        • Anyone got a manufacture date that might lead to a phone with a less likely problem.

        • +2

          @kulprit:

Reddit says October 20-something, however, mine is November and it's still woefully bad. Taking it back tomorrow arvo.

    • +2

This is the one thing holding me off this phone. It looks looks like junk. Reports online are some phones are worse than others. Make sure you’ve the latest updates too as there’s some colour adjustments

      • +2

Yep, read that and updated - no better.

This guy has been through 4 and all have the same screen lol https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nt68U_orA0A

I'm going to open the replacement in store…

    • +1

Was trying to tell people this earlier but people who’d just bought it didn’t want to hear anything negative. It only takes one Google search to see issues galore.

  • does anyone have a picture of headset given free in stores with this?

  • Just received a message from 0427819703 stating, "Your Telstra mobile order has been stopped. Please call us on 1800 096 566 for more information."
Tried calling but it seems they are closed for the day.

    Anyone else received it?

    • +1

This likely means you need to go into a store and verify yourself with some bills. They do this every so often and it's really annoying. Usually due to address mismatches or something regarding your details.

    • same thing happened to me, was told by chat that i had to go in store to verify ID. Too much of a hassle for me, since im overseas for the next couple of weeks :(.

  • Is it locked to Telstra?

  • +1

Great deal OP! Went to Telstra Melbourne Exhibition store yesterday and signed up for the plan (porting in from Kogan Mobile). Luckily they had the last bundle left in store.. so I left the store with Telstra BYO $59 15GB Plan + Pixel 2 XL Black & White 64GB + Pipe earpiece + Google Home Mini (Chalk). Later on I went on the live chat and asked for the eligibility for bonus data, and the guy added another 5GB on top of my plan! So I do recommend y’all to ask for that as well.

  • +1

wow, the number of newly listed pixel 2 XLs today is 11(on ebay). I hope everyone gets a good price with the market being flooded by them..

  • Can anyone confirm me its $59 including phone, As I chat online with Telstra and rep said its $59 plan + $42 for the phone?

    • +1

yes its $59 including phone + google mini + earphone. I just bought it in JBHifi store 2 hours ago. This rep is trying to ripped you off. Try another person

      • No earphones through online chat.

    • +1

It's the $59 friends & family plan with $0 handset repayment. Here is the jb hifi link that shows it if you need it.
      https://www.jbhifi.com.au/features/phones/telstra-terms/

    • Yup same. Also am i blind, but the link in the post shows $109/month. Where exactly is this deal on the website?

  • Tried online chat. Ganesh could not help me tonight. :(

  • Rohini and Lovely Rose on live chat aren't able to help either :(

    • Lovely Rose signed me up yesterday. What did she say to you?
She forgot to ask for my postal address so she rang me after for it. Hope the order comes through as it is still on Pending.

      • That it's only for porting customers only (sorry forgot to mention i'm Telstra prepaid)
Ariane can't help either, she added that Telstra is really strict with this one and anyone caught mucking about with it will be "escalated"
Ariane said that as long as it's a port in, they can do it.
Looks like i'll be porting over to voda etc and visiting a Telstra store tomorrow

  • @googolplex hit me up. I can't send PM's yet

    • I'm locked out of sending you a PM too.
Feel free to look for my post in the classified section via the forums (today is the first time I've browsed to that section)

  • Anyone got any info on if Telstra hold back the software updates? I know it has no branding etc, and looks like stock android with no additions, but i thought telstra still tweaked it to run better on their network etc?

  • Successfully order via online chat :-)

Summary of a great deal I scored this morning. I had a earlier interaction record from Telstra for $10 discount and 5GB bonus data upon adding a 2nd service via port-in (Note: This was a pre-existing offer and independent of this deal). Coming back to deal, what I did was:
    - First I got this plan from JB-HiFi (Pixel 2 XL + Home Mini + Earphones) and requested paid add-on of international pack i.e. $69/month in total.
    - Then I got in touch with Telstra by providing my previous interaction ID and they happily added $10 discount plus 5GB data.

So, basically I ended up getting $79 plan benefits for $59. Really happy!! Thanks OP, great find :)

And, if someone else has similar chat record/interaction ID which you have forgotten about, this is perfect time to attempt a double-dip!!

    • What's international calling…. Us to them or roaming?

      • Us to them. Normally a $10 bolt on. Gives unlitted calling to usual 10 high traffic countries

    • I ported my number and wifes. How did you claim to be he $10 discount? Is this listed anywhere? I actually need to add the international pack so this would be awesome.

      • +1

I contacted them via live chat and got the $10 / 5gb applied also . winning :)

        • So you signed up either in store telstra/jb at $59 x 2 per month. Then jumped online about an offer for $10 off a second service?

        • @kulprit:
Correct. Though I think I actually got $10 off and extra 5gb for both phones(I don't know how to check as I haven't revieved a bill yet) .I then added an international data pack.

        • Do yo remember the rep name? What did you say to convince them? I just ported two numbers but they didn't concede on the $10 discount. Cheers.

        • +1

@Shopping Fig: I think its just for the normal plans and not the family and friends. I think the 2 have been very lucky.

        • @kulprit: Indeed. I'll still try my luck with the online chat a couple of times just in case.

        • @kulprit:
Yeah I was lucky I think. I had called 3 times before that just to get the mini home. They all said no.

Th annoying thing is. I think once they say no, they put a note on your account so other people will see.
I guess need to be lucky on first try.

          I usually luck out.

  • As an existing customer (although out of contract) could you just buy a cheap pre paid sim from Optus/Vodafone and port that number to telstra? Obviously you would get a new number which may not be ideal… but if they are cracking down on the porting in and out what other options are there?

  • -1

So the only cure is nightmode do is either blue or orange screen for P2 xl

    • +4

      Your comment gave me AIDS

  • Tell me one thing, the total cost is $2655 ($59*24 months), and I noticed people selling it for $850-950 mark

why would people sell it and not just use it? What's the use of getting expensive contract and sell it for half the cost

I guess this is for anyone who just use the $59 contract for an existing phone that gives 15GB/ month data? But then you are locked in for 2 years though?

With plans, I'm afraid with surprises charges, such as:
    * over usage data
    * 1300 xx number

Does Telstra provide notification / allow us to block certain services that we don't want?

    • +2

      59*24=1416

They're selling it for $850-$950, because they're still claiming a tax deduction for the full amount.

      • Lol sorry my bad, must be my morning brain (Or my brain in general… *_^)

      • I wonder whether I can claim TRS with this…hm….perhaps not….too greedy I am…

        • +1

Unlikely - unless you have an invoice for $1416 … your telstra bills will only show $59/month.

      • +1

@salmon123 - how do you claim tax deduction? work expense? and on the full 24mths contract amount? Thanks mate

        • Yeah - 'work expense'. basically claiming $59/month.

        • @salmon123: i see…thanks mate! :)

    • +2

      No idea where you get $2655 from. $59 * 24 months = $1416.
Selling this phone for $900 or so gives you the above plan for only $20 a month.

Yes you are locked in for two years but tell me where you can get something this cheap with good service.

With plans, I'm afraid with surprise charges, such as:
      * over usage data

You can set up a data limit on Android, through the settings - search "data usage"
As for 1300 numbers, simply don't call them and you won't be charged.

Edit: didn't realise it's already been replied to

    • By bad

  • Has anyone who signed up online received a confirmation or summary email yet?
Still have not received mine. Only a tracking number during the sign up in live chat. I should have just went into JB hifi to sign up instead!

    • Think they said it takes 24-48 hrs to receive a email with the details

      • Thanks, i was told 15 minutes by Bhagvanti

  • Just got off the live chat and realised they don't actually include 13, 18, 1300, 1800 etc numbers despite saying in their Critical Information Summary:

Unlimited. Your Monthly Calls can be used in Australia for calls to standard Australian numbers, as well as most 11xx, 12xx, 13xx and 1800 numbers.

Turns out the only ones you can call are Telstra hotlines. I get charged to check my bank balance.

    What's not included?

premium numbers (eg 19xx numbers) and some satellite numbers, 1234, 12 455 and 12 456 numbers

This is actually so misleading. I'm so glad I didn't just blindly accept the T&C's and sign up on this deal because I would've been stuck with a plan I didn't want and a device that might potentially be too big.

    • So are 1300 included or not?

      • No, none of them are except for Telstra support numbers.

        • So Boost fine…Telstra no? What rate is a 1300 number time or set amount on Telstra Plan mobile?
Is it not law that 1800 are Free for all mobile and landline in AU?

        • @PLANT: Boost and Telstra MVNOs are fine, but no free 13, 1300, 18 or 1800 numbers on Telstra. They charge these as a "premium number".

It's not the law to have them for free, but it is the law to provide accurate information that is in no way misleading. Having said that, Telstra is the first telco I've seen not to include them.

EDIT: Still needing to confirm with another online agent or in store, becuase googling and Telstra forums say that you can ring 13/1300 numbers and not be charged. Ask before contracting though.

        • +1

          @PLANT: Just heard from Giancarlo:

It does include 13xx numbers as part of the allowance.

          Me at 18:36, Mar 2:
Thank you for that. Do you know if it's just Telstra numbers that are included or other ones also? Thanks :)

          Giancarlo at 18:37, Mar 2:
Don't worry, it's for Telstra and non-Telstra numbers as well.

    • if the CIS states Unlimited….as well as most 11xx, 12xx, 13xx and 1800 numbers. then that's not just Telstra numbers. My current Telstra plan has simialar CIS wording & I call Govt/Bank/Telco/etc 13xxx numbers & I've never been charged. If they did I'd be complaining & then off to the ombudsman, & the ACCC as that's deceptive and misleading contract.

      • Yeah I just got clarification from Giancarlo last night saying its for Telstra and non-Telstra numbers but I wanted to ensure it was because Telstra could probably wriggle their way out of any tight spot.
They can't if their consultant has said in black and white that you can.

I'll definitely be complaining if I am charged for these calls.

Got one yesterday at Jb Hi Fi Bourke Street store melbourne, came with Google Mini and headphones, managed to get the last one but overheard that they are getting more stock in just not sure when
All melbourne CBD telstra stores are out of stock

    Thanks OP !

Tried on line chat 3 times - Amvil, ma Luisa and carla. No dice as existing customer… :(
Amazing that businesses do not value existing customers and encourage them to go elsewhere

    • It clearly states port in, so port out and port back in again.

      • They are essentially trying to increase their customer base. Comes across like they don't value existing/loyal customers. All businesses do this though.

Port out/port in apparently doesn't work sometimes, people have already posted this.

        • I guess ignore the free 5gb Telstra gave to loyal customers this week then….

        • @scuderiarmani: except port-in and new customers can also get this 5gb free. Telstra just isn't looking after their existing customers, but the same can be said for ALL telcos

  • Does anyone know the cancellation cost? States ~700 but it's not clear after which period + do you need to pay handset off?

    • +1

In my contract, I think cancellation cost is around $2400 consist of $14xx handset and the rest for the plan

    • +1

It's the plan's cost + the phone which you have to pay back

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/5692784/redir

So, ~$700 + ~$1450 + anything else you get bundled in (Int'l calls $10 per month). Probably get charged for the freebies as well.

      • +1

        that's insane

        • +1

          Yeah exactly.
It's actually cheaper simply not to use it then cancel it.

        • +1

@pennypincher98:I know right, you can get 3 x 12 months for Kogan mobile for $700, they're on sale for 40% quite frequently as well (some people might prefer Telstra to Kogan for better reception as well - YMMV)

    GOOD NEWS:
I just got my online order and even though she said i wont get the google home mine. I got the home mini/earphones.
Seems like everyone is going to get the same until they run out of home mini/earphones.

    • Wrapped in same vacuum-wrapped package?

      • +1

Yep. My housemate got his from the store yesterday and it's exactly the same as his.

        • Brilliant. Thanks for the heads up!

    • That's quick. Mine still says pending from the tracking link. My number still has not been ported over to Telstra.
      "Connect Mobile Service
      Your order is pending.
Go Mobile Plus BYO Plan - $59
      New Phone and Tablet Feeling"

      • +1

Who did you talk to who managed to sign you up on the Go Mobile Plus Plan??

99.9% of us on the Family and Friends plan. Enjoy your $90 cashback from Cashrewards :D

        • how do you do the cashback, i click the link and it just loops to the same page?

        • @911r: Did you get the "Go mobile plus BYO plan" or the "Friends and Family plan"?

        • @pennypincher98: Go Mobile Plus BYO Plan - $59

        • @911r: Hmm, I don't know as I haven't signed up yet. Everyone I talk to is wanting to sign me up on the other one :/

  • Lol..this guy might have taken the snapshot inside JB and post it straight away…

    • Entrepreneur

    • I've just sold it for $1000 in Gumtree, in case anyone is wondering about the "market value".

Yes I am sure could hold off and go for $1100 (there are a number of phones trying to sell at that price in Gumtree), or $1150 like the ad in Ebay. But I want to sell it quick, and sold it within 2 days, all in cash. So no Ebay fees etc which are rip off anyway.

  • I happened to be in Parramatta this morning so went to westfield Telstra store, guy in store said no issues with me upgrading from my $49 BYO to this plan but they don't have any more in stock. They should get more stock in a week. Checked both Pixel 2 and 2Xl, edges are bit squarish unlike iphone or samsung etc and orange tint is very prominent on Pixel 2 and mild blue tint on 2xl. They both manufactured in Nov 2017.

    • +1

Yeah, they're honestly pretty ugly phones for 'flagships'. I'd rather a HTC U11+ myself.

    • I found the tint an issue too but changing the colour settings to saturated solves it.

    • @skon23 - can you please PM me the rep name if possible? I'm planning on heading there this arvo and want to try exactly this :)

      • Sorry mate , I didn't get his name but they don't have any stock now. I called up Telstra sales 1800 676 642 yesterday evening and spoke to Don, even he was ok to upgrade my plan. I wanted to check the phone before buying.

        • no probs. thanks mate

  • sigh…having no luck with Telstra online, keep saying the offer is instore only and trying to offer the near double price online, any time frame when you aren't dealing with overseas reps? they are trying their best but others are getting this very deal online but I'm getting declined

  • geez not only being declined online for the deal, now the overseas rep is saying 'that' $59 deal you are leasing and don't own the handset
