  • Does this work for new account created after I write this? :)

    • +4

Definitely not man. You should keep some spare one's for times like this :)

      • Sounds like a plan ;)

        • The trend is up, I'm holding out for $30.

      • +1

        Why?

Why wouldnt it work on a just newly created account?

  • +29

Rewards for not actually using their service…

    • +8

Yeah don’t understand their logic behind this.

Inactive user: gets $10 voucher for being inactive. Buys stuff worth $10 and goes back to being inactive.

What they should instead be doing is set some amount that if you spend this much in a month or so, you will get $20, $30 etc. voucher. What this will do is get people to spend more just to reach threshold to get discount vouchers.

      • +6

        Loyalty is dead!

        • +1

Yeah don’t understand their logic behind this.

It's basic marketing. I imagine ebay being a big company has spent resources researching the best use of marketing dollars to increase users on their platform, this being one example.

      • +1

Maybe, based on your searches in feeBay, they can send you e-mails to entice you to buy more items.
I received a lot of e-mails from feeBay recently. They obviously cannot tell whether I was browsing feeBay for similar listings to decide what to set the price of my items or I actually want to purchase items. I get e-mails for similar items I just sold or listed to sell.

Or, they just want to pump up the revenue. Large shareholders care more about revenue coz they consider the business is growing if the revenue increases.

      • This comment every time there's an eBay voucher promo going. Do you really think eBay's marketing team is that dumb? This current system obviously provides them with more revenue in the long term with new customers.

        • If they have to give away $10 credit for free it’s clearly not working. Point here is whether to give it to inactive users or regular

        • So if it's not working why do they keep doing it?

      • Apparently, someone's KPI has "monthly active user / growth" as a goal. It would also look good on eBay AU's report to the headquarter.

    • It's not meant to be a reward, it as an inducement

  • +1

It's extremely random as to whether they give a voucher or not - got on last time though

  • Inactive as in haven't bought anything or not logged on?

  • Got about 10 accounts to use this with, thanks for the reminder

    • With 10 PayPals?

      • Multiple accounts can share the same PayPal account. I cannot remember the limit per PayPal account. For buying, it is easy to create new PayPal accounts.

  • Can you combine it with prewinter

  • Where is the voucher code?

  • How come I didn't see the $20 voucher on eBay page? Sorry but can someone help to provide link?

    • +3

I should have made it a bit more clearer on the OP. I will update that. You need to enter your email address on the page provided and if you are eligible eBay will send you a $20 voucher within 48 hours.

        wth who is negging you.

        • +10

          wth who is negging me

        • @Letrico: Someone that just maxed their 5 for the day it seems.

        • @Letrico:

The same person who negged me it seems lol

        • It was me barry! I was negging you

      • +3

Hi Monty, I was the first to neg this post because of this:

        more clearer

Sorry man; nothing personal, I just couldn't take it.
Not sure why another user neg'd you, sometimes they just jump aboard the gravy train

What constitutes inactive, no buying or selling, or not logging in?

    • I'm wondering this myself. I've logged into ebay over the past 12 months but haven't sold or purchased anything.

  • Used the last $10 voucher on another account, so technically haven't purchased anything on the inactive account. Have applied will see if receive the $20

  • +11

This makes me want to, not buy anything from eBay for 12 months…

  • its not there anymore…

    • It's still there i just tried. I clicked the link in a incognito window and it opened up with the box there to put the email address in. Try on your phone maybe. Or close for a while then try again.

      • Thanks OP. I suggest you make the equivalent of the above statement in your listing bold.
Some lazy people like me just skim through your post and quickly want to click on the picture to get it and then got all confused.

        Incoginito window worked for me.

      • thanks all g

  • Doesn't work for me… times out every time… o.O

    • Me too. Using Private Window in Firefox.

      • yep… same

      • Ahh, it finally worked on my phone… work Mac is out o.O

        • yep, didn't work on the pc but worked on the phone.
Said something like We will send you out a voucher within 48 hours if you qualify.
I almost missed the message as I was looking at something else, and then it loaded another ebay page on its own.

  • It popped up for me again, I created a brand new hotmail, registered and got the "sorry you're not eligible".

My theory: Somehow it will pick up your IP or any form of connection from that PC to eBay. Even in incognito mode, it will still detect you have used eBay before on that PC, no matter what browser you used.

My guess, it only works with untouched PCs that haven't even logged in eBay with any username.

    No More Vouchers! :(

  • Thanks, submitted with a new account I made two weeks ago to try for the previous deal. Worth noting that a few days after I set up the new account I was emailed a 20% discount (max $50) voucher - YMMV.

  • Do you need to have a linked paypal account to be eligible?

  • Thanks, I just got a couple.

  • I guess it blew my chances when I recently purchased something (my first and only purchase) and the seller refunded me 'cos they discovered they only had damaged stock left.
Got an email from eBay today asking how my "purchase was" and a link to review it!

How do I tell them that the purchase didn't really go through an that I'm therefore an inactive user?

    • active as you have bought the item and it has been refunded… try the chat.
Hopefully someone nice will be nice enough to offer you the voucher :D

  • +1

Managed to put in my email address but as soon as i hit submit (and did a couple of captcha). It lead me to a blank screen with
    “/whyebay/thanks”
    Am i all gee?

  • Shall we do the two steps in which order?

  • I registered a new account at 1am this morning before being aware of this, not sure when it became active, but haven't received any codes from them.

  • Dammit I don't use ebay that much, but I bought something in May. :(

  • -3

Belongs in the forums, not really a "deal" per se…

  • Just to let everyone else know i didn't get the $20 voucher since i bought something a few days ago … but i did live chat earlier and told the lady that I didn't get the $10 voucher from the previous deal. She then offered to provide me a $15 voucher for not receiving the $10 voucher. Her name is Adele if anyone wanted to try their luck in getting the $10, $15 or maybe $20 code. I didn't ask for $20 since i bought something already.

  • +1

    Still waiting for voucher

  • Have they taken down the submission form? I can't find where I can enter my email.

    • I just opened the link in an incognito window and can access the submission form. Try again and see if it works now.

      • All good now!

  • +2

Got my $20 voucher this morning.

    • Congrats. I didn't think eBay would send anyone a voucher. Just get people excited and never send it.

      • I was surprised to be honest when I saw it in my email inbox. Admittedly I haven't used my ebay account for over 12 months other than just to log into it.

  • +1

I just got my $20 voucher, I just told them I didn't get one..haha, thanks OP

  • Just had a chat with them and they generated a $20 off code!
    WOOP
    Already used it bloody awesome!

    • they wouldn't for me, said please wait the full 48 hours.

  • Also spoke to live chat. They generated a $20 code with an expiry of April 30

  • Finally got ebay to give me a voucher, just spent $19.98… now to let the account go inactive again ;)

  • Hi just wondering if this would stack with the 5% off at the moment ??

  • I use eBay all the time. My last purchase less than 5 days ago.

I suggest you try your e-mail at this coupon regardless because it worked for me!

  • just contacted live chat - they wouldn't give me a code and said I had to wait 4 - 5 days as there is a problem with the email

    • +1

same thing but was told to wait 1 day and nothing so far.

  • I just got an email after 3 or 4 days, but it only had a $10 code, not $20. Even though the T&Cs link in the email is clearly for a $20 code. I'm gonna have to get onto live chat with them at some point.

  • +1

Just did live chat - and got voucher processed in under a minute.

    https://www.ebay.com.au/help/start_chat

Account > Fees, credits and invoices

Me: - Hello - just a query on the $20 voucher to spend on what you like - https:….. - I have filled out form multiple times - but get no email

Them: Thank you for contacting eBay Australia Live Chat. My name is XXX. May I have your full name please?

Me: Quick question . Each time I visit your site, it states I could be eligible for a $20 voucher. I complete the email. It tells me to check email, but no email has ever arrived.

Them: We do apologise for the inconvenience. We received same reports from other members regarding this. No worries, I will process the voucher here for you.

Them: Thank you for waiting. I already have the voucher for you. Here's the code: XXX

    • Tried exactly what you did today. Was told he processed it and I’d receive one via email in 48 - 72 hours.

Got an email 4 hours later saying I’m not eligible despite never making a purchase on this account.

  • Finally got one. Spoke to 2 people. One insisted I already create an account (even though the terms don't say so). So I ended up opening an account and said I refused to wait…

  • I can see it with Microsoft Edge and IE but not Chrome.

eBay is trying to reduce the redemption rate by releasing the vouchers as close to 31/3 as they can, if at all. That's in direct conflict with their T&C, which clearing states:

"5. To participate in this offer, enter your email address where indicated at https://welcome.ebay.com.au/whyebay during the Offer Period to receive a voucher from eBay by email. eBay will email the voucher to the email address provided by you within 48 hours of your submission."

Here's what I got from live chat:

    03:34:21 UTC Mukesh
Let me pull up your details here first.
    03:36:37 UTC Mukesh
I'm so sorry to hear that you haven't receive your voucher. Here's the thing, I will send your details to our management and they will update you within a few days.
    03:38:36 UTC me
I believe it was meant to be sent out within 48hrs of submission
    03:38:40 UTC me
It's been 2 weeks. I can't help but think this is a case of false advertisement. The T&Cs clearly indicate that the voucher would be sent out with 2 days. Do you agree that the T&C is in direct conflict with reality?
    03:39:15 UTC Mukesh
I do apologise for the inconvenience. The redemption rate so far has been too high.
    03:39:24 UTC me
That's preposterous. This must have been a business decision to offer the promotion. If the redemption rate was too high for your liking, then retract the offer and stop luring customers in!
    03:39:29 UTC me
    I call this false advertising.
    03:39:41 UTC Mukesh
Hopefully you'll receive the voucher soon.
    03:39:48 UTC me
Consciously breaching your own T&Cs can't be right.
    03:39:59 UTC Mukesh
I do apologise for the inconvenience.

I also had live chat with them, and got the same result which I think is an excuse for their fault.

    • +2

Don’t expect to hear anything back. I had a similar chat over a week ago and every time I follow up I’m told to just wait for an update.

    • +2

I've reported this to the ACCC. Sick of eBay

    • Had the same argument but still unable to get a voucher. Was told a bunch of excuses from missing date of birth to "winners are selected at random" which aren't align with what they claim at all. Getting my case "escalated" is leading nowhere either. Reached out to the ACCC as well for complaint.

      • yes - very sneaky. If you don't put date of birth in your account, eBay disqualifies you as they require you to be over 18 years old. This is not mentioned when I followed up in live chat.

        • Apparently you have to use live chat for ebay to enter date of birth. So this disqualified many people.

        • @perthhunter: Even going through this and having my dob updated through LiveChat, I was told to re-submit my email and that I would get the voucher. Never did. I suspect it's BS and they use this as it vaguely aligns with the 18 years old policy but it seems even with the date of birth it wasn't possible to get my voucher…

  • Finally got mine and it would not let me use it using my computer, tryied everything.

I ended up trying the mobile app and it worked first go.

    • How'd you get one?

      • Created a new account then done the same as above.
