TBH, I actually got some decent stuff each single time from the 20% off tech sale. This time I am gonna do the same thing again and make some profit by reselling the items that I have already targeted. LOL

  • Can anyone find a cheap wireless USB 802.11ac adaptor from one of these retailers?

  • +2

I came here just for the price jacking comments :O

but wow, so many people here up so late, Ozinsomnia?

  • +1

4 days for the retailers to decide how much price to raise?

  • Fingers crossed for cheap ssd, but from what I've seen it's just cheaper on individual specials when there isn't some price-jacked 20% blanket promo

  • +2

the stores have 4 days to prepare price jacking

  • +9

It's not the amount of profit the stores make during these sales that people are objecting to, it's the consistent deceptive conduct.

    https://www.accc.gov.au/media-release/kogan-pays-32400-penal…

    • +1

$32k would be less than the cost of their lawyers.

It's sad that "deception" is used when selling goods and services but on the other hand there's supply and demand. If demand increases so does price. It's how our market works - basic economics.

      • +2

However, under fair trading rules, you can't increase your price right before a sale then declare "20% off". This is deceptive conduct.

Dell actually used to do this. Years ago, I took a gamble on buying a computer from them, then hauling them in front of the ACCC. In the end, they gave me the percentage discount on the original price after being advised of their obligations. Soon afterwards, they stopped the price jacking.

We just need a few people to go through the hassle of reporting price jacking, get a few fines handed out, and the practice will stop.

  • +1

The B6AC Version 2 battery charger is $69 delivered at Hobby_Warehouse. Let's see what the price is going to be when the sale starts. Archive

  • -3

I think all of the comments on price jacking are harsh. But either way, this 20% off tech is really boring because it's on so frequently. So we'll get some deals on the Sony and Bose headphones and then the obligatory Dell XPS 13 deal. It just clogs up ozbargain with the same deals all the time.

    • So you're saying the advertising is working

  • +4

Weird how people post that they are bored with ebay 20% off sales. Didn't realise they were designed to keep people entertained.

    • +2

      are you not entertained?!

  • +9

Melbourne Electronic was in the last sale and I believe I am getting scammed by them.

They said they shipped my item but it never arrived. No answer to calls or emails.

I raised a case and they added a bogus tracking number to it. I asked why it had a different suburb so they escalated to eBay for a determination and they won! I also lost an appeal! Rang auspost who confirmed not even my name matched so waiting on eBay now.

Found heaps of other reviews saying the same thing. I've seen comments suggesting they have operated under other names before too.

Really poor showing by eBay too to facilitate this.

  • +5

    Y U UPVOTE SO EARLY

  • +2

Didn't we win a medal in the Olympic last night? Surely there'll be a flash sale tonight as a result? A general 10% off works for me

  • -2

Is there a way to get a list of members that automatically upvoted this deal so that we can you know, name and shame them?

    • +3

I dont understand how in order to leave a neg you have to justify it with a comment, but when it comes to voting positive on a deal anyone can do it without a reason or saying anything. Really hurts the credibility of bargains being posted. This already has 200+ mindless upvotes and 0 negs for just another eBay advertising campaign. Very misleading for those that dont read the comments and find out the truth about pricejacking.

  • +4

Digitalcinema are a disgrace. Was looking at JVC 5900 projector which was $4999 and they have now jacked it to $5999 which is $500 over RRP anyway!!!

    Sent them a filthy email.

  • +3

upvoting to spite all the haters/complainers/non ACCC reporters

  • can anyone tell me of which of the sellers has these so I can get them cheap .. lol

Xiaomi Mi 10,000mAh Power Bank 2

    • +1

Shopping square has them for $22.76 usually, it should be posted when the deal goes live by someone I’m guessing

  • +1

Two main things I'm looking out for is a decent price on a PSU and GTX 1060.

    • OR use the PRONTO 10% code right now

    • How'd you go with a GTX 1060?

      • +1

$410 on the GTX1060 Turbo from Computer Alliance. Caught it before they price jacked by $20~$50.

  • DJI Mavic Air for $1040 if Futu don't price jack/remove (which they did last time).

  • Can anyone explain to me how this search link works? Whenever I use those search links I get results from private sellers, and businesses who's names are not listed in the sale (i.e. the good guys)

    What am I doing wrong?

    • If you are on mobile change to desktop view.

      • I'm not on mobile :/

Do you search from the top?

        • Yeah

  • +1

better get it now with the current 10% sitewide code before they jack up the price for this 20% sale.

  • Bought from "BuymobileAu" 10 days ago during the last one of these sales and they still haven't even processed my purchase. Now that I'm looking through their negative feedback it seems like they 'become' out of stock on a lot of sale items. So yeah, this shit is literally a scam way for them to advertise shit they'll never be able to sell.

  • Any good washing machine or fridge deals here?

  • Been looking at buying an ASUS 1080TI. No stores in the list had one at a decent price (even taking into account a 20% drop with no price jacking) but I noticed a PRONTO code being promoted in my banner for 10% off site-wide. Ended up buying from Computer Alliance with this code.

IT prices on ebay are mostly garbage.

    For example, HDDs and NAS.
    Occasionally CPUs are ok.
GFX.. maybe ok by a few % (appalling after a 20% off sale)

    • I've got HDDs in the 20% off sale for WAY cheaper than retail/online prices. It's been quite good lately

      • Eg: It'll end up $360-$400 for an 8tb red again. Might as well import for $300.

Edit: I see you're buying seagates. They aren't on my radar. I see they are perhaps ~$10 cheaper than newegg's everyday price.

        • True but newegg isn't exactly my go to shopping destination. And I have found their "everyday" price to be much more than these sales but hey each to their own.

  • Ok, I'm going to go against the norm and say that I'm honestly not expecting much price jacking. When these sales first came around it was pretty common but in the last 6 months most of the sellers seemed to have pulled their heads in. In the last sales I've gotten 10TB Seagate ironwolfs for way cheaper than what the retail stores are offering.

Also, why are these sales so common now?

    • +1

Sellers stopped jacking prices coz they can't keep up with the pace of eBay throwing all these promotions
So they just keep it inflated all the time to save the hassle.

We love the %off deal….So eBay keeps throwing it at us….Though savings are not as big coz of price Jack

  • No Dcxpert this time. Was hoping they will be on there as want to pick up something from them. Whether to use the 10% one or wait for next 20% and hope Dcxpert in there.

  • If prices remain the same, should be able to pick up a Galaxy Note 8 for $800 from Shopping Square. Ah, who am I kidding…

  • Should have bought more eBay gift cards when wollies deal is on.

  • Any chance of Note 8 around $800 ?

  • I keep looking out for Teds Cameras to participate in the again, don't know why they seem to have dropped out.

    • Buy from other shops with the current 10% off, usually cheaper unless it's a rarely discounted item.

  • +1

if no proce jacking, appliance central has LG B7 for 1800 after 20%, is that the best price so far?

    • +1

Jacked up from $2,250 to now $2,520.

      • thats gross, greysonline has refurbished ones for 1800 after discount

  • can someone please make suggestion of which shop sells smart watches. preferably garmin or fitbit brands?

  • Hopefully some decent deals on gaming desktops! Mine just shat itself last week :(

    • check the psu. its the first thing to shat.

      • +1

Depends on the PSU. My current PSU has lasted me 3 full PC builds.

  • any good deals for the geforce 1050 Ti low profile? I just bought a 9020 Optiplex i7 :D

  • Which ones are aus stock with local warranty?

  • I'm looking for a Macbook retina 15. Any deals to be had?

  • Looking for a desktop to last me a few years around 1 - 1.2k with ssd and reasonable gpu included.

  • This should be the landing page, all participating stores listed on the bottom of the page :)

    • Thanks stuhtb, have put it in :)

  • would be nice if some xps13 9370s are available :)

    • Just find a relative that goes to uni, and then log into unidays for a dell 15% discount code. I forgot the cashrewards, but it's another 3.5% on top. So yes I could have had another 80 off but I for some reason never remember cashrewards.

I just got a 9370 last Friday for work, this actually being the company laptop I will claim the GST back too.

      • sorry i misread …

  • Anyone seeing anything decent on soundbars? Just starting my research.

  • Can you use cashrewards with this?

    • Usually we can when these deals are on. Don't see why this would be any different.

    • Nope can’t use with coupon codes

  • What a joke, all the 1050 Ti low profile have been jacked up 20%.

  • +14

I have been following the Fujitsu Astg34kmta from Appliance Central, this has been listed at $2350 ( very good price ) since at least early December 2017. But today they raised the price to $2632, obviously ahead of tomorrow’s 20% offer. The item is cheaper with ebays 10% offer. And is still listed on their site at $2380, as it has been listed for a long time. I think this is proof that price jacking takes place ahead of these offers, and stated discounts are not genuine.

  • Just saw appliance Central Jack up the price of a TV I was eyeing by $400 since this morning

  • +2

Yep, just as savvy ozbargainers predicted, they’ve removed all the decent phones and goodies the day before 20% off sale. I put a heap in my cart to monitor and sure enough they’ve ended the listing and not replaced the deals. Not even price jacking, simply removed. Although, $590 for an IPhone 5 is probably considered a price jack considering it’s a store display model. Boo tech sellers.

  • Waiting waiting

  • A few of the stores I was following ahve jacked their prices up. No surprise there

  • Price jacked up that quick. It was $1499 yesterday

  • +1

This was in my watch list, but seller took down as it is now out of stock. Shame. It is listed for new price at $259

    • +1

      Report to ACCC.

  • +5

Why doesn't eBay step up for once and regulate all these sellers that commit pre-sale price jacks/re-listing with higher price?? It's super annoying and completely defeats the purpose of the sales for people that have been eyeing a product for so long. NOT HAPPY.

Nothing against OP, the NEG is for ebay and price jackers

  • Appliance Central price jacked two TVs I was going to buy. Screen captured watch list, went on tonight, baboom, jacked to the max. We are OzBargainers and pay fair market price in a fair market, not dodgy market. These activities on these sales are getting beyond a joke after the initial hype.

    • Report them to the ACCC. They will definitely be interested in the price jacking.

However, you may actually need to take a gamble of buying the item at the inflated price before you can formally register a complaint. On the flipside, the ACCC may be interested enough to investigate just based on your evidence alone. It's worth having a chat to them to see.

  • +1

was eyeing off a new phone, LG V20 - shopping square australia price jacked all their stock :( so these sales are now really a bit of a joke

  • +6

Dammit, you can add Shooping Square to the price jacking list.

An hour ago the Galaxy Note 8 was $1007, now $1119.

    Huawei Mate 10 was $791, now $879.

    LG V30 was $881, now $979.

  • put your things in your cart and they should not go up in price hopefully ..

    • Sale starts at 10 am.

      • yep just noticed … I just checked my cart and the price is less than the new price..

in my cart battery comes up as $29.69 but click on the link AU $32.99

everyone put all your items in cart now .. the price changes should not affect you…

        • Lol, that wont work

        • -1

          @aldoduco:

Works if you put it in your cart before price jacking

        • @AnotherAsian:

good luck. but you will see the message "seller has changed …." and when you try to pay it wont work.

The only option is to buy before they change the price, but if they sale get cancel or the seller pull out of the sale then ….

        • @aldoduco: Scumbags

        • @AnotherAsian: it’s doesnt work like that. You’ll see the original price in your cart, but as soon as you checkout, the new price appears.

  • +1

    Yep, unfortunately here we go…
Was watching a tv at Appliance Central. They've jacked up the price by 16% for a 20% off sale

    • +2

Yep, a split system air-con I was looking at on their eBay site went from $2230 to $2490.

  • Name and shame…yes I'm looking at you olcdirect, you didn't change the price but both now out of stock with no recent sales

Samsung 850 EVO 4TB 2.5" SATA III 7mm Solid State Drive SSD 540MB/s and Samsung 850 PRO 2TB 2.5" SATA III 7mm SSD Solid State Drive 550MB/s

    • why do they put items out of stock?

ebay takes the 20% hit, the seller still receives their asking price? so why refrain from selling today?
