  • Is anyone aware of how the 2-year Aus warranty will work with stores like Sydneytec given they have no physical stores (unlike other sellers like Binglee, JB hifi etc.)

    • +1

You can either deal with retailer directly or to Samsung through their stores or online,
As for the retailer with no physical stores, your most likely going to have to send it through post directly to them, depends on either you have to foot the postage cost or not. But not likely no

That’s not entirely true, the ACL is with the seller Sydneytec not the manufacturer. The manufacturer has their 1year warranty that is offered by them. So if you didn’t buy it from Samsung it’s 1year from Samsung and 2 years from Sydneytec.

        • +1

Sections 59(1) and 59(2) of the ACL explain guarantees as to express warranties as being a liability of both the manufacturer and supplier on equal terms.

        • That’s not entirely true, the ACL is with the seller Sydneytec not the manufacturer.

          That's correct.

Under the ACL you can approach the manufacturer, however, you will only be entitled to recover costs from them, which include an amount for reduction in the product’s value and in some cases compensation for damages or loss. You cannot demand a repair, replacement or refund from the manufacturer.

The manufacturer has their 1year warranty that is offered by them. So if you didn’t buy it from Samsung it’s 1year from Samsung and 2 years from Sydneytec.

Samsung offers a 2 year warranty

          @crno2012:

Do not confuse express warranties with rights under the ACL.

Section 59 only makes it so that warranty promises (express warranties) made by the manufacturer are honoured by the retailer and manufacturer.

Consumer guarantee rights under the ACL fall with the retailer and not the manufacturer

Samsung has authorised repair centres that you can take your phone to

      • Thanks for the replies guys. So the 2-year warranty would begin from the date of my purchase from Sydneytec (or whichever company I buy from?)

        • +1

          Happy to help!

Yes it would be from the date on your invoice

        • @spaceflight: Sorry if this sounds like a silly question but is it basically the same as buying the phone through a telco whereby the phone is under a 2yr warrenty through Samsung?

        • @Talla:

          It's not a silly question.

The answer is yes it is the same.

As long as you are buying an Australian model from an authorised Samsung reseller it is covered by the Samsung 2yr warranty

          http://www.samsung.com/au/support/warranty/

        • @spaceflight: Thank you so much for clarifying that!

    • You are covered by ACL regardless.

I paid $749 using the goodguys sale. They also invoiced me for the full amount ($937) so I should get around $85 back through TRS next month. Winning.

    • +1

Is that the normal size or the plus? Do you have a link?

      • +4

Probably the regular one in this deal - Samsung Galaxy S8 - Black/Gold $749.60 @ The Good Guys eBay

        • Ah ok thanks for that, was looking around as well and couldn’t find the plus for that price

        • You're right. My mistake

        • Champion! Couldn't find this on my mobile.. Thanks!!

      • Yep. My bad. I did not spot the plus in the title on this post. Still pretty happy that invoice didn't show the discounted price.

    • Cool, I havent seen any good guys sale for the s8 plus for that price…was it on OzB?

  • +1

Good deal but I actually want the dual some version. It surprises me that it isn't easier for them to just make the one model like one plus do

    • I believe carriers frown on dual SIM version.

      • Time for the phone manufacturers to tell the carriers to go jump. Apple started with the first iPhone, it's time to finish the job

        • Apple has the clout to do it. But Android?…. Maybe Samsung but considering they can't even release a dual SIM version locally…

  • Sell my pixel xl 2 with some change for this?

    • If you like the Samsung skin it's great phone. Regardless it has great hardware but the skin is not for everyone. If os smoothness is a big thing to you I would stay with the Pixel 2.

      • Thanks. Yeah smoothness is better than a brighter screen I guess

        • Believe me, samsung has improved heaps when it comes to smoothness. Even my S7 is holding up well after 2 years. With the massive performance increase in the S9 i reckon you guys should forget about the stigma regarding touchwiz being laggy. That was ages ago and now its just as good. With 1 or 2 more generations it'll be perfect.

        • @steven231:
I went and checked it out in store.pixel just feels like more premium phone. I don't know if its the slipperiness or just the screen. Pixel feels so much nicer, even better than s9

        • Interesting? How so? If its the non xl version, don't the bezels look outdated? XL version looks much better though.

        • @steven231: yeah I have the xl. Hard to say why, but even my wife said the same. The pixel just feels good

        • Interesting! I was gonna go for the pixel 2 xl but decided for the non plus s9. The S9 just has features not offered in stock android and the experience just feels fuller in my opinion. I can also use different launchers whenever feel like it. I must admit the camera on the pixel is insane.

        • +1

@steven231: yeah I guess in the end they're both good phones.and should be happy with either

  • Not dual sim right?

    • No, only for imports

      • -1

U know the new s9 and S9Plus are dual sim for aus local stock?

        • Are they? I cant see anything confirming this….

        • No clue about the new s9. But it's usually for imports pre s9

        • @Jamesbargain: From what Ive read now it points to singles also unfortunately…

        • @pointnlarf:
That’s a shame :( i’m after dual sim and I thought all s9 comes with dual sim hybrid tray which can be either use for SIM card or memory card :(

        • @bargainhereicome:
Yeah its crazy to me also that they go to the effort to leave them out for certain markets…

  • Man, was looking for gear sport, seem like they increase the price for this sell. $400 too expensive

  • Hmmm the current model s9 has buyback for you current phone up to $350. But you do have to preorder and you will get a Samsung fast charger stand as well

  • last deal is $689 in same store ?

    • There might have been a deal for the S8 for around that price but not the S8 plus

  • Can't decide.. S8+ or Note 8 or S9+.. currently on S7E

    • S9+ latest and greatest, why not! :P

You can trade in your S7E at the moment there's a bonus $125 trade-in value promotion too that runs until mid April to knock off the price.
