if the battery has been replaced, it may be a bargain, otherwise….

    • Always why I pass on these…old batteries. A shame so many makers have made it next-to (or completely) impossible to install a new battery. Electronics, to the moon, going into landfills & polluting our planet.

      :(

      • Well, the society doesn't do anything about it. If people said we won't buy it unless you do a certain thing, companies would do it as no money = no business. But not in this world.

      • Because people have an obsession with metal case, which makes it hard to open it.

If you ask people why they want a metal case, it's usually because "it looks cooler" or some will say water resistance, even though Apple used metal casing in their iphones for years before they introduced water resistance.

  • That's a really low cost.
Looking at reviews it seems to be fairly effective but I wouldn't want to use a low spec device on a regular basis.

    • even if just for browsing (but i like to keep lots tabs open) and watching x265 movies?

      • I'm almost certain x265 is not watchable. Will be choppy with this processor. If it ran on Android it would play smoothly, but not Windows 10.

Source: I have dual boot Atoms. I have tested them.

I got a similar laptop with same capacity ssd as this one. 32GB is pretty much useless if you run windows 10. Most updates require around 4-8Gb free space on the disk.

Only option is to run a Linux distro or Chromium OS (CloudReady)

    • Wow I did a quick google and 32gb is really insufficient for Windows 10. Thanks for the comment, this is why Ozbargain is great for technical illiterate like myself.

It took me a long time to figure out how to purge old W10 files but it can be done. There is an instant command somewhere. Might be 'disk clean up'.

      I now run the latest W10 on a 32gb Beelink P1 effortlessly.

Some large W10 apps can be moved to a USB flash drive too.

Yes. You could even mount a USB like a local drive and have that for windows updates. Still it is not straight forward for the normal desktop user. 32Gb is not sufficient for windows 10. Even after cleaning old files and everything still windows 10 asks me to free up 8gb more to run the windows update assistant.

Got fed up of this whole process after doing this couple of time. One laptop runs on Ubuntu with about 15gb free space while the other one runs on Chromium.

        • I assure you, there is a command somewhere which removes about 10gb of the original OS in order to get the new 8gb W10 update installed. I had the same warning messages as you and got onto Google.

I remember giving up at first, left it for about 6 months, then revisited it to great success.

I can prove it with screenshots, but not this weekend.

Yes, Open, My PC (no idea why they felt compelled to rename My Computer, but don't get me started) >right-click C:>properties>"disk cleanup">tick everything & then click "system files". Wait a long time. Tick the boxes for everything> Make it so!

If you have a standard hard drive, defrag afterwards. Windows defrag is hideous (imho)— Google what's out there & try what you like.

Auslogic does a good job, but like most freebies, tries to install other junk unless you install using "custom or advanced" & decline the "offers". Malwarebytes flags it as unsafe, but I & many think it's a false-positive. In Auslogic, go into the settings to dump temp files & move others to the start of the disk. I see immediate improvement in local folder/program response.

can we replace the 32gb emmc with proper drive

    • no, its soldered emmc

you can add an sd card though i assume

      • yes, there is a micro SD card slot

    • Not easily. But if you are willing to go electronics degree on it I think anything is possible aka soldering and reshuffling etc.

      • Even then, you could only replace it with a bigger emmc. There's no space for 2.5" hdd or ssd.

  • Hmm. I'm ok with the screen resolution.

Only 32GB eMMC, you probably can't update Windows to a major update. And it will be slow eMMC.

Atom is also not very good at running Windows 10. I would buy if it was Celeron.

  • Just by the way, you can't update Windows 10 nor delete the update. You've basically got a full drive of windows and nothing else. You can try and go all full techo to delete the files, but they'll keep reinstalling or pestering you to free up space.

Also, security is being dropped for the last update of windows 10 in April.

    • It can be done. See my post above.

You can try and go all full to delete the files

In other words, if you are willing to spend a "long time to figure out how to purge old W10 files" it can be done, but the average Joe won't know about it (or for that matter, only buy a computer with 32gb of eMMC)

        • Microsoft have an effortless way of doing it but they appear not to have documented it. I have discovered it, but all I can remember is that it had something to do with disk clean up / system files. No manual purging involved.

        • @aboabo: Well, that's great but if you can't remember it I'm afraid that it's going to take a lot of time to 'rediscover' again..

        • @pennypincher98:

It'll take less time to read what Geekomatic said above.

        • @aboabo: Ok fair enough, that wasn't there last time I looked.

        • @aboabo: as far as I am concerned I never found this magical command yet under disk cleanup options.

        • @dealspider:Instructions by Geekomatic above.

I just tested it on a W10 PC so here are the specifics:

Right click C: > properties > disk clean-up > clean up system files > windows update clean-up (checkbox) + previous Windows installation(s) (checkbox) + any other checkboxes > OK

I can save 7GB doing that on my PC right now.

Microsoft were too lazy to make a batch command to deal with large updates for disks with insufficient storage.

  • there are a few of the cheapie Lenovo laptops around $200 on this site, with 1TB HD and you can use the same 20% off code, but too low number to post.

    • Can you link them in the comments?

    Bought below for 199.2

    • Yes got one also, not too sure about the AMD and Intel equivalents but got it as a fweb browsing machine

      • AMD A6 vs Intel - probably like a Pentium N3710 or something. Just my estimated equivalent.

  • Why is it so expensive? Is there a bonus item included? I don't get it.
