What are the conditions? Is there a code?

Never mind, found a 99 cent code: GPPT02K500

Apply in cart after registering an account.

    • Auto applies code at checkout. 99c for the first year. That's it I believe!

      • It doesn't auto-apply, see above comment. At least for me.

        • Apologies, it worked for me but must've been through a paid ad on BING lol

  • There is a 60-day transfer lock. So you can't transfer the domain to another provider.

    • Does it matter? You have the domain for 365 days so can transfer after that?

      • +1

        It depends on the circumstance

  • Damn it. Just registered a domain.

    • Try contacting support :)

Don't use GoDaddy - the worlds most untrustworthy registrar, an absolute bunch of [insert profanity here].

    • +2

Care to elaborate? I have had a few domains registered with them and had no issues.

      • +1

They love to take part in domain tasting, charging people for services such as WHOIS Guard after a domain has been transferred, and a bunch of other scummy practices.

If you search for GoDaddy reviews you'll understand why and most web-developers will avoid them like the plague.

    • How?

      • Tl:dr; cheap service. Shit support. Controversial.

My experience with then is far from their worst offence, but annoyed me enough to never use them again and move all my domains away.

Before I had this experience I already started getting a hatred for GoDaddy due to their lure in with cheap initial registration then expensive registration from then on, expensive whois protection, etc. 0.99c may seem cheap, but changing registrars cost more (time, effort, etc) than the savings you'll ever get on that registration. And you'll one day want to change if history is anything to go by.

Anyway, my story (as foolish as it is). Had a son and thought "gotta get his domain name" so off I go to GoDaddy and search - bugger, .com taken, no issue I'll grab some others and decide which to keep later and then grab the .com if/when it becomes available ({firstname}{lastname}.com) being "super smart (so I think)" I PAY GoDaddy for a domain backorder so they'll register the domain for me should it expire. Anyway, time goes by and the old registrant lets it expire, I'm rubbing my hands with excitement - but then I wait, and wait, no word from GoDaddy.. I check the whois, voila, new owner GoDaddy, set price US$1700. WTF? FU GoDaddy!

This domain name had no real value other then to someone with that first & last name (not a popular name combo at all).

I read about these type of stories often and I'm a sceptic and I'd always think "there's more to it" or "sounds far fetched", but then this sh!t happened to me and I started to believe all the way out there GoDaddy stories..

6 years on and still don't have that domain, just checked again and still owned by GoDaddy and asking USD $884 (so price has dropped over time). But I'll never do business with them again.

I'd avoid GoDaddy for domain registration, they're scumbags. Stick with someone like Namecheap :-)

    • +1

I second that. Namecheap is where it's at!

    plus 9% cashrewards

  • I have had my domain and email with them for a few years and haven't had any problems with service or support, I do only gripe at the price of renewals.

Looking for more than one? Create more accounts. They are pretty bad but cant beat 99c.. I just transfer to uniregistry after the year they have better renewal prices
