    36 months damn…

    • +18

Being stuck on 5gb for 36 months would negate any kind of saving to me personaly

      • -1

        Of course they will. Damn.

It's hardly like they have a great current roster for supported devices. I wouldn't hold your breath.

        • @PainToad: S6 is in the link you posted so would assume 3yrs for S9 is highly likely

        • +4

Considering my Australian unbranded S7 is stuck on the October 2017 update I wouldnt rely on it.

They were fantastic for the first 18 months and have really dropped the ball the past 6 months. Its not like they havent pushed the updates in other regions (a lot of Europe is on January)

        • +2

@gbnz: My Telstra S8 is still on October 2017 as well!

        • @gbnz: That's because they're preparing the Oreo update, which will include up to Feb security updates.

        • -1

          @gbnz:

So when Oreo comes, you won't install it?

        • @tukanglistrik: rubbish Samsung is the worst in flow up and update my second phone Samsung s8+ is over a year now and still to get Oreo 8 and google will announce android 9 in a month time or 2
          get real man

        • @tukanglistrik:

Why did they not do that with the Nougat update last year?

Why are other regions still getting security updates while they wait for Oreo?

So when Oreo launches for the S7 hopefully in March/April we will get the Feb patch? I remember when I first got this device that we were never more than a month behind and now I should be content with getting them late?

        • @gbnz: Not sure about S7 but in the case of S8, they did launch the Oreo update 2 weeks ago which includes Feb patch but then pulled it out due to some issues.

        • +2

          @tukanglistrik:

That's because they're preparing the Oreo update, which will include up to Feb security updates.

HAHAHAHAHAHHA. SO you think it's acceptable for them to just leave user's phone vulnerable to exploits while they finally get around to upgrading to Oreo?

They should be continually providing security updates for current OS versions and working on future OS versions simultaneously. This shit is why I'll never touch a Samsung phone.

      • yes.

      • Will need to cop maybe an extra $39 to change battery to be able to update as it'd be industry standard by then.

        • +1

battery change is for iphone users…damn

      • +1

Do they even supply security updates for current devices? My S8 is still on the October update!

      • My S6 is still getting the updates so yes. Might take a little longer but especially the flagship lines will be taken care of.

This is a 24 or 36 month handset repayment plan… just have to pay off the $900 or $1000 handset in 24 or 36 installments.

So yes, if you were going to spend $1320 on a S9 plus a dock, and instead you spend $1980 for the plan as well, it's $18.33 per month over 36 months.

By that logic, over 24 months your phone plan costs $720 + $900 cost of handset = $1,620. And you get $1320 worth of gear. So you're paying an extra $300 for 24 months of phone plan = $12.50 per month. Is that not a better deal if we're talking in terms of plan cost?

The deal here is really an interest free repayment plan with a $300 discount on the S9 or S9+, at least while you're with Woolworths Mobile for 24 or 36 months.

The 5GB will cost you $30 per month PLUS the mobile handset repayments. 10GB (with 5GB bonus) is $40, 15GB (with 10GB bonus) is $50.

The mobile handset repayments are simply:
      $900/24 over 24 months or $900/36 for 36 months for the S9
      $1000/24 for 24 months or $1000/36 for 36 months for the S9+

You then have a flexi plan on top - $30, $40 or $50 per month.

Minimum cost is $1230 (handset cost of $1200 plus first month) "before discounts" for either the 24 or 36 month option. With the $300 the discount, the minimum cost should be $930. If you stop all flexi plans, all your handset repayments become due. The terms are not clear about whether you get the $300 discount in this case.

You can switch between the flexi plans (though there may be a cost if you do it more than once per year).

  • +4

Price will drop to 800 in 6 months

    • +13

doubt it, the S8 are still near $900

  • +8

    Geez. 36 months

In a few years phone contracts are going to 10 years and lease only

  • +14

36m & 5gb have to be nuts to sign up 3 years on those terms

  • +5

36 month plan with dick all data? LMAO yeah nah I'll be right

  • i'd suggest waiting. Note 8 was cheaper from RRP due to 20% ebay sales that occurred around the same time. 5gb a month for 3 years is a killer.

  • 3 years, they wouldnt even warranty it that long

    • I'd expect that they'll be required to under Australian Consumer Law - 2 year contracts forced them to provide 2 year warranties…

    • Interesting point. It might be that the ACCC requires the seller to provide a warranty for the duration of the contract. This might come back to bite the seller in the ass.

      • +3

This is exactly how it works.

Provider must ensure a device works for the term of the contract

  • Does that mean the phone has a 36 month warranty?
A while back telcos were done for only having 12 month warranty on a 24 month contract that's why warranties are now 24months

    • I believe so, but its something worth checking.

  • I'm happy to pay a little extra to avoid 12 month contracts. But 36 months? Forget it, I wouldn't touch that with a barge pole.

5GB isn't a lot of data right now, let alone in 3 years time.

  • +5

Wouldn't touch this with someone else's 10 ft pole.

  • With prices of plans coming down, you dont want to lock into a $55 a month for 5GB plan either

  • Hang on…

with no real reason existing now to keep constantly upgrading phones you'd think they'd throw in more data to convince people to upgrade! Apparently not…

    • +1

with no real reason existing now to keep constantly upgrading phones

Four words: unpatched critical security vulnerabilities. It's the new method for planned obsolescence.

      • So they will be refusing to release security patches instead people forcing to physically upgrade the hardware?

      • If that's the method, it's not very effective. The average user doesn't give a toss about security updates.

        • Must concede the notion has a hole in it through which you just drove a B-double.

  • Your a brave man to sign up to a three year deal.

  • That means free extended 1 yr warranty by Woolworths.
If it breaks down in the final year. Theyll repiar or replace

    • woolworths warranty or samsung warranty?

      • good question,
im sure the consumer law is that it has to be warrranted for hte duration of intended use, obviously if you are offering 3yrs then the phone has to work for that time,

I wonder what woolworths will do,
surely they are not that dumb to have neglected that fact

  • Yep, def not for everyone but works for my circumstances.
Never use more than 5gb due to home/work wifi

Paying $24 p/m on sim only atm - so more than deal after factoring in RRP
Don't mind paying RRP out over the plan if i get it fresh at release

    Similar deal at Vodafone = $63 p/m 36months with only 4gb Data

    • your basing your buy on 3yr never going over 5gb, think about it before you sign, will be other better deals over the next month, or look to buy outright when theres a 20% off deal & go on a cheap sim plan

      • Yes but everyone is making a huge deal about 3years when there are no early termination fees?

If by chance I find my data usage increases, I cancel plan, pay out remaining handset repayments and move on?

        • +2

they will get you when you have to pay out the phone, you will find barely any of your $54pm has been taken off the phone cost, just wait to see other deals imo

        • Entertainment Book 10% off bill brings it down to $49.46 p/m
2 Woolworths rewards points for every dollar spent

I feel like I have to talk you into it before I jump

        • @sdavey307: lol.. just dont do it!

        • I'll do the dishes every night for a week?

        • +2

@sdavey307: you'll do the dishes as punishment for considering to sign up to the deal

        • @RogueWolf: sooooooo… what colour should i go for?

        • @sdavey307: thats it hand in your OzB acc

        • @RogueWolf: lol. lucky I still got a night to sleep on it, would have well and truly jumped by now

        • +3

@sdavey307: lol.. hope you sleep in until the deal is expired

    • +1

You'll be seeing 2 gens of phones superceding your model and still be paying it off for another year.. feels bad man. You won't get a new phone until S12.

  • You can cancel anytime, but then everything becomes due.

    Early Termination Charge
If you cancel your Plan, there are no early termination charges. However:
    a) you will need to pay the Minimum Monthly Charge and any outstanding charges owing on your Plan; and
    b) all outstanding charges and unpaid instalments under your Handset Payment Plan will immediately become due and
    payable.

    • Interesting theory

But if you cancel after minimum one month, do they make you pay out remaining handset repayments in lump sum - or can you continue to pay monthly until payed out?

EDIT Ah you edited and beat me to it….

  • +1

This is also available on the 24 month plan. It's a handset repayment plan - paying $900 (S9) or $1000 (S9+) in equal monthly (interest free) installments over 24 or 36 months. The mobile plan (any $30, $40 or $50 flexi plan) is extra. So for a 24 month contract, just choose the 24 month plan.

You can cancel anytime, but then everything becomes due:

    Early Termination Charge
If you cancel your Plan, there are no early termination charges. However:
    a) you will need to pay the Minimum Monthly Charge and any outstanding charges owing on your Plan; and
    b) all outstanding charges and unpaid instalments under your Handset Payment Plan will immediately become due and
    payable.

You can change flexi plans once per year (between $30, $40 or $50) without incurring a "change fee". Not sure how much that fee is.

I got sucked into s7 edge 2 year contract with only 3 gb data for 59$ per month. It looked good at that time but started regretting it after 6 months. 3Gb data per month is nowhere enough. Stay away from this deal you will regret it.

    • +1

of course. now people comparing this with current prepaid and say "not bad you get the phone worth $$$"
but remember you will be in contract, fixed, while the world around you moving to the cheaper side. join contract because people cant afford upfront, is just plain stupid.

  • +1

seriously if you cant afford pay $1500 upfront for a phone then DO NOT GET that phone. get something else that your wallet can afford. simple as that. tied in contract for 36 months. crazy mfck.

but, before running to buy $1.5k upfront phone just check your bank account. if you only has 10k then dont spend $1k just for a phone. ffs.

  • +1

When you FACTOR is the fact the S9 will probably be 50% cheaper outright in 6 months time…..

  • do these come unlocked?

    • +1

yes they do… but you will be stuck for 3 years

  • I rememebrr about 12 months i got negged down for suggesting 4gb on a 24month plan was not enough. Look at all the plans now!

This is not different. In 36 months you seriously regret 5gb.

    • -2

The fact that Samsung phones will always depreciate quickly is reason enuf not to go with this.. by time Apple release new iphones, S9 64gb will be $650~ with deals and with current Kogan service ~$12 a month… really getting rorted on this deal.

      • this kind of deal on newly released phone is just for people who poor but still dont want to learn to save $. just spend whatever they have and live at this moment forget the future. centrelink is the solution.

        • Impulse buy at a fraction of the actual price.. just keep paying overs for it.. Like buying a car u cant really afford on some rediculas finance deal.

        • you only live once! Cntlnk FTW

  • 36 months wtf

  • do you get 3 years warranty to cover the contract as per ACL?

  • Yeaaaahh….naaaa..
