Best Buffet You've Ever Been To?

I'm currently sitting in a chinese buffet that cost me $12 for unlimited servings and great food. So I was thinking what does ozbargain consider a "great" buffet? What's the best buffet you've been too?

I loved this about Melba in Melbourne.. they make fresh naan bread, you can get garlic or cheese but they also have an M&M naan, it's delicious!

      • naan bread

Which translates to flatbread bread. ;)

  • Marconi is decent also Merrylands bowling club wasn't to bad last time i went.

Merrylands rsl use to be good but they've been slacking of last time i went there might try them again since they upgraded there recently.

Give them a go just don't eat too much- Nevermind it's a buffet! Haha

$12 for unlimited Chinese?! This is in Perth I assume? I haven't seen Chinese Buffets that cheap in a long time.

The Chinese all-you-can-eat deals I know of in my area are scams for food gamblers that think they can eat a lot more than they actually can. At least one place charges you extra for unfinished plates (though I assume not the last plate). Even taking into account the average binge-eater, the house always wins in my area.

It's in the country town of Busselton.
      https://www.google.com.au/search?q=great+wall+chinese+bussel…
She charged us $12 each so it came to $36 for 3 people

    • +23

how is charging you for what you didn't eat a scam? you shouldn't take more if you are going to waste it.

      • +6

I forget that people on the internet don't know me in real life and take my exaggeration and faux-bitchiness literally :) The "scam" (add symbol for sarcasm) was a joke reference to people that think they'll save money eating buffets (it's ~$39 in my area). In my area, you'd say "you got gipped" or "you got scammed" over the most trivial things, even when you obviously weren't defrauded.

The second sentence was an aside I meant to put in parentheses as an interesting rule. I'm very anti-wastage (it's actually a critical component of one of my jobs so I'm even perhaps extreme). I normally don't proselytyse online though.

I think I have to get offline for a while since I'm explaining my bad jokes too often recently (holiday hangover?) when I don't actually care at all. This was obviously a bad gambling joke and many people on OzBargain read into things way way way more seriously than people I associate with in real life. I realise that if people can't tell I'm nearly always being intentionally ridiculous (like Dave Hughes with his green bags joke or 90% of Reddit comments) then I must sound like a misogynist, racist, animal-torturing, environment destroying pig. Oh well…

          TLDR

Seven Hills star buffet on a Saturday lunch, with mainly Chinese food; BBQ pork, fried rice, Malaysian curry, etc is $16 for member and $18 for non member and yes it's recent and in NSW near Black town. And yes it's gambling venue but I only go there for the food.

      • Whenever I do road trips in NSW I look for RSLs for lunch - Victoria doesn't seem to go all out the same way

A resort called Vinpearl In Nha Trang Vietnam.

their selection was so vast it took us 3 days to Try them all.

    • +1

      That sounds bloody awesome.

    • Is that the brekkie buffet?

      • yeah :D and lunch and dinner as well !

SA - Fresh Choice (that was a couple of years ago).

I fondly remember Sizzlers from 25+ years ago (no longer in SA)

    • We still have sizzlers in Wa. It's over priced and never get ur money from it but that's my opinion also the food isn't the best either

    • +1

      You like Fresh Choice?
I prefer the Watermark, more variety and better quality, but also more pricey..

  • +2

ones in Hong Kong and Macau are pretty decent.

Out of the 5 star ones in Sydney, none of them are very good. The worst ones are Sheraton on the Park, Cafe Mix (at the Shangri La) and Harvest Buffet, where they serve cheap quality seafood.

Cafe Opera at the Intercontinental Hotel is going downhill too.

Basically cost is going up and they are cutting quality. (serving cheap seafood like mussels, vannamei prawns, tasteless spanner crabs). They basically get away with it as they present it very well, and most people won't be able to tell the difference between Vannamei prawn and a better quality one.

No lobster, unless at Christmas where they charge around $200 a head.

  • +4

Melba @ Langham Hotel in Melbourne. Pretty good lunch buffet for $64.

    • +2

$64! I paid super cheap for my lunch then lol

      • +1

Quality vs Price i guess :)

        • True

        • Have you seen the TV show called 'expensivest' on SBS 32? $105 breakfast all you can eat in a Las Vegas casino.

          quality?

    • Yep, as someone who isn't huge on seafood, I find the lunch buffet much better value. It's pretty much the same as dinner but without oysters and lobster etc.

  • +1

Carousel, Royal Plaza on Scotts in Singapore. Complimentary lunch buffet vouchers from my mummy!

  • +1

the buffets in Sri Lanka has been the ones with best variety, hands down! apart from that, cruises have been pretty good and I agree with German brekky

    • +1

Upvote for correctly spelling it "brekky". I hate seeing signs outside cafes proffering "breakie". It just doesn't read right to me.

      • +1

Thanks. I think I spell it Break y but it always looked wrong. Wasn't sure how to spell it.
        Brekky.

      • I had a french girlfriend who thought it was Brake-Y because of the spelling. Never corrected her, somethings sound cuter en francais :)

  • +5

I always get buffet anxiety. Leave feeling full after 2 plates, and one hour later feel famished

  • The Grace Hotel. It was some Chinese New Year special.

I am sure if it has ever been repeated again.

China Bar Signature in Melbourne, though it's closed now it was the best buffet in Melbourne

    • First time I went to China Bar Signature I was pleasantly surprised; most, if not all dishes on offer were fresh and well balanced. Back then, we bought entire booklets of vouchers which came out to be roughly $15 for lunch and $30 for dinner. At full price though, I don't think it's worth it

      • Same, we loved the lunch buffet.

    • I haven't been to the Melbourne branch, but I always felt that the Burwood one was very good too, which is still open.

    • There are 3 China Bar Signature Buffets in Melbourne still - CBD, Burwood and … somewhere else

Maybe you're thinking of Dragon Boat Palace, which had all you can eat Yum Cha for $19.80 on a weekday? That closure traumatised my family

      • I wrote it incorrectly, I was referring to the CBD chain

  • +2

Bazaar restaurant at the QT hotel Gold Coast.

    • How much is it?

      • It's around $70 per person normally. We got it included with a stay in the hotel (as well as breakfast buffet) which is a far better option if you can find a good deal online.

        • Thanks.

      • It's actually $39pp for the breakfast and agree it's good. Doesn't compare to buffets in Asian countries though.

        • Gee, you can buy a pretty good breakfast anywhere for under $39. Not sure if I would get my value at breakfast time.

  • +1

Lemon Garden @ Shangri-La Hotel Kuala Lumpur. Greatest of all time.

    • i saw a youtube video on this…it looked amazing!

    • Agree with this. Place was great

  • +6

Pizza Hut all you can eat back in the day
Royal on the park Brisbane, but that was many years ago

    • +2

Yeah 5.95 kids works as a 14 year old claiming "twelvies don't have ID"

I was always a natural ozbargainer.

      • +2

Ozbargainers don't eat the crusts in a pizza buffet though.

        • Fat ones do. And I'm also a gentleman.

    • There's one in Adelaide that still does the all you can eat. Went there a few years ago, such a treat.

  • Aside from a Marriot hotel in China and a Vegas buffet at the Aria hotel which are hard to beat, I splash our every couple years at the The Conservatory at Crown, it’s around $140 a head if you include a couple drinks but always enjoy the food there, pretty pricey, but nice to sit in a big window overlooking the Yarra and watching the flame jets.

I still enjoy a cheap Chinese buffet occasionally but nearly all of them leave a yuck MSG taste.

    • Today's luckily didn't and for the $12 we paid I was very very impressed. Usually they fill you up way too quick. But today's was perfect

  • +3

Pizza hut works when I was a kid. Not as great anymore.

    • Does pizza hut have buffets still?

      • We went by one in Ballarat.

      • Yah only those restaurant type and not available in most area. I went to one in Windsor. Fresh pizza constantly in but for a reason it doesn't feel the same as one in George St city even I think they serve the same thing.

      • There’s a few in regional Vic still

  • +3

Star Buffet in Canberra, under $30, included sushi train, Asian foods (including pork buns), Indian foods, Western foods (different roasts), seafood and a large selection of desserts (including a massive chocolate fondue fountain).

    • That sounds pretty awesome.
You should go for me and send some pictures

      • Star Buffets are awesome! They're a chain and there's 11 across NSW and in Canberra. In addition to the foods mentioned above the one at the Central Coast Leagues Club in Gosford has a fresh wood fired pizza station and the one at the Marconi Club in Bossley Park does freshly made waffles. They change their pricing depending on the club, whether it's lunch or dinner and the day of the week, but the one at Gosford is as cheap as $14.80 for a weekday lunch, can't go past that for value.

  • Food fantasy, gold coast…. YAS!

    • Fantasy's with food

  • Pizza Hut! Yummy! You even get the runs afterwards!

    • Wouldn't be running back for more would you?

  • Where is the op 12 dollar buffet, I want to try

    • Yeah sounds very yummy

a few years back (2012 or so) there was one at Newcastle. It was right near the brothels in the city. Area was dirty as shit and no parking, but they had all you can eat Chinese for $8.
They had calamari and Prawn Cutlets and all the normal chinese stuff, plus an ice cream machine. I use to just eat the calamari and Prawn Cutlets with the sweet and sour dipping sauce. Thats place was great. Too bad the owners got deported.
They also had $7.5 all you can eat for lunch during the week.

  • There was a $50 crafternoon one with Regina Cakes, and the $70/90 Windsor dessert one.

Not too keen on buffets as I always tend to overeat…

  • +1

Best Buffet You've Ever Been To?

    Scab best ever….

  • Hands down Spiral Buffet @ Sofitel Manila, nothing like it anywhere here, even beats the ones in Vegas hotels

  • +1

There used to be this all you can eat yum cha on Lonsdale St which has since closed down…$16.50, was delicious, went there all the time.

    • Dragonboat. :(

      • Why did it close???? :_(

        • +1

It was always busy! I went as often as I could

Now we look for All-in Hotpots, like FB Rotary in Collingwood

  • -5

The best Buffet is the one you make at home fresh ingriedents and a lot cheaper believe me
You know what the cost is

    • +2

you make at home fresh ingriedents and a lot cheaper believe me. You know what the cost is

The cost would be quite high if you were to cook up such a large variety of different foods at home!

Especially if you're a loner, like myself! haha

    • +2

I can't quite tell which hat you're wearing, is that the food police or the fun police? ;)

    Royal Caribbean Cruise.
    10 nights = $900.
Buffet for breakfast, lunch and occasionally dinner

  • +1

vegan/veggie buffets in frankston, melbourne are hard to find. $12 is great for a good chinese. though they tend to have limited veg dishes. the all you can eat buffets in sydney clubs [rsls] or some others tended to ahve poor offerings in terms of taste and quality. gave up after a while. now prefer to find a quality affordable vegan place to eat at springvale vegetarian bowl [weekdays not holidays] for quality food. the vegetarian hut at box hill is also good. [both are a la carte].

  • Suminoya - in Sydney. It is Japanese. Really love their wagyu beef, selection of meat, salads and seafood, and dessert.

Better than the self serve buffets that I have been to, The Seafood Continental? star buffet, the star buffet, mounties.

  • One time I was out in some crappy little town in Indiana USA and I thought I'd check out the local buffet. 7USD and they had just about any food you can think of, Chinese, sushi, steak. Everyone inside was obese.

    It was remarkable.

      • No it was somewhere in Muncie, IN. And it definitely wasn't the "best buffet" I just thought it was topical haha.

        • +1

@rawm: Looks like that's the one, not 100% sure though. It was back in 2013 so I'm a bit hazy.

    • Everyone inside was obese.

      It was remarkable.

      No it isn't. ;)

  • +2

The bestest lunch buffet I ever had was in Madras Chettinad in Atlanta, GA - $13 USD and it had every South Indian vegetarian dish I'd ever known of. This was a few years ago though.

Their food is so good, a lot of people trying Indian food for the first time pop their cherry at this place.

  • Well it certainly wasn't the cheapest buffet I've been to, but Bazaar @ QT on the Gold Coast rocked my world. Not cheap by any means, but better than the sheraton/mirage and jupiters casino buffets that my parents would take me to go to when I was a teenager.

    https://www.qthotelsandresorts.com/gold-coast/eat-drink/

    • I've been to Bazaar a few years ago and it was great. I had a look at some photos of it recently and it looks like they've cut costs in their seafood area (scallops and bugs have been deleted).

The dessert section was always nice.

      • nooooo

  • The Yas Island Viceroy Hotel in Abu Dhabi. The Iftar (~7pm) fast-breaking feast at Eid was literally the most bountiful and sumptuous selection of exotic and delicious dishes, and there was quite literally hundreds of them. An amazing experience and I think at about ~$40-50 aud? (150 Dirhams) it was worth the memory. Also being able to share it with many of my muslim friends, for whom an Iftar meal is somewhat special, was an added bonus.

  • Caesars Palace in Las Vegas.

  • Every Sizzler I've ever been to.

    • +2

      You enjoy sizzlers?
I always end up feeling extremely sick after

      • Gotta pace yourself on the nachos and pumpkin soup and croutons.
