  • Typo in "Pricing and Departures" - $2029 should be $2929.

Do you have to sign up just to be able to see the offer?

    • Yep. Pretty exclusive stuff.

Haha your website has some popup asking me to register, and when i close it I'm taken back to ozb. What a useless site.

Was going to try and provide some comments, but can't. Really hard to say without specifics, but $300/day for travel and hotel seems on the expensive side, but I've definitely seen worse. Personally i like doing Japan without a tour as it's safe and easy and getting around is half the fun.

Also 7 nights in Japan won't equate to a full 9 days (most likely). If you're not super keen on big cities then it's probably enough time to do the tokyo-Osaka run. If you really get your kicks in a city this will likely be far too rushed.

Japan also doesn't do gratuities. While you do get far in Japan with the foreigner card, everyone will be quite put out if you try to suggest tipping.

Gratuities is the tour guide and their people I'm guessing, not anyone in Japan per se. $300 a day is definitely on the expensive side but I guess it is promoting a full-service as opposed to do your own research, wait for discounts and self-exploring.

    • I don't get the gratuities thing either, unless the tour guides are American or something??

Flight: $1000 return all year until December
    Bullet train one way: $140
    Accommodation: $1200
Meals: $100 (7 breakfasts out of 9 meals, i'm guessing buffet breakfast at the hotel so that would be included in the accommodation cost?)
All things considered, I guess $2440 out of $3000 is not a bad deal if you aren't comfortable travelling solo.

    • We get fairly standard hotels central to the city for about 60pp. Flights, especially from the east, should be a bit shy of $1000.

      • Yeah i do the same. I was just working it out based on their criteria of a full service flight and 4 star hotels

    • +1

Sure, if you're in the demographic that uses hotels and wants to fly at particular times.

Otherwise, snag a $600 airfare and stay in a hostel..

And frankly, all of the sights included are ok at best. Golden pavilion is a good photo opportunity at the right time of the day, Meiji shrine isn't the best, Tokyo tower is like any other tower, Kiyomizu is nice.

  • Which airline?

wouldn't say its a ripping deal but still good for the lazy @OP - thanks kindly

      OzB isnt for the lazy!

exactly, would appeal to a small segment of folks :)

    Flight: $600 - $700 for full service flight i.e. Qantas/JAL
    Bullet Train: `$160
    Accomodation: 8 nights $1220 w/ Breakfast
    2 Dinners: ~$100
    Transfers: ~$100

This is all after a few minutes of searching and without any additional discounts.

Tour Guide & Gratituities = The remaining ~$700. Not sure if it is really a deal but abovementioned is travelling alone, cheaper if twin-share.

    • Haha this guy goes the extra mile! I'd give you more than +1 for that comment.

If the hotel in the package is as good as what you listed, it makes the tour seem like reasonable value for those after a very easy door to door holiday!

      • Thank you =) Actually am staying at that hotel I linked using the Booking.com deal a while back. So even with 7 nights (I linked for 8 nights) it actually works out to be only $510 per person if you're going with a partner. Given this deal is twin-share.

    • If you work it out with double everything but accommodation: $1400 for flights, $320 for bullet train $1220 for accommodation, $200 for dinner, $200 for transfers. You get $3380.

So $2929 for 2 people minus costs is actually $2478 different. That's pretty huge.

Other people have done a good breakdown, but I thought I should point out that July is one of the worst seasons to visit Japan (in my opinion). That's during the Northern hemisphere's holidays, so everything is busy. The weather is extremely hot and humid, so expect to sweat a lot.

I will point out positives of Summer, but they probably won't actually apply to this tour. First is summer in Japan is the time of festivals. There are a LOT and they are amazing to visit. But this guided tour probably doesn't give you time to visit or enjoy them. The other is hanabi (fireworks) which are plentiful in summer as well. Again, not sure if you'll see any on this tour.

I have visited Japan in all seasons, and this is my personal favourite order, winter, spring, autumn then summer.
Winter is great because everything is quite, except over New Years, snowboarding and skiing are top quality in Japan. It is cold, but I personally enjoy that.
Spring is obviously good for the sakura (cherry blossoms), and they're beautiful to see. The weather is still cold, but warming up from winter. But there are a LOT of tourists. This is the busiest season by far, and hordes are Chinese are everywhere in Tokyo and other popular cities.
Autumn is very pleasant temperature wise, it was the best while I visited. The autumn leaves did not last long but they were pretty to see. Tourism is pretty low still so sites are quiet. You can also visit some festivals and there are school culture festivals on during this time if you're brave enough to try them. (Japanese needed.)
Summer I listed pros and cons above.

Sorry, big post but someone may get use out of my experiences travelling Japan.

    • Thanks for the detailed comment. Really appreciated!

    • Always found May or October to be good times. Can recommend Fukuoka if you wanna be inundated with hordes of Chinese or Korean, pretty much all year round.
