Annalisa Peeled Tomatoes 400g X 24 - $12 (50c Per Can) @ Woolworths

1260

Pretty sure this is a price error. Usual price for 24 tins is $24. Which is also the price for the diced tomatoes.

Get in quick whilst it's still on. Price is for online shopping. Not sure what the in-store price is.

Same price for Chick Peas x12 and Lentils x12

    • +6

      24 vs 12 cans.

      • +1

Just realised, hence why I added the x12.

        • So 1 for $1 or 12 for $12 what's your point?

    • +1

Q: What's the difference between a chick pea and a kidney bean?
A: I've never paid to have a kidney bean on my chest.

Thank god they didn’t omit one of the “n”s

  • Thanks OP, just grabbed some 🙂

pay the extra and get Australia tomatoes from Aldi, better quality and supports Australian farmers 95c I think

    • +22

Which the profits go to Germany..

      • +15

        But Aussie farmers get money

      • Probably some Rothschild families

        • +4

          Albrecht family.

      • +19

Aldi get a very very small amount and most of that pays for the Australia workers in their stores and offices etc. the tins are produced by SPC so it supports keeping the Australian factory open and uses Australia grown tomatoes supporting our farmers not china or where ever those tomatoes really some from (according to the reports they are likely not grown in Italy but dumped into Italy and sold as Italian)

        • +6

I just want to buy tomato and dont care about this sh*t

        • +14

@stan-C: That's why supermarkets can sell us the rejected food from overseas, because people will bend over and take it to save 20 cents.

        • +6

          @stan-C:

Then you can buy wherever you want to, nobody stopping you bud.

        • +8

          I disagree.

Whole peeled (pelati) are the actual stuff, as italian stallion as it gets. By law.
Diced, puree, juice, passata, concentrate, etc=90% chinese, even if made in italy.

Also, you can support Aussie farmers but they are allowed use pesticides that got banned over 20 years ago in Italy.

          mamma mia

          @stan-C:
Good on ya Stan. That's the way.
If your ever in Shepparton or Orange or indeed Tenterfield make sure you drop in to the local tomato growers and have a chat about your sh*t you don't care about.

Your fellow Australians who happen to be farmers will be enthralled by your reasoning.

Im curious about these dumping reports; could you provide a source? I can see theres an article about ASDA european supermarkets in connection with tomato concentrate, but I cant find anything about Annalisa, or in relation to AUS imports

        • Actually these are Italian or so the can says, they have more fruit weight compared to the Aldi cans…

        • +1

@Dne: Thanks very much for the links; very handy and concerning to know

          @3252900sl:

This has been an ever on-going battle for Australian producers. A quick google search (took me al of 3 secs. to find the various news reports).

          https://www.google.com.au/search?q=dumping+of+italian+tinned…

Even my (now Italian ex-wife) used to say that many Italian products such as tinned tomatoes are cheaper here that in Italy. Olive oil used to get dumped here too, much of which had dubious origins, not necessarily Italian, despite the branding. Much of it was stale old warehouse stocked and dumped in Australia thanks to EC subsidies. (Thank heavens Australian consumers finally caught onto locally produced olive oils and discovered what fresh olive oil really taste like.

Even at $1.00 a can, these tomatoes @ Woolworths, shipped from the other side of the planet, are still likely to be dumped product despite punitive tariffs. I try and support local producers, even on my pension, I ask if the 20c or so saving is really worth it. Having lived and worked overseas in many countries, my first appreciation is the quality and freshness of local product and how lucky we are to have it a mostly reasonable prices. The alternative is unbearable to think about.

Thanks for this, I'm all for supporting our people/farmers, will get the Aldi ones then.

    • +2

Up to 87% of undamaged, edible tomatoes harvested from a commercial Queensland farm were rejected and wasted based on appearance, a study has found, highlighting the problem of food wastage.

    • +4

Further to this, Italian tomato farmers have been implicated in slave labour.

You're basically buying sweat shop tinned tomatoes.

      • +5

And further to this the miles on these tomatoes means that a crapload of fossil fuels have also been burned to get them to the other side of the world

    • +2

      But but but … OZB 50c > 95c …

  • Just checked my local store. Doesn't appear that they stock the Bundle.

  • Excellent price, I'll look out for this.

  • +3

Thanks OP. Spent over $50 on these to take advantage of the CR $8 cashback today.

    • +2

Whoa! 120 tins in one hit? U must really like tomatoes. 🍅😅

    • +3

Ok sir, cut up a large onion, 2 sticks of celery and 2 carrots. Mix with 2 tins of tomatos and a 45cent french onion soup mix in a good size tray. Salt and pepper 1kg-1.5kg y-bone steaks and put half the tomato mix on top once in the pan. Bake till falling off bone, serve on mash potato.

If anyeat and sauce remains use a fork to break that meat up, use sauce and meat as a pasta sauce the following night.

It's so good I urge you to try it.

Edit: they are whole you will need to chop obviously.

order 3 cases of 24 for $36 you little beauty! i was going to buy Cirio next weekend and they are about 80cents each

you saved me $21.60 - which i will use to buy lots of passata :)

btw CIRIO is my favourite brand.

    • Cirio at 80 still good

  • Wth, still $12 for me.. just added 2 my cart @9.50am..

  • Does any know if the Annalisa brand is ring pull? ;-)

    • yes it is

  • Is it ethical to take advantage of price errors?

    • Why worry, there is usually a clause in the fine print on online sites which allows the store to cancel price error orders.

    • How do we know it is a price error? It may be a genuine offer to get rid of excess stock. I shouldn't worry, it's not as if they'll be making a huge loss on this. 50c is probably around their cost price anyway.

    • +1

      Yes. Woolworths are massive.

  • +1

Annalisa is a great brand, the very best tomatoes, sorry about the local brands but most often they are of poor colour and underipe before canning. I support most other Australian food products with pride but canned tomatoes - no!.

  • +1

If it was Xiaomi cans at 2 cents each nobody would think of dear, old, poor aussie farmers.

  • +3

    Back to $24

  • expired

  • picked up 72 cans yesterday, apparently they sell them at COSTCO for around 80-85cents, so 50cents in a steal
