I think you were too polite at implying this was a deal but not that great a deal.

And yep the Woolies $10 deal from last year was great. I just activated one of the prepaid sims today and Telstra is giving out 5gb data (valid for a month).

  • +3

can you insert your our data sim card into this device?

    • -7

      That's what she said.

    • +1

Yes you can, but it more likely locked to the Telstra Network. You should be able to purchase an unlocking code off eBay.

      • +1

thanks will grab one to use with my telstra data share sim

        • Exactly what I use mine for. Half a year of usage though and battery life isn't as solid (obviously) and the connection to 4G sometimes drops off taking a while to reconnect away from 3G/GPRS.

        • Could you please tell me if you can just add a Telsrea data share sim ( I believe for $5 per month extra ) on top of a mobile plan?

Or do you need to get a mobile broadband plan/contract in order to data share as that is what we were told by Telstra.

        • +1

@ozhunter68: It's only available on select mobile plans. eg. I am on a $135/mth Go Mobile Plus plan and then pay $5 extra per data share sim.

Looks like the same device, if same should come with 10gb data to use in 30 days.

MF910V is the one with fewer bands, if you were planning on using this travelling.

    MF910V
    4G LTE 700, 1800, 2600 MHz with 150Mbps download
    3G UMTS 850, 2100 MHz with 42Mbps data (HSPA+)

    MF910 / MF910Y
    4G LTE 700, 900, 1800, 2100, 2600 MHz with 150Mbps download
    3G UMTS 850, 900, 2100 MHz with 42Mbps data (HSPA+)

    MF920V
    4G LTE 700, 1800, 2300, 2600 MHz with 150Mbps download
    3G UMTS 900, 2100 MHz with 42Mbps data (HSPA+)

    • Coles one on sale is MF910z which has same bands as MF910.
The difference is MF910/910v has Colour LCD screen.
But other models is LEDs only. No screen.

      • The link says MF910V…are you sure they are MF910Z?

In any case, MF910Z has different bands than MF910:

        MF910Z
        4G LTE 700, 1800, 2600 MHz with 150Mbps download
        3G UMTS 850, 2100 MHz with 42Mbps data (HSPA+)

          • MF910Z - 2.4GHZ only, LED indicators.
          • MF910V - 2.4GHZ & 5GHZ, LED indicators.
          • MF910Y - 2.4GHZ only, LED screen
          • MF910 - 2.4GHZ & 5GHZ, LED Screen
        • @nocure: the one i picked up today is the MF910Z. is that bad?

        • +1

          @hibijibis:
Still OK, I think they are substituting the MF910Z's as their cost would be less, therefore more profit, most people wouldn't notice the difference

  • Isn't this only half price? Only normally sell for $59 at Coles. There's a deal on this every few weeks I thought (at Coles/Woolies/Big W etc)

Edit: Most recent deal 10-16 Jan. That was last week.

  • Locked to Telstra I imagine?

  • +1

I brought this one week ago in half price. For information, It comes with a sim card which has 10 gb data at the time of activation.

    • so you can take out that sim and insert your own data sim?

      • It comes with telstra sim. Used it and then you have to unlock the device to use other network sims. Please search earlier posts about the product where you can find the link to unlock code. It cost you around 3 dollors. After that you can use any oz sims.

  • So is it 100% if I buy this it comes with data? I need a hotspot to leave at a remote location to access for work tonight so this would come in handy.

    • +2

Would ask in store but every time I have purchased one of these they have had at least 2GB data so…

    • Yes,I got 10 gb from the sim which is already inserted inside the device when I was unboxing.

  • +1

However , battery only can last around 4 hours for heavy usage , so you would need portable charger to charge the hotspot .

  • Can someone let me know the point in these? I don’t get it, why wouldn’t you just hotspot off your phone or tablet?

    • i don't want my battery on my phone dying so quickly. This is good for my laptop and my kids tablets.

      • yep, and if others are also using you'd need to leave your phone, this way you save your phone battery and you can walk away, take your phone and other don't get cut off.

  • Think of it as a portable wifi. Allows multiple devices to connect to the internet - especially gadgets that are wifi only.

  • the In Store Coles advert states rrp $59, on sale at $29.50 ea, connect up to to 10 devices, 5gb data, = 3gb plus 2gb bonus to use within 30 days on Telstra prepaid mobile broadband plus, activate by 26 Feb 2018.
if it comes with 10gb per a previous comment then that's even better.

thinking of this instead of hot spotting, don't want to always be charging the phone, hoping to use it to connect wifi devices on same network.
I have a Telstra data share sim in an old tablet, so will pop that in there after the supplied data runs out. (no home internet)

Does anyone know if this is as fast as using a phone to hotspot or would it have better reception and speed etc?
might save me the internet search if someone already knows.

  • Got one last year and unlock it solely for overseas travel.
IMO too few bands supported so it can be slow/ no network in some areas.
Battery last 7 hours on light use. Only serve me 2.5 trips and it died after a few days in sub zero temperature.

Just bought one. It is the MF910Z.
