  with the specs it's running, you can definitely do light gaming but if you are doing much more extreme tasks, seems like the laptop isn't very good with thermals when you stress the machine under load

  If you want excellent build quality you'll have to step up from the E-series to the T-series.
  
  This is good for the price.
  
  Another big plus for me is the matte screen. I hate the fashion for mirrored glossy screens - if I'd wanted a mirror, I'd have bought one!

I am trying to customized it by adding additional memory and see how it will go with the coupon code.

I went to check out and I'm at the payment section where it was asking me to input the credit card number or paypal details but i missed where to input the coupon code.

  USB 2.0 allows more devices to be used (and most don't need the high bandwidth USB 3.0 provides) by maintaining open PCI-E lanes for other peripherals. USB 3.0 requires a large amount of bandwidth, which can congest existing PCI-E lanes.

  For the specs, yes - that's good value for money. However it looks like the i5 using integrated graphics has far better temperatures. If you don't intend to game or push the processor hard, maybe the cheaper model is the better option.

    Yeah, temp doesn't both me as much as battery life. I think the 620 is much more power efficient than discreet cards.

3 weeks shipping (from china) + delivery approximately 5-7 business days after your order has shipped = roughly 4 weeks (WoW !!!)

From when did Thinkpad "E" series become a hot deal for $1085 (Lenovo regular prices are highly inflated)

I would think the E480 would be a hot deal for $885 considering it is a very recently released 2108 model.

In the past highend E series with similar specs have gone on sale for anywhere between $720 to $835

Many people seem to think that ALL "Thinkpads" are created equal but they are not.
If you need the "REAL" Thinkpad Build quality you have to get only the T series or the Carbon X series.

      Well the specifications and the performance were good at that time for a 2017 model and remember the price is also the 2017 price and not the end of model liquidation price.
      
      Newer models comes with slightly better specifications but would it make sence to Pay 50% more.
      
      Example:
      The 2019 E490 which will be released next year and would come with a newer generation i7 processor and few other minor improvements. But would this incremental improvements justify a 50% price increase?
      
      Would a sensible person pay 50% more that is $1627 ($1085 + 0.5*$1085) for the 2019 model?
      
      Would you pay 50% more for a Galaxy S9 than the Galaxy S8 price. Yes the S9 comes with a better processor but ……
      
      My point is the new model with a slightly increased specs does NOT warrant a 50% price increase.

Just got this on the previous deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/362873 (was lucky to get both DEALS and double RAM for free). Although mine is the i5 and onboard graphics version, initial thoughts are positive. Good specs for the price and feels like solid build quality while also being light (<2kg). No real issues with heat although it does get warm under heavy use and can imagine that it would heat up quite a bit with the i7 and RX550 GPU.

As for delivery times, got mine in 8 days (WA).

E580 user here, and I believe the E480 is the similar in this respect.

Be aware that the lid does show up oils from fingerprints extremely easily. Even after touching with recently washed hands, it can appear quite grubby.

My solution was to purchase vinyl wrapping for the exterior lid. Around $15 from eBay, and I found it easy to apply with a craft blade to cut the excess. The added scratch protection is a bonus. http://imgur.com/a/FbdB8

Take note that the delivery is 2-3 weeks to ship from china plus 5-7 business day deliver.

I called to get more details and i was told that for this laptop will take 2-3 weeks to ship to Aus from China plus 6-7 days delivery.

If you add customization, it will take longer.

I ask why some laptop with same model takes longer than the others listed on their website.

There is a difference in the item code, some are already in Australia why it only takes 2 days shipping llus 5 days delivery and those coming from china takes 2-3weeks to ship plus 5-7 working days delivery.
