I moved over last month when it was 20GB (I never come close to using this much).

It's been a long time since I've been with an Optus carrier (normally Telstra), and I'm quite impressed with the 4g signal.

18GB for effectively $28.67 (after $40 cash back) is difficult to beat, particularly when the unused data rolls over to the next month.

Apologies for hijacking the comment, but for anyone looking to get this plan, we're (CR) increasing cashback to $50 (up from $40) for 24 hours only… 3pm today, to 3pm tomorrow Monday) AEDT. Thanks.

      • +4

        Thanks for thanking.

we're (CR) increasing cashback to $50 (up from $40)

        Well……there goes all my calculations.

        edit: $27.84

      • Noob QN: Is there a way to claim cashback if we signup over phone ?

        • +1

Unfortunately not. You must click out from CR (offer is listed on site) and complete your purchase online.

      • The deal kicked in yet, TA?

        • +1

Yup, 23 minutes ago. Make sure you refresh the page. May be cached on your browser :)

        • +2

@tightarse: Sure did, thank you! The Google extension still shows $40, but the CR page will show $50.

        • @KLoNe: Ye, ignore the rate on the notifier for this promo as it may take a while to update. Always check rates on site to be 100% sure.

      • I signed up Friday - Bugger!!!!

        • me too!have you got approved yet?it's Tue,still not approved.says within 24 to 48hr in confirmation email

        • @028: I got no email but I did get a SIM card delivered today so not sure if I approved

        • @Msfrugal:
well, hope I get the sim card on Wed.

  • Hey do know if they have free music streaming like Optus (Google Music/ or Spotify) ???!

  • Hows the 4G connection and speeds compare to Optus? I’m in inner west Sydney

    • I’m also in the Inner West, currently on 3 bars and pulling 29.45 Mbps down and 7.44 Mbps up.

      • I’m inner West in Optus and I’m full bar but 3G!!! Good speeds ??

        • I came to Virgin as a ten year Telstra user and have not been disappointed!

    • It is identical to the Optus coverage. They don't differentiate if you're an Optus user or Virgin user until it comes to billing, really.

Spoke to customer rep over phone, she was kind enough to add 2GB to $32 plan.

    $32/month
    20GB rollover data
    Unlimited local
    $200 international

Unfortunately no $40 cashback as it was telesales.

Also, virgin has $20 off if you signup for mobile broadband. Signed up for $75 plan for $55

    $55/month
    140GB rollover data

    Total:
    $87/month
    160GB rollover data
    Unlimited calls
    $200 international

    • Pretty great deal for mobile broadband. I've done some searching and that's the cheapest you'll probably find.

  • Now I’m confused. Was going to take up the current Optus promo of $30pm 15gb with several streaming services unmetered now this

Its only for my iPad. Any advice? So many first world problems

    • +2

Obviously this would be cheaper and comes with data-rollover, but the big advantage of the Optus plan is the quota free video streaming (netflix/stan/nat-geo, etc) services. I would recommend the Optus plan over this if you use those streaming services (and you're willing to stream in SD). However, if you don't use them regularly I think it's safe to say this Virgin plan is the better deal.

      • Has anyone tried using this with a Chromecast? I checked the terms and apparently casting to a TV isnt included within the Optus plan, only streaming on your own device.

Being locked into a contract when BYO phone in my opinion is just stupid

    • +10

Can you find an off-contract monthly plan that offers 18GB/rollover data/international calls-txt for $32 and then get back to us (or better still, list it on this site)?

  • Anyone know how quick they are at sending sims out?

I'm with Telstra at the moment (only been paying $8 a month for the last 2 years - which included iPhone 7, unlimited calls & texts plus 5GB so my wallet is now complaining, LOL). My plan ends today.

    • Mine took 3 business days to arrive but if you’re close to a Virgin store, you can just walk in and grab one free.

      • +1

        Thank you! :)

      • Hi, just wondering how you activated and ported your number after receiving? (If you or anyone else did) Mine arrived today but using the new number and pin under virginmobile.com.au but says no pending service.

        • +1

Activated the SIM by calling them (activates whatever number comes with the SIM). Then had to initiate a port by logging into my account. The port from Boost prepaid to Virgin took 20 minutes! Incredible service.

      • TA, I went through cashrewards and purchased, but nothing is showing in my account - and I didn't go to other sites.

    • How do you get a iPhone 7 for $8 a month????

      • The previous two years I was on a family & friends plan, went on live chat when that was up and they put me onto a staff connect plan - I was not going to complain!

  • +1

Thanks @coco1458. managed to save some coin :)

  • +2

Fine Print: Please note it is not possible to call Iraq, Syria or North Korea with your $200 international minutes.

    • Damn!!

      • Damn!!

Ditto. I was even more upset upon leaning Cuba and Guinea-Bissau are also excluded.

    • :(

    • Probably blown up all the phones towers.

  • My current plan ends on 14 March, anyone have a rough idea if and when Virgin will force activate this sim if I sign up? Thanks

  • -2

    $18 for 32 would b better.

    • $0 for 100 would be even better still… There's always one in the crowd!

      • Meh… im getting 100gb for $20 with the Optus deal.

All these plans now seam, terrible.

        • Im paying $12 per month. So makes this deal even worse.

  • I’m currently on a month to month contract $40 for 10GB. This deal might finally make me move onto a 12 month contract again. I don’t see myself needing anywhere near 18GB, and $8 less a month is great.
However what happens after 12 months? Does the deal go back to $40 and 10GB?

    • +1

Stays at $32 until you change or cancel your plan.
      Pretty much stays $32 indefinitely

      • Thank you, so after the 12 months it’s month to month?

        • Exactly right :)

  • Can we port our existing number across? I'd really hope so… :-/

    • I ordered and it didn't ask for card details or number. After confirmation there's a bit that says porting is a goer. Must be after receiving Sim, as well as paying/credit card details.
I'm used to the up front porting details of amaysim and co.

    • Yeah you can do it while activating the sim card that was sent out ie after you receive the sim

  • Got mine upgraded to Sim 40 for $32 and 20gb in December with $200 for international. But since the last 2 Months it has been giving $500 international call&text so it’s a bonus which I rarely use since I have been calling using FaceTime or WhatsApp

  • Good deal. data rollover is awesome!

also data gifting comes in handy when I run out of data, I beg more more from friends haha

  • Quick question. What happens if after say a month i don't like their service and want to cancel my contract.

I read: If you leave your plan early, just pay 25% of the pro-rated plan fee for the days remaining in your contract.

Would that mean i pay $32x0.25x11 as I pay 25% for the remaining 11 months?

    Thank you

    • +1

Yes, well I'm pretty sure it's that
When I enquired about exiting my plan it was 25% of the remaining amount owing

      • Thank you

  • I'm on the 20GB version too from the previous promotion but this is a decent deal nonetheless because of data rollover.

  • Hi, Thanks for posting this. Already a Virgin customer so now have more data for less $$$$!!!!
    Thanks

  • anybody know how long this deal will last for?

    • Ends midnight 21st of feb

      • thank you

      • Actually it ends at noon on Wednesday, not midnight :-)
        (12pm AEDT to be precise)

        • Oops yep my bad, I knew it was 12 something haha

  • is the data usage real time?how good is the app?I'm with telechoice, has real time data usag updates.

    • The app isn't that bad but it isn't real time. The website refreshes data usage quicker than the app
The app is only really useful for paying the bill or data analytics

      • cheers
for telechoice, there's no app, instead I dial *159#,then I get instant data usage info,is Virgin web usage info the best way to check?

        • I'm honestly not sure if virgin has the same dial feature but virgin does mention that data usage can be 48 hours behind.
In my experience it's usually a few hours behind

        • @coco1458:
I guess 18g will be harder for me to go over:D
          was on 2gb.

        • @028: I don't even bother checking, data rollover included means that you can easily rack up 30GB+

        • @coco1458:
          can't wait!

got sms saying will be delivered today
