  • How do you upgrade the parts in these all-in-one pc? Like the graphics and add more ram and possibly a SDD.

    • +9

      You can't upgrade the graphics, but the RAM and SSD you can slide off the back cover to get access to;

    • -7

      I'm pretty sure you dont

    • -4

Why add more ram, unless ur video editing or running multiple VM 8gb is fine for gaming.

      • +6

Maybe he IS doing those, or rendering.

24 tabs of pronhub. Gets really laggy with all those thumbnails buffered

        • Switch to xvideos and you can get a few more tabs

        • Would take a week to load on my net connection.

        • Exactly need a smooth fast tab changing for all them research of porn website I'm doing

"Removing just two screws will get you access to the storage, while another three get you right at the motherboard."

    • +11

And another 4 will make the whole thing fall apart lol

  • Good price. It was selling for $17xx on special few months ago. I got my wife the Ryzen 7 version from Dell with the 20% off for $19xx. Wife is super happy with it.

    • would there be much performance difference? I know diddly about pc specs these days… cheers

      • I suppose it depends on what you want to do on the PC

        • net, 3d modelling, video etc

        • +1

          @heathwithnoteeth:

I think for this, best to double check with Starburst, I think the Ryzen 7 one had the better video card too, so if you do some 3D modelling, might be worth taking a look at that one instead if it's at $17xx

      • It's a ryzen 7 1700, has an m.2, rx 580 so better graphics performance. And it also has a 4k resolution.

Reason why I bought from Dell directly was simple.

When I wanted to buy it, JB didn't have a sale so price wasn't $1798, but instead was rrp $2198. I went to 3 stores asking for best price, and all 3 gave me $50 off maximum. Wife would have been happy with OP deal as can get it right then and there, but not for rrp - $50.

So I told her, for that price, I can get the highest spec model from Dell ebay (20% off) , and be cheaper than rrp-$50. :)

Build quality is very good. Go in store and touch when when you can. Screen is also not reflective at all, which was one of my wife's requirement.

    • Hmm, I wonder if that would work okay for a developer PC. Are ryzen's okay with virtual machines etc?

  • +5

Nice deal, but just keep in mind you'd probably want to install an SSD, and it's 1080p on a 27".

  • Infinity display?? It's only 1080p!!

    • +8

'Infinity Edge Display' refers to it's border-less design and has nothing to do with the screen resolution, but in case you were making a joke, I use a 1080p 27" monitor at home for general internet browsing, as well as console gaming and it's perfectly fine.

    • +1

      Is 4k Infinity display. That's still 3840x2160. Still a ways a way.

    • I was being cheeky but if I didn't check I would have assumed 4k … my fault for not checking though.

      I recently change from a 27" 1080p to a 27" 1440p Dell Ultrasharp - 1440p is awesome!

  • "Even on lower settings"?
    Perhaps only on lower settings?

    • +2

I think it's read as "able to play some recent titles even - on lower settings"

  • +1

1080p on 27 inch is a bit grainy. I have 2 x 24" IPS FullHD monitors in front of me, and they feel rather grainy.

    • Once you go 4k there's no going back

      • +9

So don't go 4k in the first place? Okay can do :D

      • *hdr

    • +4

I agree. The absolute minimum for 27" should be 2560x1440.

    • I'm currently using an older 1080p 27" LG IPS display, it's… not spectacular, 80 ppi is rough, even for Windows.

That being said, it's definitely usable. I'd imagine the quality of the display in this Dell AIO is probably better than that of my LG display that's a few years old, so most people would probably be fine with it.

      • well, my home PC is hooked to a 1080p 55" TV. it's completely fine when looking at it from the couch! it's all a function over distance.

1080p is great on 15" laptop, and on 5" phone, and on 55" TV, and on 23" monitor.

        but on 27" monitor it's grainy, so it's a "I don't mind" situation.

        • It's also probably a better fit for the RX 560 in this scenario, you can at least game at low settings at 1080p/native res in several modern games, which isn't something that's possible at 1440p.

  • +1

Yeah…1080p on a 27" monitor is not going to look right.

    • +4

For my eyes 720p is sufficient lol

    • +5

Typing this in front of a 32.5" 1080p monitor, honestly can't tell.

      • It depends how far you sit away from the monitor.

When I had a 1080p 27" monitor, it was way back on my desk. When I switched to a 1440p one, I moved it closer (about an arms-length away), to avoid having to scale absolutely everything and negate the resolution improvement.

    • +8

I've got my 4k right next to my 1080p and honestly, it doesn't bother me. The need for higher resolution is definitely blown out of proportion.

      • I guess it depends on what you're used to. I've been on a 1440 27" monitor for a long time now, so would hate to go back to 1080p.

        • +1

I think harder is going from 120hz+ back to 60hz.

      • +1

Couldn't agree more. Writing this on a 27" imac connected to a 27" 1080 as the second display and it's perfectly fine.

  • +3

Whoa, a Ryzen all-in-one, that alone is a great step forward!
Good for those don't wanna see cables and just plug-n-play.

  • as much as i love AIO and have quite a few of them.
I've had 2 DELL AIO die within a couple of weeks.

both with motherboard issues.. not worth replacing

    • We are in the same boat
Bought a Inspiron24 end of last year
Main issue is it decided to shut itself when I am working, just randomly
Dell is good in that they have replaced a brandnew mother board, same problem
Then replaced with a brandnew set, still same problem
So now we await refund and return.

It's a pity because everything else seem quite ok….

  • As someone who hasn't owned a desktop in 15 years or so and never tried to upgrade one, how easy would it be to put an SSD into one of these? And is there anything you would have to do to make it recognise and use the new drive?

  • Does anyone know if this has a VESA mount?

Uh oh, maybe hold off on Ryzens until the latest security flaws (along the lines of meltdown and spectre) have been addressed

    https://www.digitaltrends.com/computing/amd-ryzenfall-vulner…

    • +9

These "security flaws" are widely agreed to be mostly FUD, despite otherwise being somewhat legitimate. The initial coverage of them seemed to be aimed more at affecting AMD's stock price (I mean one of them is (profanity) called "RYZENFALL"…)

They all pretty much require either physical access to the machine, and/or root access for software permissions. Hell, one of them even boils down to "if you flash a sketchy BIOS, sketchy things might happen." These sorts of vulnerabilities are arguably applicable to pretty much every PC system, be it AMD, Intel, or otherwise. If a person with malicious intent had such low-level access to your system, these 'vulnerabilities' are probably the least of your concerns.

It's a bit like saying "Your house has a severe vulnerability if you leave the key to the front door out in the open on your porch, because then someone can get inside your house and install security cameras without you knowing", because the statement is technically true, but ultimately a misleading attempt at kicking up fear. If you leave the key to the front door visible in the open, you're already compromised.

The wording in the report seems kind of fishy too, almost emotionally charged in some parts. That combined with the fact that this "CTS Labs" group gave AMD 24hrs of notice, and had seemingly already briefed press on it, it just doesn't add up. There's also evidence they green-screened their "offices" for the videos they uploaded, and that CTS Labs is the same entity responsible for a piece of adware and they just changed their website up a little bit.

EDIT: Here are some sources for further reading or investigation.

GamersNexus - Assassination Attempt on AMD by Viceroy Research & CTS Labs, AMD "Should Be $0"
Reddit user finds CTS Labs was formerly known as Flexagrid Systems Inc., responsible for the Crowdcores Adware
      CTS Labs fabricating their offices
And then a couple of Twitter threads, one and two discussing how this appears to have been specifically set up to attack $AMD.

      • tmr3 you are 100% correct! This was done to bring down AMD's share price, so Intel wasn't the only one suffering, they've done this before, therefore make it an industry wide problem.

AMD capitulated since they've partnered with Intel on Graphics integrated solutions, but old IT hands know what this is all about, and yes, releasing to AMD with only 24 hours notice is way off industry best practice.

  • Seriously good deal for the whole package. Would totally buy one if I had a need for it :)

  • +2

What's a rough price comparison with a similar desktop and monitor setup?

I'm assuming the all in one is a bit pricier but by how much?

    Just saw this in person.

The display is very average…the pixels are huge! For a 27" display 1080p just doesn't cut it.

    • thanks. my parents are getting one so for them, its probably a good thing as they are ancient.

  • -2

Thanks for the OZB listing but I'll pass on this one. Intel have also goofed but this below is next level.

  • Looking at this deal, it doesnt have a dvd drive. How does one play games? External drive? Would that compromise the speed? Anyone?

    • +1

It has a 1TB drive which you install games onto.

      Physical media is dead.

Most people would get their PC games via download.

  • My parents got thus. Struggles with Windows 10, heaps of errors after it updates etc. makes you wonder who does windows 10 certification?

    • Seems to be okay for me, I upgraded mine with a 250Gb 960EVO and did a fresh install of Windows 10
