck with MyRepublic since their Australian inception and the contract will expire March 2018. I'd like to try an ISP without a lock in contract (if that makes me a "lower class" subscriber - so be it). After all I am after a bargain on here (with a low cost risk exposure as a consumer), even if that means a lowering of expectation.

        • +1

          @dfaktz:

I think it is a fair warning and you did the right thing to voice it out. But I agree with @gimme that the analogy of an unreliable car is very different. Unreliable car concerns safety and involves huge (significant) financial loss, whereas with this as a consumer you would not have too much to lose except some inconveniences to have to look for another provider.

Again, it was a fair warning, that way users here are prepared and knew ahead of what they are getting into.

  • So what happens if I sign up now but 3 months later NBN service is still not available for whatever reasons?

    • We can organise a refund for you :)

Let us know and we'll take care of the rest

      • Thank you~ Sorry to be paranoid but is there somewhere in your T&C about this? :)

        • It's inside the CIS.

But speak to us on live chat and we can send you an email as confirmation :)

        • +1

@MungiDreamIT: Thanks for the quick response, will do~~

        • @wildstone:

All good, I've already let the guys on live chat know

  • I'm in the process of giving these guys a go; hopefully will be connected in the coming weeks if all goes to plan with NBN connection to my area date on the 22nd. So far the customer service has been good so no complaints from me so far.

    • +1

Welcome to the family! Let us know if you have any questions!

  • General question for people on 100/40 NBN contracts. For those of you who have been on 100/40 Cable plans previously, do you find the experience similar or one is better than the other? I often wonder if one "medium" (for lack of a better term) provides a faster/stable experience over the other even though both cap speeds at 100/40.

  • If anyone wants a referral link please PM me.

MODS: can we please add a REFERRAL link for OzB members?

  • My area (3152) is NBN ready but I still reading feedback on OZB as to who can give the highest speed for downloading with no congestion. I am with Telstra and have been enjoying super fast speed with Telstra Netgear Max modem. Anyone can share some ideas as who is the best provider in my area? Thanks.

    • Telstra

      • You mean Telstra NBN?

        • If you're happy with your service stay with it for as long as possible. Then get Telstra NBN when the time comes. There's also AussieBroadband who are cheaper and quite comparable to Telstra.

        • @gimme: thanks for the advice. Yes I am very happy with the speed since changing to landline from ADSL 2yrs ago. I don't have to deal with Telstra ADSL team which is horrendous and has taken me for a ride for 4yrs with super slow speed and also frequent drop line and when I call to complain they still says my speed is ok!

        • You would actually have to ask people that live in your area — One person's experience in one location may vary substantially to yours.

Network congestion is something most POI's have, in highly varying degrees.

I would strongly suggest not signing up to any contracts — If telstra for example offers you NBN but are asking you to enter a contract, decline it and ask for a month-to-month one. Or just leave them for another provider that does provide no lock-ins, in case they massively oversell in your area and you're hit with lousy speeds and you have to leave.

        • @scrimshaw: thanks for the good advice. I will definitely do so. In fact, Telstra has called me to switch to NBN with 12nths contract. I declined, no hurry since I am having super speed internet now. Don't know about NBN but my area has only Telstra network and no others providers.

        • @SJ898:

If you have NBN you have access to (almost) all providers.

        • @gimme: thanks for letting me know. Appreciate very much.

        • @SJ898:

I say it again though, if you're happy with your service don't touch it for as long as you can. I think you have 18months before you're forced to do so.

        • [@gimme](/comment/5434388/y: thanks. Yes, I plan to stay till I am being forced to do so.

  • Will this offer be available next year?

    • Hi there

Our plans will be ongoing however our modem offer will expire at the end of the month

  • Hi rep, so how much is the modem for? $5 off for 6 months and thereafter?

  • How to check if my address is available?

  • Do you have a direct relationship with NBN, or are you using an wholesaler/aggregator such as AAPT/Vocus/Telstra?

*edit - never mind - seems you resell vocus based on the links from your website.

    • We work with Vocus to help us deliver a great customer experience.

  • Question: I have a HFC connection. Can I use my existing telstra cable modem?

    • You're welcome too, however, a few of our Telstra modem customers we're having issues with reliability. Once they upgraded, they had no issues at all :)

  • If I am on a HFC connection currently with AussieBroadband (who have been excellent but out of my price range these days), would I be able to transfer to you guys? I have been told changing to different providers if you have a HFC connection is a nightmare

    • it's a very quick job… you can xfer

      • i had to transfer from myrepublic to buzztelco before and it two weeks so a bit traumatised hahaha

        • so you've gone from MR to Buzz to ABB and now Mungi? you are doing the rounds lol

btw… you may have xfered to BUzz when they were experiencing upstream provider issues a few months back which may explain it

        • @gimme: hahahaha yea, i changed from myrepublic to buzztelco because of their crazy valued deal of $59/mth with a static ip, then due to their upstream provider issues moved to ABB, but because I use Plex etc I'm now paying $120/mth so I need to look for a more budget friendly provider once again

        • +1

          @ericshurn:
Same here but skipped MR altogether.
Will give mungi a go and move back to ABB if it turns to crap.

    • Also, on the 100/40 speeds, how much does it drop during peak hours?

      • how long is a piece of string?

        • About 50Mbps typical evening speed long :)

  • +1

I signed up with these guys in North East Adelaide about a month ago. First NBN connection on HFC. Whole process painless, communications good, had a couple of drop outs, mainly early Sunday mornings for some reason, usually fixed quickly. Done numerous speed checks all times of the day and night, never below 90 down and 33 up, usually around 93+down and 37+ up. No lock in contract a big plus for me and $69.95 a month.

  • @MungiDreamIT According to NBN co, my apartment complex will receive NBN on January 7. Does this mean I can activate this service then?

    • Yeah thats fine. If you make an order online, mention that nbn is coming soon and once nbn is ready, we'll process your order :)

      • If NBN website says Jan 7, will there be any additional wait time for Mungi?

EDIT: Also, how do I know if my router is compatible? I have a TP-Link Archer D7

        • That will be fine as a NBN router, but it won't work as a NBN modem if your infrastructure tech is based on VDSL

  • I have got a Netcomm NF10WV NBN modem router which seems to be working fine. If I upgrade to the D-link router DVA-2800, what benefit would I get?

    • Probably nothing but some RSPs require Vlan tagging so best to confirm that first and if it's required determine if your routers supports it.

      • We no longer require VLAN tagging :)

  • Hi MungiDreamIT,

If I signup for any of the following plans without any add-ons, do these plans offer PAYG voice?
    Lightning 100 ($25 Off, $69.95 per month) WAS $94.95
    Lightning 50 ($20 Off, $64.95 per month) WAS $84.95
    Lightning 25 ($15 Off, $59.95 per month) WAS $74.95
    Lightning 12 ($10 Off, $54.95 per month) WAS $64.95

    • Hi there,

We currently don't offer PAYG voice however this is in the pipe line as well as IDD plans too.

  • +1

What's the typical evening speed with your 100Mb plan?

    • Wrong question

    • Currently it's roughly 50Mbps however this will change over the next few months while we move our customers to our Layer 2 network

      • What do you mean by moving to Layer 2 network? Will it improve the speed to closer to 100Mbps?

        • -1

We're moving our customers to our new layer 2 network. I can't share anything specific at this time however this is in the works

  • I am tempted…

Any Mungi customers to comment on their process and or service?

Edit, they offer an addon: "MUNGI TURBO: Higher Performance Network With Less Congestion. This network has close to double the available bandwidth compared to our standard services. $19.95 AUD Monthly" hmmmmmmm why is extra bandwidth needs to be paid for those who have money? Shouldn't just this be default with all Australians with NBN?

    • Welcome to the real world. Merry Xmas!

    • Feel free to see our reviews from other customers at https://www.productreview.com.au/p/mungi-internet.html

Mungi Turbo is an option for customers who want a network with less congestion. It's a fair option that sets the expectation as a customer on what type of experience you will get. If you have any questions, feel free to speak to us on live chat :)

At least with us we spend more on our network with our reduced overheads compared to other budget providers.

      • I think it's unfair that the Government let companies restrict bandwidth and allow companies to make customers pay for a less congested line.

The NBN network was a fail from the start, the irony of a first world country doing so many things wrong.

        • I'll take that feedback on board, however, we believe that our customers have the option of choosing what type of experience they're looking for that is aligned to there expectations.

        • @MungiDreamIT:
To be honest I'm with you on this one. Having a lower tier (cheaper) option is good for those who may not need full speed all the time. Although people rarely see it that way - it's always a case of "why do I need to pay more for this?" Rather than "I'm glad these guys are offering a no frills cheaper option".

Also some people mistake the term 'National'BN as more of an entitlement as a taxpayer. May be it should be but not with the current business model and not the fault of RSPs

  • Vocus and Engin

You might want to think about a provider not owned by Vocus for some redundancy? ;)

    • Hi there :)

We're currently working on our layer 2 network, you may notice a few changes on our backhaul over the coming months :)

      • Out of curiosity: what's the target contention ratio with the new network?
I believe most providers networks are around 100:1 last I checked.

My brother signed up (and was connected) today; but sadly the HFC upgrade in my area says "check back for updates in Feb" - so I shouldn't sign up yet?

        • Hi there,

I can't share this yet as we're still getting a few quotes/contracts finalised. I hope to have this ready in Early Feb or Mar.

You can sign up now and if nbn is still not yet ready we can organise a refund, however, most HFC orders won't be back online for another 6-9 months.

          Cheers

      • L2 sounds promising. Please please please manage your migration well - I still have a bitter taste after the 2 week 'Buzz Telco' outage/fiasco.

        • Yeah, we have a plan on how we will be moving to this :)

Feel free to chat with us if you have any questions

  • I would have definitely signed up, but the $19.95 for Mungi Voice is a killer. Why don't you have a lower priced voice deal that only includes local and national calls? My elderly parents live with me and use the landline to call families locally and interstate. Most big telcos provide free or very low rates for including only local and national calls.

    • +1

Hi there. We're including this over the coming months while we upgrade our network

  • +1

We would love to thank our customers for joining us on this ride as we become Australia’s next challenger brand. We really hope to make a detrimental impact on the nbn market by exceeding customer expectations and offering great value plans.

    What’s coming up:
    - Layer 2 network
    - Provisioning within 5-20 minutes of order completion
    - Public Real-time Server Status and Information
    - Public CVC allocations and contention ratios
    - Addition to Mungi Voice (PAYG, Standard and IDD)
    - Changes to Mungi nbn Plans (removal of Lightning 25)
    - Introducing Mungi Mobile sim only plans
    - Expanding D-Link range to include Cobra and Taipan
    - Partnership with Mr Telco to help improve nbn connections and repairs
    - Support via SMS
    - Ability to see VoIP usage from My Mungi
    - Ability to see data usage from My Mungi
    - Huge Mungi giveaway/competition (giving away of D-Link Modems, free nbn and Nintendo Switches ;) )
    - Minor refresh of Mungi.com.au
    - Expect to see us voicing our opinions on nbn through a new nbn policy blog section
    - Introducing Mungi Email powered by DreamIT Host (free email hosting)

Once again, thank you for choosing Mungi and helping to spread our vision of fair internet for all Australians.

If you have any questions, please get in touch and we’ll be glad to help :)

    Have a great 2018.

    • +1

I thought static IP would be one of the offerings in 2018.

      • Yeah it is :)

    • Great to hear the future plans for Mungi, looking forward to join the ride. :) Just one comment, I see you are planning to remove the Lightning 25 plan. Personally I wouldn't like to see this plan removed as I see 25Mbps as the sweet spot for Internet bandwidth speed, fast enough for 4K video streaming. I personally would like the option to downgrade my line to 25Mbps if I'm finding I'm not making full use of the 100Mbps service.

      • +1

Thanks for that feedback. The main reason is that nbn25 and nbn50 cost the same AVC wise, doesn't make much sense to offer a slower speed if its the same price.

We would introduce it back around mid next year :)

  • When does this offer end?

    • +1

      See the below :)

      • Thanks!

  • This offer technically ends on the 31st of Dec but…

It will be extended till the end of Feb, however, the Lightning 100 will go up to $74.95 (which is still pretty good value) and the 50 will remain as is at its current low price point while we will be removing Lightning 25 - this will be brought back later in 2018), if you've pre-ordered, you won't be affected, would be best to lock in those orders now and request a delayed activation ;)

We still will have no setup fees, no contracts and no cancellation fees :)

Also, our T&Cs will be changing, we will be removing the 30 day notice period however no longer providing a refund on the remaining days of your billing cycle. This won't be 100% updated in the CIS until Feb, but if you cancel earlier, let us know and we'll waive that restriction for you.

Plus we will be phasing out the basic modem and introducing the D-Link Cobra and Taipan, we're still working out pricing, get in touch if you're interested in these lean, mean, wifi providing machines.

Our modem offer will also be extended until the end of Feb plus Mungi Voice Lite will be launching tomorrow which is $4.95 per month for incoming landline calls (received on a iOS/Android App or through VoIP Adapter or DVA-2800). This will later become pay as you go for calls in Feb (once we upgrade our billing system to support this, we're still working-out call-rates). If you're an existing customer, please raise a ticket from My Mungi and the team will sort this out for you :)

Thanks to all our customers who have left reviews, we love reading them, we've been printing them and posting each of them on our office wall :) If you haven't seen them, check them out at https://www.productreview.com.au/p/mungi-internet.html

Feel free to email me at [email protected] if you have any questions. :)

    • I like where you guys are going. If it's reflected in a reasonably good connection I'll be happy to stay for life.

      • It's all about being reasonable and fair. It's a very different outlook compared to other providers. If you have any pieces of feedback, shoot me an email and I would be glad to read it

  • I just spoke to online chat, and they advised if I want call diversion from the landline to a mobile, I need the mobile app. I have an android phone, what's the app called? I can't find it under 'Mungi'?

    • You'll get these details in your voice welcome email :)

  • After great customer service, activation and how easy it is to buy online, I'm afraid that I will be going elsewhere if the speed is not up to par with expected speeds.

    • I was with Telstra on a 25mbps plan, and I would constantly 24/7 would get 21 - 24 mbps. I would not have to worry about "expected speeds" in peak hour. It was constant speed.
    • Before Telstra, I was with TPG on 50mbps plan and I would constantly 24/7 would get 43 - 49 mbps. I would not have to worry about "expected speeds" in peak hour. It was constant speed.
    • In the last 3 years having NBN, I would not have to worry about "expected speeds" and I was certain I am the minority that wouldn't have to worry about fluctuating speeds. Until now;

    • Now I join Mungi, on a 100 mbps plan, my speed since 2pm (a non-congested time according to online time spans) has never reached over 40mbps. Now for the last hour is always around 12 to 20 mbps!!!!! I didn't even get these speeds with telstra 25mbps plan!!!!!!!

TPG and Telstra has been stable for my home, and my home is FTTP.

All I can say…. interesting…… Mungi is doing something "different".

    • Thanks for that feedback hasher22, these speeds are definitely not right and we believe there's something wrong as we've had no other reports in your area. We've raised this to nbn to investigate however due to the holiday/embargo period, we won't be able to get an update until Tuesday. We'll be in touch once we get an update :)

      • Thanks for the quick reply,

After 1.5 hours of troubleshooting, I came to the conclusion it is Mungi.

        What I have done;
        - I have three modems (one from TPG, one from telstra and an aftermarket modem purchased in a retailer) and I have connected all three modems, entered the username and password, reset the modems. Ran speed tests and still around the 12 - 20 mpbs!!
        - Since my Telstra NBN has not been disconnected from Port 1, I connected my Telstra modem to Port 1, entered my Telstra details and to my surprise, I ran 3 x speed tests: As follows 21, 23, 21 mbps!
        - I connected my aftermarket modem to Port 1, entered my Telstra details. Ran speed test 3x: 22, 23, 23mbps!!!!!

Telstra is stable on my 25mbps plan!

Why is Mungi, on a 100mbps giving me 12 to 20mbps!?

I wasted alot of time troubleshooting and setting the NBN today and I am quite drained thinking it's my end.

        • Seems your service hasn’t been provisioned correctly. I’ll have more clarification on Tuesday. Have a great weekend!

        • @MungiDreamIT:

Thanks for the update, I assume you already know my account details or I need to send it to you?

I think I know who I'm speaking too, feel free to send your details to [email protected]

Otherwise as mentioned, it seems your service is provisioned incorrectly.

          EDIT: Typo

        • @MungiDreamIT:

Thanks, I just sent an e-mail. If the account is provisioned correctly and I have tested 3 modems, kept a log of the speeds and the speeds are not up to par, then something is going on……

        • @hasher22:

It was a typo. It seems your service is provisioned incorrectly. I'll be able to get more insight into your line from Tuesday

        • @MungiDreamIT:

Ahhhhh I really hope it was provisioned incorrectly, I am not asking for 90+ mbps 24/7. Just want something that is realistic for onpeak/offpeak times. And I do appreciate you replying asap and giving the time and day to help my current situation :)

        • @hasher22:

Yeah that's what I've been saying for a while now. I won't be able to follow up on this until Tuesday. I'll be glad to offer an immediate cancellation and refund if you do not wish to wait while we work through this.

We really need your assistance and patience while our network guys check up on this, please note that this weekend is the end of the embargo period, a non-business day and a public holiday.

I'm replying to your email now.

  • Please note for VIC/TAS/NSW customers, we've on-boarded a significant number of customers, we've organised additional bandwidth, this should be kicking in soon as well.
