How many of these items do you have in stock, OP?

    • As per ebay store: More than 10 available

    • +4

I have more than 15 units

      • Onboard or dedicated graphics.

        • i think onboard (integrated)

        • @dragonindespair: as it's not stated anywhere I assume the same but never hurts to ask.

        • @Slippery Fish: just google the model

        • @dragonindespair: lol laptop models vary depending on the actual model, 840 g3 will have multiple Configs. Only the op can know for sure.

        • @Slippery Fish: not on this one :) i listed all from australia hp store. if OP got it from other countries then not my fault

        • @dragonindespair: yep :P you win hahaha

        • +2

@Slippery Fish: doing all the marketing for the OP no commission received, not buying either (afraid too heavy and not touch screen) - at least i got "you win mate" from you. thanks

      • +1

        So you have 16 units?

  • Screen size in description wouldn't go astray?!

    • +1

      Screen size: 14"

      • any data on the screen type (and native display resolution)

        • +1

          LCD Backlight Technology LED backlight
          Widescreen Display Yes
          Image Aspect Ratio 16:9
Monitor Features Full HD standard-viewing angle (SVA) eDP anti-glare, Slim Design
          Type LED
          TFT Technology TN
          Diagonal Size (metric) 35.6 cm
          Display Resolution Abbreviation Full HD

        • +3

Most EliteBook 840s with those specs should be 1080p but youd need the OP to confirm.
          EDIT. Beat me to it.

      • It doesn't state it, so i am assuming that it isnt a touchscreen… chasing a 11" touchscreen for my son, but would go to 14" if it was touchscreen.

  • Can I ask why you have so many and why they are cheap in comparison to the RRP

    • Its a good question because while this isnt the latest model, that would be the G4, the G3 is still a current model stocked by the distributors. I cant imagine any corp environment is turning these over just yet.

      • +2

Redundancies. Jobs going offshore. Company insolvency. Lots of reasons really.

        • Yep fair enough. Still seems on the cheap side. Maybe a good old fashioned bargain.

        • @ddr0001: I'm just skeptical as they retail on the HP site for around the $2000 mark.

        • @xsmeagle: Yep I have access to wholesale pricing as well. Big difference, wonder what the condition of the chassis is like.

        • +4

@ddr0001: Ok now im really suss, made an offer of $500 and it was automatically accepted… seems he has room to negotiate. Red Flag?

        • +1

@xsmeagle: mine also 500 but got rejected :(

        • @xsmeagle:

mate i offered him 510 he refused

        • @xsmeagle: WTF? Lucky bastard

        • @Stealthzor: what was his counter offer???

        • +1

@Stealthzor: Oh Ok, I'm still jealous of the guy above me who offered $500 and got accepted :(

Apply the 5% discount so he would've gotten it for $475 :(

    • Ex corporate lease gear

      • 1 Year lease?

    • -1

I have one of these from work, this model is a couple of years old and these are refurbished. Price should be $350-$450 range

  • Decent little machines these as we use hundreds of the i7 model at work and haven't had many problems at all. Ours have the glossy 'Touchscreen' but I can see from the eBay pics these ones are just standard matt finish non-Touchscreen. Still a great price for a decent quality machine as these are 'Business Grade' models capable of handling day-today wear & tear a lot better than most 'Domestic' models.

    • but a bit heavy dont you think?

      • +1

Yes & no. Most of the Notebooks here at work never leave their users desks so weight & size isn't really a problem. If you want something smaller & lighter you can just pay more, simple.

  • +5

Don't forget PICK5 for an extra 5% off, as well as cashrewards.

  • I have the G2 version of the 840 and I can't understand why HP would go from 4 USB3.0 ports in the G2 to only 2 in the G3.

    • It has 1 x Type C also. The manufacturers are very keen on reducing overall thickness, every ProBook/EliteBook model is slightly thinner than the last.

  • Is warranty direct through HP or through you.

    • HP Warranty direct, quicker service as its business service levels

      • Reply to my earlier question please. :)

        • or one below mine about the model

      • Doesn't HP require some sort of original purchase paperwork or reference numbers??

  • rep can i have the exact model number? (V6D70PA or Y7D79PA or Y7D78PA or other?)

    • +1

Well I guess you win, thanks mate.

  • Intel HD Graphics 520 Shared memory (UMA)

  • anyone know what is this means

    "Expansion slots:
1 media card reader; 1 external SIM"

    external SIM???

    • Used to be a feature of business laptops in particular to have WWAN built in, so I am guessing it has a slot to put your sim in?

      • i see. not many but yes probably good for business.

    • Yes, one slot for sim card on the side of laptop

      • +2

Does this one have the WWAN module built in?

  • Is this too good to be true? It retails for $2829 RRP

    http://h20386.www2.hp.com/AustraliaStore/Merch/Product.aspx?…

    • +1

Nah - it isn't uncommon for these business machines (ex-lease) to go for around this price. HP support from my experience with a similar machine is quite good as well.

    • +1

your link is for i7…. check my link instead above

      • oh ok thanks.

The I5 goes for 2.4K, so a good 1.8K off from RRP, still good I reckon.

  • Really tempted to get this even though I don't "need" a laptop

  • +1

Pulled the trigger. Offered $530 and got counter-offered $550. Applied the 5% discount so total was $522.50

Should've offered $500 so OP would've countered less. Anyway, happy with the purchase so far.

    Thanks OP :)

    • +1

The real Harvey Specter would have offered $400.

    • Offered 500, got countered 550. Cashrewards and 5% off = under 520.

  • how much does a new one retail for?

    • +1

thats still a good $1500 aud, i believe my $475 on one of them was a good steal!

  • Just wanted to ask, if it is under warranty, do I contact hp office in sydney if the machine is not working?

    • Warranty is covered by HP Australia.
Onsite warranty during standard office hours, next available tech resource.

  • how good would this be for a school laptop?

  • vga output?

  • mate how is their a warranty if its been repaired by a non approved technician?

    That voids warranty

    • Depends what has actually been repaired. I've had dozens of modified HP products services under warranty.

      • depends on what exactly

        • Depends on what you've repaired in the laptop. I've done upgrades on RAM, HDDs and even WiFi cards and managed to get onsite warranty fine.

        • the seller didn't declare the work done - neither are legitimate upgrades repairs - but you knew that.

  • oh well my offer was rejected.

  • +1

made 500 offer got countered 550 then i recountered 525 and got rejected.
    re-submitted 550 but sold out.

    well, i saved 550.. hooray

    • At such a discount you probably could have resold it at quite a big markup

    • i guess i was lucky getting it for 500 (475 with PICK5)

      • yeah you are the special one…

  • hmmm..doesn't feel right.

  • These are a brick to carry around.. they are like almost 2 inches thick when closed. I wouldnt touch one..

    • +3

You need to bulk up mate, they're only 1.5Kg

    • Received one this morning, measured it and it's only 0.7 inches thick at its thickest point (closed). And surprisingly light considering I don't even lift.

      • +1

Yeah. Got mixed up with the Elitebook 8470p (Look that one up!). My Bad.

  • Thank got I pulled the trigger, knew it was going to be sold out at this price.

  • I have the i7 version at work.
RRP is way off by the way. $570 is a good price.

  • anyone received? comments/feedback please?

    • Received this morning. Speedy first bootup and aside from a couple of minor scratches it's in pristine condition. Fingerprint reader is a nice touch and recommendation printed on a piece of paper recommending to use Windows Update to update to the latest version.

Was neatly wrapped in bubble wrap and cushioned by a multitude of assorted recycled boxes to cushion it whilst in transit. I also was lucky enough to nab it for $500 ($475 after PICK5).

Edit: Also relatively light for a laptop as I'm used to hefty laptops weighing >2.5Kg.

      • comes with invoice inside the box?

        • No invoice provided inside the box.

      • Does your battery hold charge?
I've updated my windows 10 and still if i unplug the power cord, the laptop abruptly shuts off.
        Any ideas?

        • Mine seems to hold charge thus far, runtime looks to be roughly 4-4.5hrs with wifi on.
