  • If you're microwaving corn, you are doing it wrong. Sorry. Corn is never as good microwaved.

    • What do you recommend?

I love them cooked on the BBQ. I have a Weber-Q and cook them 'husked' in a tray initially, with a little olive oil and salt, and finish them off directly on the grill. They get a few nice charred sections that way without getting burnt. Absolutely love the sound they make when they hit the hot grill — you can literally hear the corn popping (not like popcorn).

If you don't have a bbq, you can do the same thing in a heavy frypan. Just don't use too much oil (or salt).

        • I've done them on the griddle they taste great but it takes 20+ minutes. Good if you have the time.

How long do they take on the webber?

        • @sween64:

takes me about the same amount of time. 15 mins in the tray, then 5 mins on the grill as a minimum. It's almost set-and-forget (I set a timer so I don't literally forget). I'm usually doing something else, so the time isn't a problem for me. The Weber needs far less supervision than the frypan.

        • You are frying corn and adding salt, you may as well eat cheese flavoured Doritos. I microwave corn 95% of the time, it tastes great. Corn is healthy, like most foods when you add oils to the food they become unhealthy.

      • I think Tazo has covered it well. Weber (or BBQ) on the weekend or any time I could be bothered, frypan for when I can't. Have tried to cook corn several ways, none are as good as this.

Btw - boiled vs microwaved is barely a difference. Probably slightly better boiled than microwaved but they are on the same level.

      • I do mine in the sous vide. Wipe butter on and cook for 30 min. Tastes great and pushes the butter into the cracks.

    • as good as boiled? it tastes as better.
(so long as you've washed, shaken, but not dried it, before wrapping in cling wrap)
as good as on charcoal/wood? no it's not.

Also, be aware that the ones in store do not look as good as the one in the picture..

      Sometimes you truly amaize me.

  • They had 4 full sized corn cobs for $2 at my local NSW Coles.
    Pears were $1 per kg.
Vine ripened tomatoes still $4 per kg
