As far as pre-builts go, the specs on this is rock solid. Can recommend this a nice high end all rounder for productivity/gaming. Good find OP

    • What kind of PSU in this one?

      • +1

It's prebuilt so it goes without saying the PSU is a generic POS.

        • I wonder if they can upgrade it for a small price. That is literally the only thing making me nervous about this deal.

        • +1

I think you would find it to be lower wattage but of decent quality as far as reliability.
Companies like Dell and HP stopped having powersupply issues on the desktop long before whiteboxes did.

    Dell mobile came back.

      Dell mobile comment came back.

  • Will this incur import fees?

    • -7

I would expect so, since it comes from overseas and has a price over $1000 and dell is a seller that respects australian law (and their big fines).

      • -1

thanks, so i guess this really isnt a bargain then??

        • +8

Hi mate, I bought alienware area 51 r2 from last dell ebay sale, for $2400 and i can confirm there was no import duty on the product, if there is an import duty its included in the price, this is very good price given the processor, gpu and memory

        • +1

@amit5280: sweet thanks for the reply mate!! good deal!

        • +1

          @mrjizzler:
I bought one of these last sale zero extra costs incurred with delivery and a kick arse PC for the $

      • +5

        You don’t incur import fees

      • +3

this is Dell Australia on Ebay… no import fee and GST is included in the price..

      • +2

Okay according to all the people who have bought a dell AND dell themselves its included

        "Thanks for your email enquiry

Although this item is built and sent from our overseas factory in Malaysia, there is no additional charges and all costs are included within the price of the machine."

    • +1

It wont. Spoke with them 3 days ago in chat twice about a laptop over the 1000 and they say it wont get import duty cause its Dell Australia, despite coming from a malaysian warehouse.

  • +1

Nice! I have the 7th gen CPU version. Haven't had any issues besides Windows 10 quirks since April.

    • +1

I've had a few times where the screen just froze and I had to hold the power button to restart…. especially a few weeks into using it.

It's been several months now, and I haven't experienced it again. Maybe it was just random :|

      • +3

Possibly Windows 10 related? Everytime I do an update to Windows 10 the audio stops working and I need to troubleshoot.

Also had NVIDIA driver issues that I fixed by installing earlier software.

  • Great price for pre built if you're not bothered about a small extra as opposed to building yourself.

    • How small? MSY comparo time

      • Let me know. I was just adding rough prices off the top of my head. I guess you could chuck a 1080 for same price if you built yourself

        • +1

actually, when I was trying to add it up it looks cheaper than DIY…so depending on the components this is pretty damn good.

        • @Joxer: yep just did it and it is. Interesting… Maybe cause there's no current sale on those individuals

        • +4

          It's slightly cheaper than DIY.
I have just recently bought computer parts with the breakdown:
          CPU: i7-8700k @ 464.4
          GPU: MSI GTX1060 GAMING OC 6GB @ 344.88
          Motherboard: MSI Z370 PC Pro @ 172.08
          RAM: 2x8GB Corsair Vengeance @ 226.8
          PSU: Corsair RM550x @ 128.88
CPU cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212X @ 51.20
          Case: Corsair Carbide 330R @ 150

They all add up to 1538.24. Had I picked a GTX1070 and adding 256GB M.2 SSD and 2TB HDD to it might bring the total to roughly 1900-ish.

        • @junesoo:

Add the cost of a Legal windows 10?

        • +1

          @junesoo: Where did u find the 8700k for $464.4?

        • @knackers:
It was the same time as this deal: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/350843

        • @junesoo: good get

        • @junesoo:
          Great price for the 8700k!

This one is the 8700 so slightly cheaper model although not sure what that necessarily means future proof wise and motherboard wise.

        • +1

@docmartin: I thought the K just means it can be overclocked. So it's only worth that extra if you do that.

        • +1

          @ONEMariachi:
Correct. And it also consume more power than the non-K (although you get higher base clock).

I am building it for a friend who is going to replace his 1st gen i7 build (basically a relic!) and he want his new machine to last as long as his current one (7 years lol) within the 1500AUD budget excluding drive.

So hopefully in few years the 8700k can compensate the technology growth with overclocking.

        • GPU And RAM Are Expensive At the moment.

    • How much extra?

      • Actually cheaper haha

        • +2

Did a quick check against MSY prices (hardware only). I think this is cheaper than building yourself.

          $469 i7-8700
          $549 GTX 1070
          $109 256GB m2 ssd
          $270 16GB DDR4 2666MHz
          $179 z370 motherboard
          $82 2TB 7200rpm hdd
$74 quality tower case with 450/460 watt psu
          $17 DVD RW
          $60 wireless AC card
          $22 wired keyboard and mouse

          Total: $1,831

        • +2

          @gotz:

          dont forget windows license

      • +1

        https://pcpartpicker.com/list/pZWVJV

Honestly very decent pricing (vs USD), albeit pcpartpicker parts are more premium (vs OEM). You do however get warranty direct from Del, Windows, KBM, wireless card etc too.

  • +1

    waiting for the 1080

    • Thats what I was thinking too but I dont think the PSU is adequate.

  • wow excellent and a good upgrade path 1070 holds it own and will last at least another 3-4 years

  • tempting

  • +2

If it makes a difference to some of you, I contacted Dell about these computers a while ago and although they feature M.2 drives, they are the slower SATA spec, not the faster PCI-e ones.

    • Does the motherboard have a pcie m.2 slot?

  • +4

What's the cooling like on these? Do they hold reasonable temperatures? It looks rather restricted in terms of air flow.

    • Surprisingly they move a lot of air quietly, even being hammered the large fan is relatively quite with good airflow, my adult son uses this machine and has had zero issues (gamed heavily) and he has not mentioned heat problems and he would have checked. Proviso the machine had a full format and setup with vanilla Win10 (no bloatware) and an extra HDD fitted.

  • Sorry for asking a very noob question

But if I’m after a new pc just to watch 4K tv and occasionally (if ever) play games

What pc should I consider buying?

Maybe this one is over spec for my needs?

    • what monitor resolution and refresh rate do you plan to play?
      what is your budget?

      • -1

No budget really, but don’t want to buy a fancy pc for the sake of it

I plan to buy a 60” OLED 4K tv to match

        Thanks

        • gaming pcs and tv monitors arent generally recommended

are you going to get a dedicated computer monitor?

        • If 4k tv is your main goal, get a average CPU( i3 or Ryzen 3 or i5 or ryzen 5) but get a GPU with hardware acceleration so you can put all the load of 4k on the you. The rest of the specs is up to you

        • Thanks for the feedback

  • Are there any extra pci slots available? I have a soundcard I'd like to add if possible

    • +1

4 PCIe, but not sure how many available.

      • thanks mate.

this is a sweet deal - i took the plunge.

        Thanks OP!

  • +1

Does anyone know if you can upgrade these from Win 10 Home to Win 10 Pro?
I couldn't see anyway in which this can be done (the Dell website allows it).

    • +1

Just emailed them and this can be done for an extra $110 … they will create custom listing

      • What's their e-mail address. The three people on live chat I spoke to don't know about eBay.

        • +1

Just goto ebay page and choose Contact Seller .. then select Other for topic, then goto bottom of the page and press "Contact the Seller".

        • @Matt2018: Thanks Matt!

  • Already have a Win 10 Pro license. Would this be transferable to upgrade this Home license. Full reinstall required?

  • Does anyone know if it will void the Dell warranty if I add in some extra hard drives I already own?

    • doubt it. The service manual shows you how to open it up to put stuff like hard drives in.

But i dont have the warranty conditions off the top of my head.

  • This or a current iMac?

    • +1

For what? Some people prefer Apple ecosystem but if you're asking specs wise, this by a mile compared to the top spec iMac.

      3.8GHz quad-core 7th-generation Intel Core i5 processor
      Turbo Boost up to 4.2GHz
8GB of 2400MHz memory, configurable up to 64GB
      2TB Fusion Drive1
Radeon Pro 580 with 8GB of video memory
      Two Thunderbolt 3 ports
      5120-by-2880 P3 Retina 5K display

      Apple's and windows, really

    • What would be a high end 27" 4k screen to recommend for this Dell? Something similar to the Mac although Mac is 5k.

      • There's many. Look for ips (preference), high refresh rate and if you're gaming, low response time.

    • There's nothing an iMac offers that compares to these specs at the moment, Even the $3500 iMac has an inferior CPU and GPU inside it.

The major things will simply be, do you prefer the apple OS over Windows, and do you want an all in one build. Beyond that, there is no real advantage.

  • I'm just wondering if I'm just after light gaming (not heavy graphics mmorpg, Dota 2, League of legend) can I get away with buying the Dell XPS 8920 i7-7700 with the GTX1060 with 6GB deal. I just want to use it for a year or two. I just feel like no one is jumping on that deal so I'm assuming this 8th gen is a big deal and is worth it.

    • +1

If that is all you want to do, then the 1060 will be fine for you. the 1060 is still capable of playing all those games on high with 60fps

    • +1

The CPU and integrated graphics alone would be enough to play those games

  • Planning to upgrade 16gb ram to 64gb.

    Does anyone know:

    • 2x8gb or 1x16gb ram
    • clockspeeds for the ram

    Cheers,

    • Why are you upgrading to 64gb ram? Video Editing?

      • Photoshop & After Effects

    • Pretty sure its 2x 8gb. At least thats how they came configured at work. Dont believe Dell allows a 32gb ram upgrade by them, need to upgrade yourself.

      • Okay noted, thanks!

Yea, was going to upgrade the ram myself.

  • +2

Had a pc get fried by a glass of water just before XMAS, so this will be a handy replacement thanks.

    • +1

That must have been very, very hot water!

  • Aww just missed by a day. Voucher no longer works
