        • hehe I usually go OJ…I'm sure it'll still full of sugar but it feels like it's healthy…

    • +3

A single whopper has 56% of the entire day's recommended fat content, 60% saturated fat, 30% cholesterol, 37% salt.
      That's without cheese.
Being pre-diabetic you should be avoiding foods like this entirely, go get a 6 inch subway and some water instead. Eating light and exercising makes you feel healthy and energetic. Good luck, from one pre-diabetic to another!

      • I try to eat healthy but it's so tough.

      • +2

        This is misleading.

Unless your doctor has specifically mentioned that foods high in fat, cholesterol or salt are a problem for you, its not a problem.

The general rule is to eliminate sugar, heavily reduce refined carbs, and reduce carbs in general.

The problem in a whopper is the bun (refined carbs and sugar) and the sauce (sugar)

        • No ketchup…just sauce, raw sauce

      • Yes Subway is the only fast food place I recommend people and only the vege sub with low fat dressing and no cheese. It is quite expensive thou.

        • +2

Hi @freemoneyhunter, did you know you can swap in veggie patties into any of our burgers?!

    • +1

I am diabetic, type 1, insulin dependent.

I eat HJs all the time… Probably not a good thing. But I eat burgers and relatively low sugar food.

If you are type 2 or heading there then back off on sugars a no juices, soft drinks, lollies, etc. You want low GI stuff too, so more fibre and less quick acting stuff like rice, or complicated fats like cheese.

      • How did you get type 1? I read type 2 is caused by too much fat, not sugar. It is insulin resistance, the body produces plenty sometimes as much as twice the normal amount but the cells start to ignore the insulin because of too much fat in the system. I don't know a great deal about type 1, at least you would know much more than I. I follow a vegetarian low fat diet, a vegetarian diet can help with type 1. I don't want to tell you what to do, but you shouldn't be eating at fast food places. Link below for your own interest.

"Type-1 diabetes is caused by destruction of the insulin-producing cells of the pancreas. While it isn’t curable, the risk of complications can be greatly reduced with the McDougall Program."

        https://www.drmcdougall.com/health/education/health-science/…

        • +1

Type 1 is more hereditary. Well it is for me, my father died of type 1. Eating fast food is not good in general I guess, the main issues I find is that refined sugars like soft drinks will be processed too quickly and fats go slow. Both pose a problem as the fast acting insulin typically lasts for an hour.

So if you eat inappropriate foods then you'll either go high or low.

    Phone is fine.

  • +4

The increased prices are a deal breaker.

    • Where else are you going to find a good deal?

      • +6

$2 Mcdoubles all day all night my man

    • Prices are still superior to competitors, as are some of the burgers. If you aren't prepared to eat at HJ's at these prices, you were never going to in the first place so nothing lost for them.

  • +8

Hungry jacks - hungry to jack the price. Don't get greedy HJ, it's the best thing about you compared to Maccas!

    • +3

And the burgers are better at HJs 😊

    • +2

      Cool story bro.

      • +8

        Phone is fine.

    • +4

      its a massive 2900kj.

    • +2

Is that high or low for sugar…?

      • +3

When I did the calculations, it's actually a lot lower than what I expected. I thought my maths didn't add up!
However, as you said, the 2900 kJ is massive.

        • +1

If you look at absolute value there is 8.6grams of sugar, which is a bit more than a teaspoon. But I guess that is not surprising for a whopper. There is some sugar in the buns but that's it.

There is 40grams fat which is more than 50% of RDI. There is also 53.7grams of carbohydrates in total which would probably be refined carbs which rapidly get converted to sugar. So infact it would be closer to having 53.7grams of sugar.

It would get my extremely high energy content and extremely high fat content warnings.

        • +1

@Gimli: Yes, you're absolutely right. My calculations were based only on amount of each of fat and sugar as a percentage of the net weight of the burger, which is not a perfect comparison.
A percentage of RDI though would lead to mind blowing results as you've stated.

        • +1

          @MathNerd:
I think our food labelling laws are too weak. Because even if you get given some nutritional information it takes to much time to actually work out what it means.

Many south american countries such as chillie have big label warning's on foods which are to high in energy, fat or sugar so you don't need to waste time when you are shopping etc.

        • +1

@Gimli: That's great. They must have governments/food lobbies that care about the constituent's health there.

        • @MathNerd: governments with guts to stand up to food lobby. Having said that there is all sorts of other problems with their governments.

If you made a burger at home by making yourself a nice meat patty and using tomato sauce you would probably end up with similar values.

      • Not far off. Although at home you could use light mayo (which is far tastier anyway) and save yourself some unnecessary salt and sugar by using low salt/sugar ketchup. In addition, it'd be made with love and a pan rather than underpaid teenagers with microwaves.

        • +2

Light mayo is pointless, there is nothing wrong with regular mayo, most of them don't add sugar.

Also the bacon deluxe doesn't have ketchup or anything sugary added, thats why I order it without the bun.

The whopper does however, just ask for no sauce or ask for mayo instead.

        • Disagree that light mayo tastes better. It tastes so bad that I'd prefer just to have no mayo whatsoever. HJs mayo tastes incredible.

    • so 14% fat … that is 1/2 the fat of corn chips ……and less fat that in a meat pie or sausage …… 3.07 % sugar is lower than most pasta sauces , much lower than nutri grain ……

all depends what else you have with the burger e.g have it with no mayo, diet drink and keep chips small.

Mega clear photo, OP. Previous vouchers posted looked like they were taken with a potato.

Looked on HJ website but could not find a pdf and don’t have a scanner.

If someone finds a pdf version I’ll be happy to change URL (or mods can update)
