in my experience - they last close to 2 years (however the app will provide warnings to replace post the 1 year mark) I only needed to replenish when they stop getting detected!
I bought two brand new tile mates $65 on ebay 7 month ago. One is already dead, the another one is still working. The battery can't be replaced, it is not worth to buy.
Look at trackR as am alternative. It has a lot of users and has replaceable batteries.

Would buy this but with no replaceable battery and the company actually stopping devices to force repurchase…well, a huge no. TrackR looks very shonky as well (see comment on TRackR OzB post).

I don't know why they haven't. They already know when I brush my teeth and go to the toilet (coincidentally at the same time - conservation of energy and all that), why not know every time I grab my wallet, keys or take my dog for a walk. It will complete the picture and I am sure they can sell me more stuff.

I've always found these interesting but the model requires paying for annual renewal for what is basically a product that works in bluetooth range. There are other cheaper products with user replaceable batteries that can do that reasonably.
The big advantage is the extended coverage that comes from a network of Tile users but that depends on the popularity of the product in your area and other factors. As soon as the product loses favour then your Tiles gradually revert to expensive bluetooth only tags.
