SIGNMEUP30

Saw this awesome post and started searching for flights on IWTF. Surprised to see they're actually available at almost $100 less by booking via an OTA like Aunt Betty etc. If you're not comfortable with doing this, you can always screenshot the fare and get Flight Centre to beat it by $1. Good luck and enjoy :)

      Agreed, I even upvoted.

Jeepers I paid that in fees + 60000 points

Gee, that Sakura over Mt.Fuji picture has become more regular than anything else on this forum.

    • +1

I believe that's the JR pass pic? Or it reminds me of it.

      • Where is the Shinkansen?

        • +1

I think he means it's the pic on the JR pass/JR promo pamphlets. Presumably reflects the view they're saying you'd get from their trains :P

        • @superzipp:

Yep. Thanks for clearing that up!

        • +3

          @superzipp:
You won't get a view quite like that from the shinkansen. Mt Fuji is visible, but it is a fair distance from the train. Most of the photos with the shinkansen in the foreground and Mt Fuji in the background are shot with very long lenses to give a false sense of closeness.

        • +3

@mister_snrub: That shot would just about have to be taken from Lake Kawaguchiko

Go there! there is a cool theme park near by!

  • +7

anyone booking today (as I did) remember there's double status points offer on Qantas at the minute. bumped my flights from 70 point to 140!

    • +1

do you still get the status points when booking with an OTA?

      • Yes, you do. As long as the PNR is registered in the Qantas system by the end date of the promotion. Most OTAs will ticket within 24 hours, some instant.

    • +1

I think you need to register for the offer.

      • +2

You do, but can still register. OzBargain post here

"Book an eligible Qantas operated flight between 1 February and 5 February 2018, for travel from 12 February 2018 to 20 January 2019."

There's a link in that post to register for FF program free for anyone not registered.

Any details on this offer? booking atm

      Edit: Thanks !

  • Nice discovery :D

Better deal than Jetstar. All the essential extras on Jetstar ended up costing around the same.

    • +2

In my case they were all non-essential.
I just gotta keep reminding myself that now…

    • +1

Really? Extras is like 160 luggage is it for return? So that'll be like 550? Jetstar is still alright.

      • +4

Don't forget, besides meals and luggage, you get entertainment, snacks and unlimited beverages including wine. Not only that, you fly direct unlike jetstar, you need to stop over at cairns if departing from Sydney. It's a no brainer if anyone thinks jetstar is better cos it's a little cheaper.

        • +2

I remember a Qantas flight late December 2016 Brisbane to Tokyo. A plane was less then half full and I had two seats at the window at my use. A very friendly flight attendant served me 6 cans of Kirin beer during the flight… And I didn't ask her… She was bringing me more and more after each empty can… Such a nice memories.

      • I looked at August-September with luggage and decent seats which ended up being $600-$680. Also entertainment isn't included and has a Cairns stop over.

        • In reply to the above comment as well, does Jetstar provide free entertainment too?

        • @PeeDee: Nope gotta pay for it. Jetstar cheap out on everything.

        • @Clear:

          Ok. You sold me

        • @Clear:

What about meals? That is a necessity

        • @PeeDee: 99% certain but would need to check.

        • +2

@PeeDee: All you get is a crappy earphone. Everything else cost extra. Meal, Drinks, Entertainment, Check-in luggage, Pick your own seat, amenity pack…
          (toilet still free fortunately)

        • @nbn:

Wow that really sucks. They even charge you for meals considering how long the flight is. Guess it's pretty much the same price as Qantas

        • +4

          @nbn:
          "(toilet still free fortunately)"

Jetstar please don't see this comment…

        • @nbn:

I think you can get your own entertainment. You have everything you need on your phone, bring charger your done or read a book. As for food you can bring your own…

    • Completely agree, booked jetstar because it was cheap and we were packing light, but otherwise it’s 100% worth it to go with QANTAS, especially at these prices.

      • I don't even fly Jetstar on my regular 1hr fly ins. No leg room and Virgin/Qantas give me free evening snacks and wine with the latter.

Now I gotta convince the other half to go to Japan.

  • Hey TA, how do you get an putput of low prces + travel dates like this from IWTF?

  • +8

Get $30 off with SIGNMEUP30 at Aunt Betty

    • Thanks champ. Added to OP :)

  • noooooo the dates :(

  • Can people please give a review of their experiences with the following OTA's?
    - BudgetAir
    - Aunt Betty
    - Tripsta
    - iFly
    - Bestjet
    - Pricebeat
    - mytrip
    - Flyfar
    ?

Sorry first time I'm looking at the OTA's who have it at such a crazy price - do you think they will honor it?

    • BestJet are great and usually ticket immediately. Others may take a few hours to ticket but you'll generally have no problems, assuming you don't need to make any changes at all. Honouring shouldn't be a problem as this is a legit QF sale.

    • +1

i think majority of them, if you don't make changes once you booked, they are ok.

    • +1

      AuntBetty is owned by FligthCentre

    • +1

Booked once with Auntbetty, smooth sailing as I didn't have any issue. The real test would be when you have an issue (such as date change, etc.) and how easy they are to deal with.

  • Aunt Betty is owned by FlightCentre, also keep in mind that Flight Centre ask for $49 booking fee per ticket.

  • Hummm….. Misses is busy.

Anyone have experience travelling Japan alone? I can only speak bad English :)

    • +7

I loved travelling throughout Japan alone. You'll have no issues.

      • :D hope there are tickets left when I get home today!

Apr to Nov, when would be the best time to go?

      • -1

It's cheaper with more than one cause booking for stays are expensive.

    • +6

Japan is probably one of the best countries to solo travel, and in fact, I just booked a solo trip a couple of days ago. The people are wonderful and it’s extremely safe. Lack of Japanese isn’t much of an issue. Just be sure to learn a couple of phrases - it goes a long way.

      • It's cheaper with more than one cause booking for stays are expensive.

        • Staying at capsules should fix that? Lol

        • As with any country. I’ll be sure to even check out a capsule hotel

        • @Circly: actually I've always 2anted to try that! :D

    • +7

that's ok … Japanese don't speak must English either

    • +2

I had no problems, found most people very helpful and friendly. It helps when you try some basic words at least.
Take a translation book or app and it should help when stuck.

11 hour layover in Sydney…hmmm. I'd do it in a nice airport like Singapore but not something in Australia.

    • You could always buy a Qantas lounge pass from someone (going price is around $50) to make it a bit more comfortable.

      • Thats 100 for two and theres also a layover on the way back…I'd rather buy a direct flight from Singapore airlines considering the extra cost

  • Anyone got the dates for later in the year? Or should I wait? Wanting to book for the new year…

  • -7

    Neg me here, thanks

    • +1

      Got confused and upvoted you

      • Upvotes here thanks 😂👍

      • Thanks :) You are the only nice one

  • +2

OP: you may want to check this out
    https://www.qantas.com/travel/airlines/price-promise/global/…

Qantas will price match if the website you book is Australian company with ABN. You need to take screenshot of the lower price and submit it the SAME day as you book your tickets.

It is not a good idea to go to Flight Centre for price match because you will get rip-off if you have to change your flight with their ridiculous fee on top of Qantas change fee. It's best to book direct with Qantas and use a small amount gift voucher + remaining paid with credit card to avoid cc fee.

    • has this worked for anyone yet? :)

      • +2

Yes, I have done it 4 times, price matched with Bestjet.

  • Nice, works through Amex too just $673.86 for 23rd of April to 5th of May, there was something funky though I found it at first then change the dates and I couldn't get it again, I managed to get it again by opening an anonymous window…

    • Oldest trick in the book when it comes to flights all those sites and even the airlines themselves will do it, always hunt for prices in incognito mode or at work then switch to normal mode or home once you've found the deal (or buy the deal straight away)

  • this might be a dumb question but what dates are available for adelaide to get the $605/$618 not sure how to search for them.

  • +1

    I like Japan. Japan good

    • what good japan there?

      • mountain good japan food good osaka phat sumo wrestler

  • Same flight I booked last week is $50 cheaper this week. I don't think this works for the price promise unfortunately.

  • Will this work over the school holidays?

  • Someday I'll try flying a full service airline to see if they're all they're cracked up to be, but for now getting $350 return to Japan was too good with Jetstar.

  • Great deal!

Any way of using this deal with my $450 AmEx Ultimate Qantas flight credit? I want to fly MEL>NAR in June.

  • Where's a good place to look for accomodation deals in Japan?

  • Anything cheap around late march? couldnt find anything

  • any cheap flights late aug- to mid sep? bris to narita or osaka?>

  • Flight centre won't price match or beat anymore. They charged me $100 extra last time.

    • really? can some else confirm this is true?
