  • I wonder if Airplay still works on these systems? I have a couple of Pioneer stereos like this and the Airplay crashes (no firmware updates since like 2012)

  • Anyone know if it charges iPod/iPhone?

    • Have a look at the connector, it looks like the old 30 pin if that's what you still have

      • Ah. Yes of course. Useless for lightning jack iPhones.
Not even 30-pin to lightning adapters work anymore with iOS.

        • tried genuine ones? I used mine all weekend to connect my ip8+ to a really old stereo with the 30 pin

        • @Matt P:
          Yep. Genuine copy!
          [sigh]

  • must of found an old shipment of them?

Probably useless for anyone not running iphone though?

    • +1

Not even Bluetooth streaming but it can do this:

You can use any portable music device or smartphone with a 3.5mm audio-out jack with the AirZone 1. Plug one end of the 3.5mm audio cable (not included) into your MP3 or MP4 player and connect the other end into the AUX line-in port at the back of the speaker.

      • Except phones dont have head phone jacks any more haha

        • There's a 3.5mm audio headphone adapter for that.

        • @hollykryten:
True, i guess for $15 these are probably Decent speakers.

Any chance an ozbargainer has a set and can let us know?

  • Rated pretty highly back in their day: https://www.whathifi.com/gear4/airzone-series-1/review, and https://the-gadgeteer.com/2012/06/27/gear4-airzone-series-1-….
For $30 delivered I'll give it a go and see if I can get it to work with Airplay.

    • OK - amazing deal. Thanks @save50.

Arrived today and setup in 5 minutes.
      * FM tuner found and played the only strong FM signal in my area. Nice, clear sound.
      * Wifi connection a bit fiddly to select each character using up/down keys on the remote, but done in a couple of minutes and connected perfectly first attempt.
      * AirPlay works brilliantly with TuneBlade on the PC, now streaming from Windows Media Player in clear sound.

Sound is pretty good for a portable speaker, a reasonable bass from the bass port, and nice bright mid-tones and treble.

  • this came in 2012 and even for $15 i dont think this is worthy

    • Do you have one/have used one? I can't see how it isn't a good deal at $15 considering it got OK reviews at over 10 times that price

  • Just stick a Bluetooth 30pin adapter on it, and you've got yourself a wireless speaker.

  • Mine arrived today. Brilliant for $15. Sound isnt quite what my Pioneer A3 is, but considering the price difference, i dont care
