Optus $20 Entertainer 24mth Plan - 2GB Data, Galaxy Tab A8, w/Video & Music Streaming Quota Free

160

This deal is back again after 11 months!I missed out last time but I grabbed it today and I'm very happy with it.

If you do get the deal, go into your account settings on the Optus app and make sure the data free streaming option is activated. Mine wasn't, but luckily I checked it when I set it up.

  • I stil don't understand why tablets have such large bezel's but phones do not!

I remember buying a nexus 7 years ago, so excited about the portability. Then when I got it, I was so disappointed at its size! That was 2013 - not a lot has moved forward since then in terms of tablet design.

why tablets have such large bezel's but phones do not!

The bezel on a tablet is handy for holding it without obscuring the screen. It has no downside.
With a phone, you want it as narrow as possible to fit more easily in a pocket, and be held in one hand by the edges.

OTOH, the notched screen is a stupid gimmick because a bezel at the top & bottom doesn't matter much.

Why is this a great deal?

It seems after reselling the tablet you get about $200 making it $140 per year, for 2gb of data per month. Ok you get free streaming of netflix and a few other apps, but you need a paid subscription for most anyway, doesn't sound like a great deal. Am I missing something?

  • $10 per 1GB up to $1500 or higher— wow. could add up quick
Watching Netflix uses about 1 GB of data per hour for each stream of standard definition video, and up to 3 GB per hour for each stream of HD video.

    YT/NF zero-rated to avoid a $20 per hr Entertainer? [FB/Insta/vimeo?]
Vid quality good plus reliable over the LTE ie > SD?

    • Netflix, Stan, 7 Tennis and Commonwealth games, and ABC Kids, Iview and Me are the only data free Video streaming apps and they're restricted to 1.5mbps.

You can't please everyone but I think the quality is acceptable on the screen. No complaints here (ACT) on the reliability but that comes down to how good the Optus network is wherever you will be using it.

Thanking your candidness. Too bad uncharged YouTube wasn't there, alongside many others that'll have to screen elsewhere.

      • lol Youtube is never unmetered anywhere….If like me you have Youtube Red, you can simply download locally and take it around. I think it's a good deal…it's essentially paying $10 each for Unmetered Video and Music streaming, and getting a free tablet.

  • Got one for spotify in my car.

  • I can't find written anywhere in my half asleep state- if I choose to data pool this plan with my existing Optus postpaid phone service, will the data free streaming(Nexflix etc) also work on my phone sim? Seems a decent way to get the entertainment package + 2gb extra + free tablet.

    • No.

I have a pool and each device has its own set of benefits. I.e. my phone can stream music and my tablet can stream both. But the raw data does pool

      • Great, thanks for letting me know.

  • I've been doing research and looking for a non 4G tablet to be my GPS. Does anyone use galaxy tab as there daily navigation?

    • Yes you can use this as your GPS. Google maps(online) here maps(offline) etc

      • You can also use Google maps offline by saving a section of the map where you would anticipate going. The traffic data would be absent though.

  • Just ordered one, amazing value.

Especially for anyone with a lengthy commute to work that wants to watch a bit of netflix or abc iview.

  • What if i remove the sim and put it in my 4gIpad will it still be free streaming?
