  • Also refer to previous OzB deal for further info on Dell XPS 8930

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/352203

    tldr

    • Deal is cheaper than buying individual components
    • Can upgrade to Windows 10 Pro (from Windows 10 Home) for $110 extra
    • … Also the quoted price includes any gst fees and charges

    • It's okay, i am a neg magnet :)

      • Nice to meet you, A Neg Magnet. I'm iforgotmysocks.

    • -5

      IF IT'S XIAOMI, THEN YES!

    • +15

lol, i'm an idiot, I looked at the pic and thought it was a phone.

Feel free to down vote that comment into oblivion, I deserve it.

      • +1

You are not, Dell is releasing it's new phone! - Jokes aside, after looking at it for a while, the face does look like a phone. Top left hand corner is like a front-facing camera lol.

        • +2

Yeah I thought the same thing!

        • Really? What is it called? Link?

        • +3

@BrodenIt: No! No! I was just joking. But it would be interesting if they did. I'm guessing it would be thick as hell.

        • @watty:
          Kill me again please.

        • The Alienware Atlantis

      • I also thought it was a phone, then i read the title. Still think it looks like a phone - but I know they aint gonna be putting an i7 8700 in a phone.

    • But dudebro it's got a GTX 1070!

  • -4

Hmmmm tough choice between this and this

    • +1

      specs speak for themselves

      • Hahah just funny seeing delusional sellers. IT'S THE SENTIMENTAL VALUE BRO

        • So true. Gumtree is defined as delusional now. Like koalas getting high of the gum leaves :-D

    • +3

Did you just subtly post your own gumtree ad?

      • -1

        Ya got me!

    • Man that Gumtree Pc is garbage hahaha

    • What would you suggest to go with?

      • RYZEN Amd processor.

        • +4

This is really spreading misinformation, The Meltdown issue has been patched in current Windows/Linux/Chrome OS revisions. I think Ryzen's great but blindly telling people to avoid intel isn't proper.

        • Is this about the spectre and meltdown security issues, because amd have the same problem too

        • @ZubatRingo:

Spectre variant 1 and 2 are patchable on amd side. Meltdown affect only Intel from way back to core 2 quad. Also Intel is affected by spectre 1 and 2.

        • +1

If understanding things is important to you stop reading news.

      Ever heard of summarising?

  • Would the Dell Inspiron 15 7000 Gaming Core i5-7300HQ suffice to play games within the last 3-4 years with decent fps?
(World of warcraft, Diablo3, Starcraft2, Overwatch) And would it incur the 10% tax because its shipped from Malaysia?

    • +5

Yes it will do very well with those games - the 1060 Max-Q will have no problems maxing out the detail with 60+fps on a 1080p monitor. It will handle modern AAA games very well too.

No it will not incur any additional GST. The invoice is from Dell Australia.

  • god help me….got two laptops from their last 20% sale and now this comes up again…i dont need this,do i?

  • +3

Be prepared to deal with Dell's terrible customer service, if you ever run into issues with these computers.

    • What? I bought one in the last sale and they come to your house/work if you have any issues. Pretty incredible service.

I complained and wanted a better SSD (Samsung). Immediately the support chat actioned it and after a few false starts their technician came and installed it.

      • This thread has a summary of what I've had to deal with.

Trying to get a refund has been an unnecessary long process with those clowns, I finally got my refund on 12/1/2018 only because I escalated it with eBay and PayPal.

  • Is it possible to install a 240mm aio in this case, particularly in a top mount position?

    • Probably not, no.
The door hinge PSU gets in the way at the top and from what I can see there's nowhere else that'll fit a long radiator like that.

    • +1

      Lol but whyyy?

  • lol saw the pic and thought Dell released a phone

  • Just curious though if you can add this item to your cart and apply the coupon when the day comes to avoid price jacking?

    • No, prices and stock availability can still change if something is in your cart.

    • +5

      It's cheaper than building

    • +6

Gamers are intelligent? I have no clue how you got to this conclusion.

Some people just may want a quick and easy option without the hassle. e.g. Some 15 yo bugging their non-tech savvy parents for a gaming pc?

    • +1

So the CPU, GPU, RAM, storage and OS are all excellent components for gaming at a price cheaper than buying them seperately, what exactly is the failure with this computer?

  • +2

Hmm. Do note I ordered the 8930 last year during the last 20% off sale. And they still haven't shipped it.

It's several weeks for postage so keep that in mind.

    • Contemplating the same unit but after reading your comments I think I will skip it

      • If it helps - I ordered from the last sale on the 29th of Dec and received it on the 9th of January. Posting from the XPS right now :)

  • Anyone done the calculations on how much the components in these are worth all up?

    • Check the second comment from this post linking to the previous deal

      • Ah thanks m8.

  • anyway get the XPS 8930 last time & can comment on how it is?

    • Still waiting on mine to get delivered :/

  • Optional backlit full-size, spill-resistant keyboard with numeric keypad

    So backlight is optional?
How can I make sure I get model with a backlight keyboard?
    Looking at Inspiron 15 7000 i5-7300HQ.

  • is it possible to remove the motherboard, cpu and gpu from the desktop and put it in another case?

Im tempted to buy the desktop and upgrade the case and use an old gold plus psu.

    • I've read a few places that should be ok. Mini ITX mothervowrd., So as long as it takes that should be ok.

If you swap the mobo presume you would lose the OEM win 10.

    • You will need a power converter cable for psu to motherboard as its not the standard motherboard plug. They aren't too pricey though.

  • Thanks for the info mate :)

  • Hi guys,

I'm needing a new semi-budget PC to replace my 10 year old laptop.

Looking to spend around 800-900 for the PC.

Will be doing some light gaming like CS and Dota, nothing too intense, and general use of spreadsheets/web browsing.

Anything you guys recommend from Dell to make use of this discount?

    cheers

  • Are any PCs/laptops Spectre-proof yet?

  • $1519.20 for ryzen 7 build with rx580. not as big of a discount as the ryzen 5 though

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Dell-New-Inspiron-Gaming-Desktop…

  • How would I go gutting (removing all the hardware inside) and installing it into my own case and swapping a few parts out? I know it will void the warranty if it is out of the dell case (worse case scenario I simply put it back together). My main concern would be the motherboard and how compatible that would be with, in my case, fractal design cases. But I was in the process of building my own computer, but with RAM and GPU prices being as stupid as they are, this is the most cost efficient way to go ahead, but I still want my own custom PC feel.

  • Any good monitor deals that can go with this Pc?

  • +1

Fellas, do you think the Dell XPS 8930 would have enough grunt for video editing?

  • +1

The price on the i7 Inspiron is not correct anymore :/

  • +1

Got one, thanks. Now seems to be out of stock.

    I ended up snagging the 15.6" Dell Vostro 7000 notebook for $1359.20 @ Futu_online
Packs the same power but is more discreet and professional in design :)

    Specs:

    i7-7700HQ, GTX 1050 Ti, 8GB DDR4, 128GB SSD + 1 TB HDD, 1080p IPS display, W10 Pro, 2.65 kg

    • Seriously considering this too… when does the PCTECH coupon expire?

      • +1

        23.59 (AEDT) on 22 January 2018

After some deliberation I realised this had everything I could need so I pulled the trigger :)

        I also considered the following:
HP Omen 15 - cheaper & almost perfect except poor battery life
        Lenovo Legion Y520
        Asus ROG
Acer Aspire VX 15 - good value but inferior specs
Acer Nitro 5 - too heavy
        Gigabyte Sabre 15
Inspiron 15 Gaming - storage too low

        • The Vostro one also seems to be the only one that does not look like a "gamer" laptop…

I have been eyeing the Inspiron 7577 those whole 3 days but I still can't decide!

Can you give me any more info on your research?

Still can't pull the trigger :(

        • +1

          @Blue Cat:

Sure I can share a bit more. My budget was $1400 and I wanted a versatile work/play laptop. Therefore I needed plenty of storage and a good video card.

The Inspiron 7577 looks sleeker than the Vostro but it's more expensive and the 940MX video card is significantly weaker than the 1050 Ti (https://www.videocardbenchmark.net/high_end_gpus.html).

Pretty much all of these other options look like gamer laptops although their appearance can vary from being 'acceptable' to 'rather obnoxious'. They all have the Intel i7-7700HQ. I'll copy my notes below:

          $1022 HP Omen 15 GTX 1050 Ti, 12GB(4+8), 1TB HDD, 2.2kg
          $1337 Lenovo Legion Y520 GTX 1050 Ti, 8GB, 128GB SSD + 1TB HDD, 2.39kg
          $1201 ASUS ROG GTX 1050, 8GB, 1 TB HDD, 2.2kg
          $1119 Acer Aspire VX 15 GTX 1050 (4GB), 8GB, 128GB SSD + 1 TB HDD, 2.5kg
          $1319 Acer Nitro 5 GTX 1050 Ti, 16GB, 256GB SSD + 1TB HDD, 3.2kg
          $1255 Gigabyte Sabre 15 GTX1050, 8GB, 128GB + 1TB, 2.5kg

        • +1

          @robotx597:

I should also mention that not all those prices above were from the eBay sale, they were just the cheapest price available on eBay.

        • @robotx597:
          Thanks mate, appreciate it.

Do you know if Vostro's chasis is metal or plastic?

        • @Blue Cat:

          You're welcome.
The pictures certainly look metallic and rather sturdy, not plastic and brittle.

  • +2

The XPS desktop is back in stock.

  • Lads, I've got a laptop that can still run most games, mostly on low-medium settings and is still able to handle video editing and Lightroom decently. However, obviously it will start to struggle in the future. Do you guys think I should buy the XPS 8930 in advance due to a good deal or is there a possibility it will be back on a similar sale later in the year?

    My laptop specs:

    GTX 970m
    i7-4720MQ
    12GB RAM
    250GB SSD + 500GB HDD

  • Can someone advise whether the Dell New Inspiron Gaming Desktop AMD Ryzen is actually a good deal @ $1159?

Looking for a semi-budget PC for some light gaming and general use.

    Not too techy.

    • Would expect it to be very good for your situation. I was pretty happy to buy one myself in this deal - don't game but run multiple monitors and applications.

If you do a ozbargain search on this model there is quite a bit of info from previous sales.

    • The Dell is a 1600X but I would frankly neg the above choice for the looks alone ;-)also after sales backup. My experience with Dell (we use a lot at work) after-sales backup has been good, but sometime Murphy's Law applies. A year down the line a Dell will have a little bit more resale value.
