  Yep, the only knives you really need are a Chef's, a bread, and a paring knife. The only problem with buying just those is finding a block suitable for just those.

anyone know why these knives are so much more expensive than say https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/360085 ? Do the blades never dull or rust? Genuine question

  Edge retention on Japanese knives are much better, the steel is harder.
  Wiltshire is pretty basic, once you use a nice knife compared to a k-mart/target/bigw $30 knife you will feel the difference.
  
  Notes: I would not buy Global if you want a true japanese knife, the steel is too soft in this to be a true japanese knife. It's a western-style knife made by a Japanese company (I have 3 x global knives for transparency)
  Consider a Tojiro VG10 knife if you really want a true Japanese knife. Misono is quite good as well but pricey.
  
  My favourite knife for value is Victorinox Fibrox handle (you can pay a little extra like I did for the Rosewood handle), around $50-$60.

      If you want a true japanese knife, they're called wa-gyuto, however the wooden handle might be a bit off-putting compared to a Gyuto which has a western style handle (making it easier to clean)

      Get chefs knife, paring knife as a minimum.
      Bread knife - up to you if you need it.

  I have this set. The blades do rust if you leave the knives wet. If you wash and dry them after using they won't rust.

I bought the single 20cm cook's knife around 2 years ago (cost me around $100 for just 1) and have been waiting to get this at a great price so i can throw out my other random collection of garbage knives. Its going to be so nice to have the knives in a block on the bench. Thanks for the post.
I guess now i can gift my old blade to someone.
