          I went (many) years ago. For me, Washington wasn't much but Smithsonian and the other museums were great, and the Amish are worth a visit.

          You are only a few hours away from NYC as well.

    Washington DC is dismal these days.

    SO many foreign press crowding the streets, because of Trump.
    Too much security everywhere especially in government buildings. Hate having to wait in lines to get to the gift shop.
    Capitol Police are also douchebags who come up to you if you don't look like you've had a shower.
    The food is also dismal and protesters are always in large numbers.

    Next time my manager tells me to go to DC, I'm going to tell him to give me diplomatic status.

      We were there in mid January and it was great. Did a tour of the capital building and had no dramas. The visitor Centre cafe was great. People friendly enough. We all had showers though. Newseum was also pretty good.

          @uggugg: i took BoltBus which was really comfortable, free wifi and much cheaper than the train.

        We got the train between NYC and DC. Easy. Best way to travel for that sort of distance imho.

        Don't get the bus that far. Traffic at the NYC end will add another hour (most likely). Get the train. Also, train then don't suffer the usual crappy delays which most of the flights do

        2014 I took train NY Penn Station to Chicago, journey delayed by incidents along the way, accident etc… Amtrak has bad reputation among the locals, they're always late. Luckily I was on holiday,so enjoyed the scenery! Don't take train if time is tight or get stressed easily.

      The Amtrak Train is definitely the way to go, drops you off at Penn Station Manhatten.
