Farmhouse Gold Brandy Custard 1.6kg $3 (Was $9) @ Woolworths [In-store]

1010

This stuff is so bloody delicious; it's thick and has a strong brandy taste. Lather it over your left over Christmas cake/pudding.

May be as cheap as $1.50 for short dated stock at your local.

  • Can it be made into frozen custard?

    • +6

      Put it in the freezer.

Sure you didn’t miss a step?

          Open the freezer door.

        • @Maverick-au:

          Open the freezer door.

          Buy the custard.

  • +2

Added this to my delivery and it was out of stock! Good if u can get some.

Really really good over a bowl of summer fruit too (chopped / stewed apricots, cherries etc).

    • +4

Oooo I've got stewed rhubarb in the fridge, thanks.

      • Yes brilliant idea!

  • +1

Great, I'll look out for this.

    • Seen at Maitland but I bought none due to full fridge.

  • Peach Melba?

  • head to any coles / woolies and grab paul branch flavor custard … all these Xmas special will be at dirt cheap price..

    • +8

Does it have a woody taste?

      • +9

        I'd leaf it alone.

        • +1

I wood do that if it didn't taste soo darn good

        • Can it be smoked and any bonus effects?

    • Who is Paul Branch?

          Who is Paul Brand?

  • +23

Yeah, drank a 800ml bottle for lunch today. It was 50cents but expires on the 1st

    • +1

      the epitome of OzBargain

      • +2

Only got 1 of the 4-5 bottles there though. So in theory it could have been lunch for 3 days straight. But I bought others (egg nog, other custards etc) all in the 1 dollar range but with longer expiry dates.

    • +1

Well, at least we know you won't expire on the 1st.

  • Yummy heated up, had a full bowl last night.

  • +3

This stuff tastes great and didn't give me angry diarrhoea.

    • +16

      Just regular diarrhoea?

      • +9

        Relaxed diarrhoea.

      • +4

        Yes actually.

      • Maybe happy diarrhoea?

        Crap, beaten

        • You called?

    • didn't give me angry diarrhoea.

      Happy diarrhoea?

    • I didn't know diarrhoea have mood swings..

  • Has less than 0.5% alcohol. Regular price at my local woolies was $6.

    • +1

Are you sure that wasn’t the 800g size?

      • Quite sure. I picked up 2 bottles, 1 left.

        • I would have been tempted to buy it if the regular price was $6 pre Christmas. It was always $9 everywhere I checked in WA until after Christmas when it dropped to half price at $4.50

    • It does taste a bit boozy.

  • +2

$1.50 used by 02 Jan. at Caringbah.

I've had this before. The thing I don't like about it is the bottle it comes in. Once it's finished, there is heaps of custard left stuck to the inside of the bottle. With traditional custard tubs, you can use a spoon to scrape it all out, but with this you can't. So you end up wasting a lot of custard. As an ozbargainer, I hate wasting something I have paid for. Therefore I won't be buying this again purely because of the bad shape of the packaging.

    • +14

Use a hacksaw to cut open the bottle and spoon it out, c'mon dude.

      • I do that all the time with unhomogenised milk with cream on top. The cream gets stuck in can handles that I can't see getting wasted.

    • +13

Turn it upside down with the lid on and wait 10 minutes.

    • +1

I have worked around this issue by inverting the bottle for a few minutes with the top on. I find it runs down and there is very little waste.

    • +2

I swirled it with water… No waste. I do that with cans of tomatoes etc

      • -1

except you get a diluted taste. no thanks

        • +1

Only needs a drop of liquid.

    • +3

Pour some cold milk and shake….

    • Just shake it and it kind of globs together and just slides out.

    • +1

When nearly empty, store upside down in the fridge door?

    • Add some milk and shake !

  • +1

Couldn't even find this stuff before Christmas, and I checked both Coles and Woolies. Doubt they will have any now.

    • +1

They had lots at my local, some not expiring until 8 Jan.

      • I just came back from two Woolworths stores and only found one bottle, expiry date 4 Jan. Eating it now with cherries, blueberries and cinnamon. I think I'd prefer it without the brandy flavour. Maybe it's better suited as a fruit cake topping.

  • +5

I discovered Pauls Farmhouse Gold full cream milk. It is amazing. Actually tastes creamy unlike that pisswater supermarket brand. Highly recommend people try it

    • I buy it all the time. It's one of the few Unhomogenised milks available (homogonising forces milk through fine strainers that break up the fat particles).

    • Been around for a while, good stuff

    • I can't stand any of the Paul's brand milk. Can imagine it's what milk in the USA tastes like. Like melted ice cream. Urgh!

      • Like what it's supposed to taste like…..milk.

If you think coles / select brand is milk, it's not. Even branded stuff like harvey and brownes is watered down.

      • +1

The regular store brand milk in USA doesn't taste very different from that here. What makes you think they sell better quality milk?

        • I don't understand the question

        • @Whomastadon: Sorry, I thought you would be able to make out but the question was for @hazoir on his comment above. My bad.

    • Gold tops fresh from the Milk Man!

  • +1

I love brandy custard but this stuff was seriously gross.

  • I had a mince pie floater :)

  • +13

You're in that small window where you can have your brandy custard on your hot cross buns…what a time to be alive!

  • $2 in Devonport for 1.6kg. Plenty left this afternoon. Think expiry is 4/1.

  • +1

Heaps left in St Marys store at 1.5$ as at 3 pm. Expires 2nd January.

  • -1

Isn't brandy bitter? Never thought it is delicious.

  • Unavailable

    • Online but probably still available in store.

  • I don't mind drinking alcohol but normally dislike alcoholic foods/sweets such as rum balls, liqueur chocolates and such, yet this custards' alcohol content/taste is so low/subtle that quite I like it.

    • +1

I put a tablespoon of rum in my chocolate mousse recipe. Delicious but not overpowering.

Bought the last bottle at Airport West Woolworths. Was marked at $4.50 but scanned in at $3. Thanks OP! (None at Airport West Coles)

  • +1
