The seller funds most of the discount, the 20% ones are usually 15% seller/5% ebay.

        • ok thanks! had no idea about that

  • I wonder if I can use my credit cards price protection on a TV in this scenario and wait for the price to drop back to its normal ebay prices before making the claim.
Or even claim against their actual website. Eg ebay appliance Central price $4.7k, appliance Central website $4.1k

    • But your credit card provider will see your 20% off price in their system, despite what it'll say on the receipt. Would be sweet if it works though.

  • Hobby wharehouse just pumped up the list price of a set I was watching. Not by much , but it went up.
Strangley, I have had the same set in my cart since Saturday , and the price for the set has not increased in cart.

Edit : cancel that. Last stage of checkout shows jacked price.

    • Will do when you go to check out … either quantity will be zero or 'seller revised' … you'll then get the full price. I hate the way ebay does that.

  • +1

isn't this type of price increase fraudulent or against consumer law ?

advertise a sale with a % off but jack up prices hours before sale..

    • I think you'll find a sale can end before another one starts.

    • +3

Yes it is. Sale prices are supposed to be based on the regular selling price not RRP or an inflated value. Only way to stop this is for enough people to lodge complaints.

    • +2

It is illegal to increase the price of an item right before a sale.

Kogan got in trouble for it in 2016.

Also, I actually hauled Dell in front of the ACCC in 2008 for a similar scam (in the end, they settled quickly and changed their sale practices).

However, in order for there to be a ruling:
      - Someone needs to gather the evidence.
      - Then someone needs to buy the item at the inflated price, so they are deemed an "affected party" and can lodge a complaint.
      - Then there is a whole investigation process that can take a while.

As a result, stores are willing to take a gamble that they will get away with it.

      • Does the affected party get compensated or they just have to take it for the team? Assuming the stores are charged.

        I am curious

        • +1

The affected party usually gets compensated. In my case, when I went to the ACCC in relation to price jacking, the seller agreed to refund me the difference between the pre-sale price and the jacked price (in this case, it was around $60).

In fact, the store is usually quick to come to some sort of arrangement, to avoid a binding ACCC ruling.

If the price jacking is egregious, or the seller is totally unrepentant, then the ACCC will additionally pursue more punitive actions like a fine and/or public shaming of the retailer (as happened with Kogan in 2016).

  • +14

Lets make a website and post proof with names of these stores who price jack and call the website pricejackers.com.au

    • +1

I'm with ya bro, do it!!!!

  • Any deal on Fisher & Paykel WH7560P2 WashSmart.

    • +5

You know you can click the link and search yourself right? This is OzBargain, not Air Tasker…

  • Price jacking begins in 15mins :D

  • +1

Item I wanted from Futu Online marked "Out of Stock" in the past 10 minutes.

    • +2

Same with onlinecomputerdirect, stock yesterday is suddenly all gone this morning… :/

      • So price jacking have become stock underjacked!

  • +1

Just got Bose QC35 II for $368, down from original $460!

    • Same here !!

  • I'm looking for an old iphone for the folks. Any deals around?

  • +2

Next they'll be doing a 75% sale and price jacking by 5x

  • Mavic Air flymore for $1359.20 delivered

  • iPhone X 256GB for $1740 down from $2088. Bargain!

    • +5

a phone for just under 2k is not a bargain.

  • +1

Just bagged the Mavic Air Onyx Fly More for $1167 :)

  • +7

This item from Appliance Central yesterday was $860

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/ASTG12KMCA-FUJITSU-3-5KW-INVERTE…

    Today it is $990…

    • -1

And after 20% off it comes to $792. Still cheaper than $860. Price jacking sucks but it doesn't justify negging the deal.

      • Yeh but it was $860, less the 10% discount that was available on ebay yesterday, so I could have bought it for $774 vs $792 today.

      • +3

Price jacking is still wrong though. It should have been advertised as 8% sale instead of 20% sale. That's very misleading and I am sure ACCC would agree.

        https://www.accc.gov.au/media-release/kogan-pays-32400-penal…

I am with snensnay on this

  • has anyone had the error "this code couldn't be applied to your order"?

I've spoken to an ebay rep and they said it's still activating and I should wait until 11am even though the website clearly states the sale started at 10am

  • +1

such bs this sale. Massive scam to advertise 20% then price jack 18%!

  • +2

Have no idea why the law allows them to do that?
It's cheating and misleading. I think this behavior is illegal in many countries.

  • Apple Watch Series 3 42mm for $468.00 after applying code (Apple have it for $499), comes from Hong Kong though: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Apple-Watch-Series-3-42mm-Space-…

  • +2

All I can see is price jacked crap, will not buy anything

    • So why did you vote positive?

      • My vote went in before the sale started

  • Purchased an Acer Predator XB271HU from OLCDirect for $799!

It has disappeared from the search list however so I am thinking it was their last one for sale

    • +2

Its about $50 more expensive at Futu Online after applying the code

      • Yea true! So if anyone is looking there are still some available at other stores

    • Looks like OLCDirect has more in stock now!

  • Unfortunately no Hisense tv deals. The current prices make them ok buys but not great.

  • Any official or good
    QI wireless chargers for S8+?

  • any decent S8 plus deals there?

  • Can anyone help, anyone know if any of the listed sellers sell an Acer Aspire screen replacement V3-571G 15.6" … :)

  • +3

All these stores and not one Galaxy S8 deal on a phone that is effectively being replaced in a week. Pathetic..

      • Details look a little sketchy. Maybe if it was original packaging with the full Samsung warranty I would be interested but Invoices are showing factory refurb and not Aus stock. Definitely a no go.

  • +1

And the monitor I was looking at got price jacked again. AOC C4008VU8 $799 before sale, $888 now.

Good thing I ended up getting a Sony 43x7000e from bing lee which were doing it for $719($899 usually) and used the ebay 10% off site wide on top.

  • +8

Shopping square kind of price jacking,3 items in cart went up by $100 each. Should the sellers be banned for this sort of practice in ozbargain or we users boycott them . Really disappointed.

    • +3

Not going to happen unfortunately. OzBargainers actually support this practice. Just look at all the positive votes and all the negative votes that have been revoked.

      • +2

Who is revoking the negative votes, as far as I can see they are all according to guidelines? This should be the indicator for users to see the malpractices from our"favorite sellers"

        • -1

"Your negative vote on this post has been revoked by a moderator as this comment has been unpublished due to "inappropriate use of negative vote"."

Revoked by badmins or automatic revoking after OP downvotes anyone that calls out the usual eBay deals.

  • +6

I always laugh at the comments on these deals. Yes there are some stores that price jack (and sometimes it's just that a current deal has expired before these ones start), but there are plenty of bargains there if you actually look for them and stop whinging about possible price jacking

    • +5

      Exactly this.

Almost every 20% off eBay sale, I buy something from my watch list that has either stayed the same, or gone down in price (or only gone up a few dollars and is still easily worth it).

    • +2

I agree with you as I spent time on research and price comparison and bought an ASUS gaming monitor using the 'PRESENT20' code during the last sale and saved some $$.

The listed 'sale price' on the eBay store I bought from was still higher than my local PC store (Umart, probably the cheapest place I could buy PC stuffs in QLD), however, after the discount code it was 10% cheaper.

The Dell PC deal is also another great example and lots of ozbargainers have pulled the trigger.

Conclusion - Research and compare, with a little bit of luck you can find the bargains you want.

      • Umart isn't really always the cheapest. There is TONNES of competition in that space and a lot of them have stores in the inner city. Check staticice.com.au when searching. Previously I bargain searched using that to build a few PC's, and while I may pickup 1 or 2 items from Umart I almost never get them all from them.

        • Sorry I forgot to mention..I am in QLD, so Umart is usually the cheapest place here :P

        • @beOson: Not true. Use static ice. In chermside we have megabuy, MSY, Umart and there are more around, those 3 are always in competition with each other and will beat each other on different parts. Buy a complete PC from any of those and it will cost similar, but if you want specific parts/brands it will be cheaper to shop around, and its easiest to shop around using a search engine for prices. This is what staticice.com is.

I wish there was a good deal on the Xiaomi robotic vacuum!

  • +1

For $551.20 looks like a good deal to me, what do you guys think?
    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/401489552558

    • As long as you don't mind this:
"Please Note: Item has minor marks & scratches on body."

  • I want cheap ps4 console

  • +2

Huawei Mate 9 Pro went up $100 over night on shoppingsquare…

    • Pretty much everything in their store went up at least $100.

      • Well that's ok I just bought the same phone from elsewhere for cheaper. So they lose in the long run.

  • +3

Trying to buy a Philips sonicare diamond clean

    Went from 240 to 399

    • Can you post the link?

      • well it was multiple buyers

  • Bought a Dji Mavic Air fly more combo for $1167 and will claim on tax.

    3 batteries!

    • Which one? The one above from honk Kong? His can you avoid income tax and claim tax back? Thanks

      • Yes, the one above.

No, not import gst tax. Claiming it on my wife's tax return. She uses drones for work.

        • Lol any vacancy positions in your wife company?? Thanks again will buy one if still available very good price

        • I tried doing this. The ATO asked me to provide licenses etc. They're on the ball. As I don't have a license I can really only fly it for personal use, therefore cannot claim.

        • @shamona1: my wife has a license.. although usually they get experienced pilots in to make it easier

        • @shamona1:
You don't need a license anymore. You can register for comercial operation of a drone less than 2kg for free. They changed the rules last year.

        • @Putnum: Excellent, sounds like an awesome job!

        • @jpcw: I didn't know that, thanks for the heads up!

  • Anyone have a search link, it was there a couple days ago. Gone now.

  • +6

My Phonez forgot to jack their prices and I scored an iPhone 8 for $839.20 (1049 - 20%). I guess there’s still a chance they are going to cancel my order but my CC has been charged so fingers crossed.

As soon as I finished payment the price went up to $1249.

    • +1

Expect a refund with an excuse that item is no longer available.

    • Looks like they've gone up now?

  • After a Sony x3000 any decent deal ATM???
    Search link would be good

    • +2

"To search all participating stores, click the main link then scroll down to the searchbox with the blue 'Search the Sale' button."

      • -1

        Thanks mate ….. Great help

  • +1

Someone should send this link to the sellers https://www.accc.gov.au/media-release/kogan-pays-32400-penal…

    • I'll contact accc and see what they say lol

  • +1

    searched for an ipad
says $499 but when you click into the item and scroll down in the description there in big blue writing is 469.00i can only assume that use to be the cost of the ipad before the sale.

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/APPLE-iPAD-32GB-Wi-Fi-SPACE-GREY…

    • I checked there revisions for the item listing. There is no price change since the 5th of February.

  • If your buying PC components just compare the price on Staticice here https://goo.gl/SQJhzc .
