  Anyone tried using external monitor sith this e480?

  It only have hdmi. I tried buying a hdmi to displayport since my current. My nitor has display port and dvi.

  Unfortunately, it could not detect tje monitor.

  I bought another hdmi to displayport and still could not detect the external monitor.

  I connected the thinkpadcto my hdmi tv and it was working. So my questuon is, does this laptop only works using hdmi to hdmi connection?

  I spome to lenovo support but not able to help.

    Are you sure you were using HDMI to DP adapters and not the other way around? You need an active adapter (usually $50+) to convert a HDMI source to displayport; the cheap DP to HDMI adapters are not reversible. You'd be much better off getting a cheap HDMI to DVI passive adapter.

      Msy description on the lable says hdmi to dp. I am not aware that there is another cable that works the other way around.

      I even went to msy to bring the laptop and ask to try another hdmi ti dp cable and still same result.

      I ask to replace it with hdmi to dvi xable and test at home as they dont have a spare monitor to test dvi connection.

      Finally, it worked using hdmi to dvi-d and you're right, its cheaper.
