Its unpretentious, meat and potatoes pop rock, at a time when rock has become fairly twee and self reverential.
Their music isnt really any different from what Matchbox 20 or Collective Soul or even U2 did before them.however nickelback kept doing it long after that kind of music became unfashionable.
On the other hand, the fact that they are the only band out there playing radio friendly rock ballads means that they have made a crap ton of money.

At the risk of sounding controversial, I like Nickelback - Especially this album. And I can't stand most of Bowie, Dylan and Prince. Bowie and Prince have a couple of zingers, but Dylan is 100% whining on and on and on.
