Time to clean out my whistle!

  • Cashrewards terms and conditions

$32/mth on Virgin's 12/mth SIM only plan gets 20GB data and $40 cashback on top!

Available to new Virgin Mobile customers only. Cashback is paid once per order/transaction, regardless of the number of plans purchased on that order.

  • Do you get full Optus speeds

  • +2

Time to port from Internode's NodeMobile, who give only 7G for $40 per month which is simply ridiculous these days.

  • Does the price change back to $40 after 12 months?

    • +2

No, it will remain until you change or cancel your service

      • Thanks. Just signed up. 20gb with data roll over for life of the plan is awesome.

        • I always hit them up on chat too just to see whether there's any data bonuses they have available on my account

  • The only thing keeping me with Optus instead of changing to this is that Netflix doesn't count towards usage. Hmm

    • +1

Been with optus for awhile too. I talked to Optus online sales and they wouldn't match Virgin's plan.. yet they are happy to offer new customers similar plans.

      • +1

same here. time to say goodbye to optus for me and hello Virgin.

      • Port out, use virgin for a month, negotiate a deal with Optus, port back in

        Oh, and yea, $profit$

        • I can't see the benefit of staying with Optus if Virgin uses the same Optus' network. If I am going to go through with all the effort just to go back to a company that doesn't reward loyalty, what kind of ozbargain am I? :)

    • That's for SD content only right?

  • +3

    I'm Officially now Virgin :)

    • +7

and you will remain Virgin for the next 12 months!

  • so $30 with 5GB or $35 with 1.5GB?
    is this a typo?

    • $50 international calls/texts included in the $30/month versus $300 in the $35/month.

To those on vodafone thinking of making the switch to virgin here are my experiences. Their coverage is limited and their 4g connection isnt as fast as vodafone. I was with voda for 8 years and stuck through all their coverage problems, the only reason I left was they couldnt match the Virgin price/GB combo. I use the phone mainly in the Parramatta CBD area, but also frequent Port Macquarie/Salamander Bay (non metro area's). Before I made the switch my service was bearable when I wasn't in Sydney, now its basically non existent if i leave the metropolitan area. Even within Sydney I find the signal strength and speed of 4G poor. I will sit out my contract and then resign with vodafone after my 9 months left.

You should be able to get out of contract with that experience

It's highly likely you have a phone that doesn't support Band 28 LTE. Optus' 4G coverage is far and beyond better than Vodafone's.

Furthermore if your device doesn't support Band 28 it's likely it has very limited LTE support meaning you are unable to take advantage of the advanced features of the Optus or Telstra 4G/LTE networks. Vodafone on the other hand runs a very simple 4G network with a reasonable amount of bandwidth in widely supported bands.

      • I have a Samsung S6 that was orignally from Telstra so id hope that its compatible.

  • if i go with $30 plan ($24 after discount), would i be eligible for $40 discount

  • -1

I tried to get Optus to match, no deal

  • +1

Anyone tried to match existing Virgin contract? im currently on the $32 but only get 15gb ;( Will try messaging them shortly..

    • +1

I tried, the lady just added the extra 5GB as a data bonus without changing the contract… but I've found that the service sometimes isn't consistent across the board. Some will help the best that they can, some will flat out deny it

    • im on the same contract as you.
please let me know how you go. thanks

      • No dice. Said nothing he/she can do. Unless I want to break contract.

A little help here please! Just tried to order the $40/month plan and couldn't see where to put the discount code in. The price didn't drop at any point to $32/month, so where/when does the 20% get discounted?

    • If you read the terms of the total amount contract for 12 months you will see that the price will include 20% discount

      • I tried signing up to the $40/month plan as well at at no stage is the 20% discount applied. It still says $480 over 12 months. I have read the CIS and nowhere does the price change.

        • I have the same issue. Cannot make this deal work and online chat is not available during weekends.
          Did you figure this out?

    • Let me know if you've managed to get the discount working.

Kogan prepaid 12 months $315 or $26-$27/month for 23gb. Kick it off with $4.90 starter for a month. No data roll over though.

    • +1

The data-free music streaming also makes a huge difference, Spotify makes up about 25% of my data usage.

  • +1

Can you get a student discount on top?

    • +1

      You can't, I asked :(

  • Can I buy this and activate later, or do you have to do the switch before the end of the month?

  • +1

Pity the free music streaming is only until March…

    • this is the only thing holding me back from signing up… Spotify makes up about 75% of my normal data usage.

  • im on an Optus sim only plan with 2 months left on the contract.
Cam I move to Virgin now, without a EEF with optus?

or just wait till i'm month to month?

  • Does Virgin use the exact network as Optus?

    • Yes, all resellers on the Optus network get the full network.

  • I can't find anything about the $40 Cashback on Virgin's website - help. Also, I'm planning to sign up for the $30 a month/5gb etc. will I get the $40 Cashback? (P.s I'll be signing up as a new Virgin customer). Thanks.
