also wanting to know if i can wait a few weeks to activate
Generally 30 days, but specific should be on the site or back of the sim card
Damn hoping for couple months activation expiry
@ATTS: The promo showing activate within xx days is just for special added promos (extra data or etc…). It's not the expiry date of the sim.
Each sim pakage has the sim expiry date printed on them. You will need to visit the store and check each individual sim pakage and find the sim that expires after your planned activation date.
I purchased my sim from this deal more than a month ago, and activated today. When i was in store, i spotted few sims that expires in September this year. So there may be sim that may meet your planned activation.
@Summoner: Thanks will check expiry date
Any idea which countries
Zone 1 zone 2 international minutes?Clicked the link and sent me to catalogue ?
How do u find optus as a phone carrier btw?
I had bad experiences with voda
@ATTS: Saw the back card mentioned: Activate within 30 days of purchase or by the date advertised whichever is earlier.
Just checked and saw one expire in JAN 2027. so a fair bit.
@khmerunited: Thanks though Confused if it says expire by jan 2027 or within 30 day whichever is earlier, does that mean if i dont activate within 30 days it gets expired, ending up with nothing?
@isss: The data advertised at the time of purcahse was 260GB. However, their promo at the time of activation had changed to 300GB. So i received 300GB of data instead.
@Summoner: @Summoner big win for you! called optus’s sales team earlier
their version that i cannot activate after 30 days and the expiry date supposed to just tell us the shelf life. so confusing 🙃@isss: It is very confusing. I purchased my SIM on 10 April, and it had the confusingly worded "30 days" crap printed on the back. However, I ignored that as the SIM package had the expiry date printed on it.
I then activated it on 27 May (clearly more than 30 days later) without any issue.
Isn’t this in store only? What is “Free express delivery”?
correct updated
This or boost?
I would definitely recommend Boost. Better coverage (especially in country areas) and way way wayyyyy better customer service
It depends on the areas you frequent. Optus offers a 7 days trial eSIM so you can try out the network.
Did not know about this, just tested and in my house Optus signal is about 20x better than the boost sim I’ve been struggling with for months, switching tomorrow, thanks so much for this comment!
For my situation I would say 100% Optus 5G. Metro Melbourne with commute to Docklands. I have been a long time Boost user and only recently went to Everyday mobile. The 4G performance/congestion with Everyday can get very bad. Recently I have been testing various SIMs on my secondary line and I was super impressed with the Optus (from Optus not a MVNO) SIM. Their 5G was so much more stronger than the Boost/Telstra one. My biggest gripe with Boost is that the phone tries to hang onto the 5G signal often and in a lot of places in the burbs it was a weak signal. So often it would be 1 to 0 bars signal on 5G. This is even with Telstra putting up a lot of their 5G small cells near my house. The 5G signal would drop off very quickly as soon as you turn the corner. Optus must be using some other 5G technology as their signal strength is strong and I don't see them having to put up small cells like Telstra. Here is my own ratings on what sims I have tested in the last 3 years or so.
Boost 5G/4G - 7/10. Weak 5G signal in a lot of places
Everyday 4G - 6/10. Telstra 4G prone to congestion.
Optus 5G/4G - 9/10. Exceeded expectations. For my own situation it was much better than Boost.
Amaysim 5G/4G - 8/10. Similar to Optus native, but capped speeds and slightly slower in certain situations. Still exceeded expectations.
Vodafone 5G/4G - Only activated today.
Moose Mobile 5G/4G - Plan to try this out and maybe even give up my grandfathered Everday plan when it expires and move to this in 2026.**AGAIN, these are my own usage experiences. I don't drive rural, I don't go to different corners of metro. Mainly Eastern Melbourne with a commute to the city some days
I'm having the issue with everyday 4G(grandfather plan) as well, when inside my house, I get 0-1 bar.
Now I'm looking for other option.
edit: I based Sydney
Yep, you'll find 5G reach is a lot better with Telstra/Boost but 5G speed is a lot better with Optus/Amaysim. So it begs the question, why would I need 5G reach if the speed is going to be slow? I would rather have faster 4G speed. I am thinking of going back to Optus/Amaysim as I no longer travel out of town. It is SO much better than Telstra/Boost in Metro areas. Having said that, Optus/Amaysim is garbage in Regional areas. Pick your poison.
Optus/Amaysim for Metro, Telstra/Boost for Regional.
If you're not fussed with ongoing recharges or the generous free minutes and signing up direct with Optus… Onepass (ex catchconnect) on the Optus network offers slightly better data deal for some at
$199 365 days with 360g data instead of 300g. Offer is stated to expire today. T&Cs seem to suggest you can wait 30days to activate.
great deal just no international calling.
6000 mins std international calls to Zone 1 and 800 mins to Zone 2 plus 50 std international SMS
There's international calling, just not unlimited (vs Boost)
Im talking about the onepass mobile that was suggested
it's a different product to the one H E B suggested plus no 5G
so the Coles one is a much better product
No 5G though
no 5g makes this better if 300 is enough
There is 5G but 250 mbps speed capped.
which is completely fine for a phone / tablet
They're referring to OnePass Mobile,.
But Onepass has only 4G no 5G available
Not an apples to apples comparison. Onepass is only 4G and from my own recent testing the Optus 5G is really good. Strong signal and good speeds in most places. for my situation in metro melbourne.
same in central Sydney. Unlike Vodafone, Optus 5G was a real upgrade from their 4G
Stack with the free Coles Plus Saver trial for another 10% off
According to the official Coles Plus Saver terms and conditions, the 10% discount applies to one Coles Supermarkets transaction per calendar month, but specifically excludes "Mobile and Tech Accessories (inc. plans and recharge)" from eligibility for the discount
https://www.optus.com.au/content/dam/optus/documents/cis/con…
States plan availability might change if not activated in 30 days. No mention of expiry, but that should be there on the card.
Thanks! Was gonna ask.. My current amaysim prepaid ends early July so on the lookout for next swap. I don't really need 300gb though.. So might hold out for something cheaper.
Always use a "disposable" credit card on services that require auto recharges. Or find out later the hard way!
Any suggestions?
Most ppl use revolut, can also easily cancel Wise cards in their app or on desktop. There’s also prepaid Mastercard gift cards
Optus often don't accept "disposable"
ie: prepaid giftcards etc as a payment method for recharge.Unless it has changed recently.
From experience.
You can add an Optus Sport
Prepaid Add-on
$12 for 28daysAccess to all Optus Sport content on the Optus Sport App for $12
Even for $12 i find very hard to recommend, nothing worth even if you want to see Nations League starts 4:30 am, i end up watching highlights which is available elsewhere. It's basically driving to its own grave, was so better few years back.
Can you port in from coles mobile?
Yes
You dont like coles mobile?
Coles mobile is only 4G
Seems pretty competitive atm but it was only about 6 months ago you could get 280gb for just over $100 after cashback with Optus.
This or kogan 500gb for $199? What the difference? Assuming this one get 5g and kogan is 4g only?
Kogan is 4G Vodafone network.
My kid has Kogan in Sydney. No complaints.
Can you buy these using the Coles gift card and does it count towards flybuys bonus points? Anyone know?
I bought it using Coles gift card, should count towards points but has not been updated in app yet.
Thanks mate, I did too, saved $7 +$10 in pts 👍
This or https://www.lebara.com.au/prepaid-plans/long-expiry/ $199 which includes 425GB, 4/5G, unlimited International to 50 countries and 100 min to other zone countries.
you don't get that data all at once.
Maybe it's a plus for parent who want to stop their kid(s) from chewing-up all the data within the 1st 6 months ?
Is the 300 GB split 25 GB per month? So you can't use it all at once?
Lebara is Vodafone btw. Also at this stage the Lyca might better. 600gb for 336 days (about 11 months and 10 days)at $180 https://www.lycamobile.com.au/en/bundles/sim-only-plans/#lon…
They also use vodafone.Capped at 100Mbps and similarly you don't get all the data at once. Might be too slow for some.
Maybe ALL-carriers speed-cap ~1MB/s during peak-hours & daily. Is ~1MB/s not-enough for MOST streaming & video?
Just wondering, would OW beat this price?
yes becomes $189
How to price beat at ow?
Koganmobile $199 500G better?
no international calling
Can you cancel after a year and port out your number to another carrier?
Yes
Anyone knows will Coles 10% apply to this deal? Thansk.
Yes, should work
Reminder.. you will not receive any texts while travelling overseas with Optus without paying for roaming. No other telco afaik does this - and personally can confirm no issues with Vodafone.
Is it true though? I've used amaysim and coles mobile both are MVNO of Optus and had no issues receiving txt overseas (e.g TOTP from banks)
Optus proper, not with mvno. Personal experience in Japan in Dec 2024. I contacted support who confirmed. Gave me 1 day 'complimentary' roaming then it worked.. for 1 day. Had to pay $10 for 14 days ($10 travel credit)
You're welcomed to try for yourself or contact Optus support to ask…
Is this a new thing? When I was in south america I was able to receive texts without paying extra. I was charged for sending though.
I’ve spoken with Optus and they confirmed the information above. Unfortunately, this is a dealbreaker for me.
It’s quite disappointing that customers are required to purchase a roaming package simply to receive SMS.
Thank you. No one would believe me for whatever reason
I've seen similar reports on Whirlpool to suggest the same. So you're note alone :)
Don't worry, you don't need to convince people. Just give your experience (which is nice of you to do already) and then it's up to them to find out for themselves if it's a deal breaker for them. Thank you for letting me know. I was unaware. Not sure if I'm going to go with this deal or not (I've got a few days to decide), but better that I can do so knowing this information so I can make a better decision.
This is a deal breaker for me.
Will this sim (then converted to an eSIM) work in an Apple iPad Pro for data only?
Yes
To convert to eSIM should we put in the phone first or can we directly go to Optus store and ask them to convert? Just checking because iPhone16 doesn't support physical SIM at all. THanks
Yes, you activate the SIM pack as usual, and then you can go to the Optus store for a esim.
Thanks OP. Just purchased and it expires on 20 Jan 2027
Is this true? Or 30 days from purchase?
Correction: the card expires on 20Jan 2027 but after purchasing you need to “activate within 30 days of purchase or by the date advertised on a promotion, whichever is earlier, to receive advertised inclusion.”
Whirlpool reports that transferring a number from amaysm (Optus MVNO) to Optus can be slow, with delays of up to several days sometimes. Some suggest that transferring to a non-Optus MVNO first and then back to Optus may speed things up.
I took my chances on a direct transfer and it was completed within 10 minutes of submitting the required details.
Does it support eSim?
Heads up, tried to price beat it at Officeworks Pitt St (Sydney) and they said the system wouldn’t let them.
Price match and pay over the phone then click & collect, this worked for me. 1300 OFFICE (633 423)
I had to same issue where the worker in store said that they dont price match sim cards, but I confirmed with staff at the call centre that they do.
had the same issue but calling fine
How did you do it? I called and said they couldn’t do it because they don’t have the part number from Coles website.
Just called in their phone and said they wouldn’t be able to do it as well because they need the code from the website. They said it should be on their website and not just on weekly catalogue.
Thats so odd. It actually says on their website
https://www.officeworks.com.au/information/policies/price-be…
- Record the price - This can be a catalogue clipping, screenshot on your phone, webpage or similar.
I was just down at my local coles (2164) and was able to find quite a few.

If I buy this, can I activate the service after 4 weeks. Secondly can I port my Optus postpaid service to this Optus prepaid
