I've been keeping my eye on this monitor as the US Dell store has had it discounted recently. First time I've seen it under $2000 locally. Part of Boxing Day Sale on monitors at Dell Australia which ends 28th of December.

Review

The Alienware AW3418DW is the fastest gaming monitor with a 21:9 ultrawide aspect ratio on the market today, with an overclocked refresh rate of 120Hz. If you want smooth, high-frame-rate games with an immersive vision-filling aspect ratio, and plenty of game-specific features, the Alienware AW3418DW is an excellent – if pricey – choice.

I guess some people take video games way too seriously.

      It's their money though.

I guess if you drive anything more expensive than an '07 Camry you take cars way too seriously.

        It's their money though.

      Yes, wirelessly, the human brain.

Maybe add IPS to title OP, as that's a big selling point aswell, looks like a great monitor!

    • +1

      Done

    • -1

Yup IPS is great for the viewing angles. Worth the color tradeoff imho.

      • -1

No one should be buying ultrawide for colour fidelity. IPS Glow wrecks it for all but the centre. Shorter radius of the curve helps (ie. more rounded) but the artifact is still pervasive. Ultrawides are brilliant for bezel-free realestate that’s all. Love my u3415w.

        • No one should be buying a a curved monitor with any other panel, all have bad viewing angles.

I was about to pull the trigger on the pg348q swift from Asus now i have a dilemma. I wonder if you were to talk to them they could add a few to their ebay store and claim the 20% off ?

    • I emailed the EBAY store and asked them to put them on ebay.

      Their reply:

      Thanks for your email enquiry

At this current stage we will not be adding any new products to the Dell eBay store.

      Kind regards
      Joe

      • Thanks for posting their response my email is still yet to be responded too.

RRP is US$999 vs AUS$2099?!? Outrageous.

Dell Australia have a long history of price gouging with flagship models.

    • +1

Well, the original RRP was $1499 in US. It's currently $1149 but they have had it on sale for $999 during black friday I think

  • I assume this uses the same panel as the Asus PG348Q?

    It looks very similar

    • +1

The Asus and the Acer use a LG panel. This is a new panel from something that is yet to be released from anyone else ( probably some thing that will be in the 2018 line up).

  • this is the end game

  • +1

    JB has this https://www.jbhifi.com.au/computers-tablets/monitors/alienwa…

You could use your 15% discounter giftcards + price match.

  • +1

How would this be for watching video? Does the curvature annoy anyone for when they aren't gaming?

    • +1

      Curvature is essential for ultrawides.

  • For anyone interested in this screen, Dell is still selling it for $1679.

  • Yep this deal is on until 4 Jan.

  • If anyone is still wanting this its worth asking Dell's live chat sales consultant, I got an offer for $1785 just by asking. That's still over $400 cheaper than JB Hifi!
