      $49.99

    • +4

Normally it isn't available at Aldi. The cheapest I could find on eBay was around $52

        • +36

Why don't you go and find it out yourself then if you are pretty sure ?

        • How are you sure on that? You've looked back through OzB Aldi specials for the last 12 months? If so, then I guess you know the 'normal' price.

    • +15

People complain about JV, but it is a valid point, why is this considered a deal? An example price would help people make a decision before purchasing.

      • +3

why is this considered a deal?

Some people believe they can just post anything in an Aldi catalogue without having to justify why it is a bargain.

        • +15

It is the other way around. I have seen that you have issues with people posting anything here at OZB. Why don't you take some time off and relax a bit?

        • +1

          @jv: debatable

        • -4

          @sbrulz:

          debatable

you can debate all you like, but you still won't know why I posted unless I tell you.

        • -3

          @jv:

Nope, just posting comments, not issues.

lol. Making an issue out of not making issues.

          Irony Level-6 unlocked ;)

        • Because it's good and cheap compared to other chairs, doesn't have to be compared with itself.

        • -2

          @Zondor:

"Because it's good and cheap compared to other chairs"

No mention of that by the OP in their post.

      • +13

Its a limited time deal for a cheaper price then you can find elsewhere.

Ozbargain is full of limited time deals, permanent price reductions etc.

Think of Aldi like clearance products.

If you know another $50 chair that is equal or better, post it and put a neg, thats how ozbargain works.

        • +4

for a cheaper price then you can find elsewhere.

where is that in the description or title to justify this as a bargain?

        • +6

          thats how ozbargain works.

Nope, you are required to post bargains, not random catalogue items without justification…

"Summarise briefly why it is a bargain - why did you buy it or consider it worth sharing? How does the price compare to elsewhere? Can you comment from personal experience on the quality of the product?"

          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/help:deal_posting_guidelin…

It's not the responsibility of the people commenting to justify this is a bargain, it is up to the person posting

        • +2

          @jv:

While you are right about that, most people don't do that, even if it doesn't happen you have your own need as an ozbargainer to prove it as well.

Don't whine and complain, post where it is cheaper elsewhere.

If you are unable to find where its cheaper elsewhere, then OP is correct

The only time this isn't relevant is for uninteresting items that nobody wants.

This is an office chair that appears to be the cheapest in Australia, at least until you change that

        • @jv:
          $49.99 answers them all.

"Bargain does NOT play the mark up and discount game does NOT mean it is NOT a bargain."—S.B.

        • @samfisher5986:

While you are right about that, most people don't do that,

They should… thus my opening comment.

        • @DoyA:

Bargain does NOT play the mark up and discount game

          Thus why we vote.

But that doesn't excuse the OP from not mentioning

"why it is a bargain - why did you buy it or consider it worth sharing?"

        • +2

          @jv:

I'm still waiting for you to post a better or equal $50 chair.

Until that happens OP is right.

        • @samfisher5986:

Until that happens OP is right.

          It’s the other way around

He's posted a deal to share with everyone.

You are just whining and contributing nothing.

        • @samfisher5986:

He's posted a deal to share with everyone.

But hasn't qualified why they considered this was a deal.

          What is the saving?

        • @samfisher5986:

You are just whining and contributing nothing.

I'm actually discussing the 'supposed' deal, you are not… You are just whining and contributing nothing.

          @jv:
"why it is a bargain", when it is not something so special than people have no idea how cheap would make it a bargain, ppl do need to explain. But, chair? man?

        • @DoyA:

ppl do need to explain. But, chair? man?

Many people upvote deals they don't intend to buy.

    • But but this chair is cheaper than the Herman Miller Aeron chair right?

    • always interesting to read jv's comment, great way to improve your debating skills.

It typically just makes me regret the couple mins I lost…

metal legs on the Aldi one looks nicer IMO

    • +1

The Mondrian chair is twice the price. The only review on it isn't good.
I bought the Aldi chair last time. It's excellent value for money.
It's sturdy and comfortable. Looks much more expensive.

  • time to stock up for this

  • -8

Wow a whole year warranty. Good stuff….

    • +17

It’s a $50 office chair, were you expecting a lifetime warranty??

    • Isn’t a year warranty a standard in Aus? I buy Australian, „quality”, rather pricey stuff - I get only a year warranty.

    • +1

If it breaks the ACL should protect you as a chair should last longer than a year.

      • -1

        a $50 chair, really?

Whats next, $2 items from bargain city should last 3 years?

        • Dude, It's a chair that's being bought new. Sure, it's $50, but that should be reflected in lack of comfort, not it needing to be replaced every second year.

As for your bargain city comment, that depends on the product. It's not reasonable to expect most $2 items to last 3 years, but depending on the item, it might be reasonable to expect it to last that long.

          Also, I don't understand why you're comparing a $50 product to a $2 one.

        • @BradleyDS2:

Thats not the wording for statutory warranty.

The price and expected quality is an important part of it.

        • @samfisher5986: So when you spend $50 on a chair, it's reasonable to you to expect it to be broken the next year?

A $50 chair breaking after a year is a major failure, meaning replacement, repair or refund.
If I bought the chair, I'd expect it to last longer than a year or two, and if I knew it wouldn't, then I wouldn't buy it in the first place and I'd spend my $50 on something else and get another chair.

A major failure means that you wouldn't have bought the product if you'd known about the issue beforehand.

        • -1

          @BradleyDS2:

You need to do more research, thats not how it works at all.

You wont' find that wording in any official documentation.

        • @samfisher5986: "A product or good has a major problem when:
          * it has a problem that would have stopped someone from buying it if they’d known about it"

"When you have a major problem with a product, you have the right to ask for your choice of a replacement or refund."
          Taken directly from the ACCC

As I stated earlier, if the chair fails after a year, then there's a big problem, and I wouldn't buy the chair if I knew that's the case. I'm not going to buy the chair since I know about that problem now.

As for the wording, I've done my research, please explain what won't you find in any official documentation.

        • @BradleyDS2:

It also mentions minor problems can be repaired as well.

What they don't mention is anything close to something that could be related to, a $50 chair is expected to last many years and is still under statutory warranty.

As someone who has spoken to them about this exact issue, you are taking a few things they are saying and applying it in black and white to everything.

Except their wording about statutory warranty is not black and white and there is no 100% formula to determine it.

You can express you believe its under statutory warranty and if they don't take your word for it, which they often won't in situations like these, then you will need to take action and you will find out if its covered.

A $50 chair which is half the price of normal chairs of its type and considered a cheap generic brand is not something you can say "yes thats definitely covered"

      • +1

Don't tell these guys, they think they are lucky getting a whole year already….

  • +20

Owned this, cushion will be flat within a week if used everyday.

    • +6

I agree I've been using it for a year bought it last year and it's pretty good.

the fabric has not worn off in spite of daily use.

Metal legs look beautiful, great value for money. No comparable chair at this price anywhere

      • +8

        You mean you disagree?

      • what @witsa said — did you mean to agree or disagree with JAKEBAB? : )

    • -4

May be weight dependent. If you're 80 kg it should be fine.

      • i'm 80kg. cushion is flat.

      • +2

nope - not weight dependent. Am 72 - it took around 1-2 month for cushion to flatten.
Used around 10-15 hours a week.

        • Maybe my model from two years ago has a different cushion.

    • +33

Had this for almost 2 years and used it approx. 20hrs/week during uni and 1hr/week during uni or semester breaks. I'm 72kg and cushion does get flat overtime but not to the point where it will bother you. I actually prefer a seat with less cushion.
One thing I did notice is that it holds in farts for a longer period of time.

      • +1

Do you stick your nose to the seat? How do you know this?

        • +18

I put my cat on it and he started sniffing it. Other chairs he hasn't done that.

        • @gezza90: lmao did not expect that answer, good test!!!!

        • +8

@gezza90: Ah yes, the ever reliable cat scan!

      • I just fold a sheet to cushion it, it does start to get a little uncomfortable without it, this is if you're using 8+hrs.

The base is good quality and gives you good stability, the old $40 from Officeworks got wobbly.

For $50 I find it to be great

    • +1

I got it two years ago, I assembled it, used 10-20 hrs in total (I don’t need a chair), looks and works like new. Hope that helps.

    • thanks for the info i was about to buy it

  • +2

Awesome, I might line up and get one.
My chair is old and I barely have to use it anymore, so I reckon this will do the job.

    • +1

Thanks. I’ll wait on a buro chair sale.

  • +6

Bought one last year. The seat cushion is quite rigid and thin and you can't really adjust it very much. It looks fancy but it's actually quite basic.

    • Ah dammit. I had high hopes for this. Wanted try it out before I bought it though which would be hard to do that Saturday 8:30AM. Maybe I'll bring my tools.

      • +1

you can always try it for 60 days and return it?

        • I don't know if I wanna be one of those people that come back to return something and push in line when the cashier is swiping items through.

        • +1

@nuffjah: I always wait in line

    • +2

But more importantly, how does it compare to other $50 chairs?

      • +3

Generally most $50 office chairs are exactly the same….crap!

        • +3

Sounds like you need to wipe better before sitting down.

  • +1

    Good chair for the price.

White stains don't come off easily though

    • +4

What are you doing to get white stains on… Never mind, I don't really want to know!

      • +2

Toothpaste… it happens all the time !

      • +2

Get your mind off the gutter, hotmustardsauce is clearly talking about liquid paper stains

      • +2

It's anything but hot mustard sauce.

      • +2

        Eating yogurt at the computer

  • +22

    Maximum recommended weight: 120kg

So effectively useless for 90+% of OzBargainers.

  • +2

I have this from last year when it was on sale in Aldi. The back support isn't great and the cushion is rigid. barely used it for a week, and started gathering dust since then.

    • +5

      started gathering dust since then

Sounds like it's quite an attractive chair

  • +1

Looking for an home office chair, and not interested in this Aldi one nor that other ergohuman/buro/aeron that everyone raves about, and neither the akracing ones (too gamey), really hard to find reviews on anything else,
    so my short list ATM:
    IKEA's Cloth markus at $250
    secretlabchairs's OMEGA 2018 at $500
officeworks Kennedy $350 or harvard $250

    Thoughts/advice?
