Great price for those who want the touchscreen and flip function.

Still prefer the UX430UN with MX150 which I value more…..

    • Cant seem to find UN model in AU. Not even on the Asus Shop

*my bad, I thought I read UX461UN - This is on the Asus Au website, but cannot seem to find it for sale anywhere.

  • Up to 4Ghz!?!
This processor has quite some power behind it…

    • What's more important is the sustained 4-core frequencies, as opposed to the single-core burst frequencies.
And the U-series aren't built for high sustained clocks across all cores (they lack the power with just 15W TDP vs 45W from the H-series).
This is hinted at by the very low base clock of just 1.8GHz. The H and G series will have a base clock of greater than 3.0GHz.

Can use Intel Extreme Tuning Utility to add extra turbo boost power if the laptop cooling allows. Running an 8250U at -0.1V and 25W turbo power and it maintains all 4-cores at the full 3.4Ghz under stress tests.

        • Nice. That's the same as my 7700HQ (sustained 4-core clock of 3.4GHz under stress).

        • Yea looks like its roughly a tie in single and quad-core, but in multi core (which in this case is 8 threads for both) the lack of power seems to hurt the new U-series a bit, with the 7700HQ coming out 25% faster. Though this will only really be noticeable to people that do heavy multitasking.

Personally I would never buy from Bing Lee. They're happy to take your $$ but if you come back with some issues with your device they'll get hostile. Tried to return a $50 charger that was faulty (a day after I bought it) and the manager literally made me sat there while he insisted that he wanted to test it (i.e. make me wait at least 30 minutes to see if the charger worked). I literally had to catch a flight (hence buying the travel charger) and said I didn't have time for this and just wanted a refund. He was maing a big fuss. Told him that I had bought thousands of dollars worth of equipment from Bing Lee (which is the case, but I but never give my full personal details on the invoice). He said "Oh yeah? What's your name?" and proceeded to see if I had any sales listed in their database.

They haven't got a dollar from me since that day. Never found a deal from a mainstream retailer that another couldn't match so no loss to me either.

    • +1

That’s crap but don’t ever let retailers bully you! 30mins is ridiculous to test a faulty charger, simple as plug into 2 different power boards and off you go.

    • That's crazy that he would make you wait for 30 minutes.. but to be fair I am sure he has heard the line a million times " I have bought thousands of dollars worth of equipment" so maybe that's why he checked to see if it was true??

Out of curiosity though, if you never gave your full personal details on the invoice there, how would you be able to get a copy (in case you lose your copy/backup/ misplaced them and really needed one as a last resort scenario)

      • -2

Agreed that he's probably heard the line "I'm your best customer" before, but the thing that got me is that he was willing to waste lots of time for a $50 charger (which is worth about several dollars to source from China). Just imagine what they'd do if you came to return a faulty $1500 device.

As for the invoice, I will usually put it under initials or something like that. Sometimes my business name. All that you should need for a warranties is a valid invoice and with most things coming with a manufacturer warranty, they only need to validate the purchase date. I have little faith in the governance they have around the privacy of their customer records, so I am only going to provide them with essential details.

I dare say the manager already knew he wasn't going to get the sales history by tapping in my name but was merely trying to show me up on my claim to be a regular customer. In the end he saved $50 in sales but I can guarantee you they have lost thousands of dollars of business from me whether he believes it or not.

EDIT: Note also the return policy on their Ebay store - 7 days "exchange". Most reputable online retailers will offer a 30-day refund policy. Buyer beware because the money you save will not be worth it if you ever have an issue.

Sometimes it's not the retailer, but rather the manufacturer, I bought a laptop once from binglee, and the charger was faulty, so I end asking for a replacement charger and the manager was like sure, he test it, and send them a email. The charger was faulty he tested it, and he proceeds to call them. Call lasted about 20 minutes and apparently I needed to to my laptop and charger in original box and send it back to Acer, I was like wtf, can't they send me a replacement charger, the Bing Lee manager was also suprised hearing this. I'm not sure about ur case, but it's not always the retailers fault

        • @Bargain4Days: asus required sending back laptop for faulty chharger too

        • @Bargain4Days:
Totally agree that it's not the retailer's fault. It's about good and reliable customer service and my experience with Bing Lee on this (and other) occasions hasn't been great. Glad to hear your experience is different!

        • +1

Can't figure out why's your comment being negged. I had the same experience with bing lee, but fortunately I was able to involve paypal and get my money back as my purchase was online. Never again.

          @Bargain4Days:

Sometimes it's not the retailer, but rather the manufacture
          ACCC Consumer Guarantee
ACCC consumer guarantee states this The retailer can’t refuse to help you by sending you to the manufacturer or importer.

It's ridiculous that they made you wait for 20 minutes calling up the manufacturer. You shouldn't have to give a flip about what goes on between bing lee and the manufacturer.

The seller is obliged to give your money back to you and deal with the manufacturer on their own, because you have a basic right in Australia as a consumer to get a refund for faulty goods.

a true ozbargainer wouldnt of bought a $50 charger ;)

Actually I have had a couple of warranty claims from Bing Lee over the years and found them very helpful, no complaints. On the other The Shaver Shop must be the worst on the continent, total lack of interest after they have sold you the product.

    :)
    Hello, Cherie Yang

  • This or the surface book with performance base?
This has way better specs, but the functionality and design of the surface book is very hard to beat.
    What do you guys reckon?

    • does this come with the pen

      • Should, it says "Supplied Accessories: Carry bag + Stylus".

  • Does it come with fingerprint reader?

    • +1

I'm too lazy to look it up as well.

  • Is it good for photo editing?

    • 8th generation i7 and 16gigs of RAM should be plenty good for that, I reckon.

  • I have been a big fan of the 13 inch HP spectre x360, which is lighter, and I guess probably more compact than this. Hard to tell from the retailer’ spec list. However, prices for the Spectre are usually at MacBook Pro levels.

This price seems very good. Would JB match you reckon?

  • -1

    Is this normally $1429

  • +3

Damn so tempted as can get this for $1349 with the code, but my hp spectre x360 i7 is still too new to replace. First world problems :(

    • I will take your HP Spectre 8th gen i7 for $1k, so you can get this, ok?

  • Is this only available in the silver?

Be careful buying from bing lee. I purchased a brand new laptop, but they sent out a refurbished/used/problematic laptop to me. while I reported it within a couple of weeks or so of buying, they asked me to deal directly with Asus. After telling them that I've rights as a consumer and quoting links to ACCC's website, they asked me to send it to them. They inspected it and were going to send it back to me saying that the problem was just a minor one (the screen would flicker non-stop every once in a while).

I raised a paypal dispute and someone wrote to me from bing lee asking me to close the paypal dispute and that they will refund me (which sounded extremely fishy). I reported this to paypal, and they told me (unsurprisingly) to not close the dispute until the problem is resolved to my satisfaction, and to not respond to any communications from the sender as they were concerned about this behaviour. Paypal then refunded me in about 3 days after this incident.

I won't buy anything from bing lee, no matter what the discounts are, because they seem like an extremely dodgy seller.

    Nothing against the OP though.

Was the screen the only issue that lead you to believe it was refurbished/used? Or were there other signs that it wasn't what it was supposed to be?

      • The screen flicker was the only issue that made me believe it wasn't brand new. I did not pay much attention to it as I wanted it returned because the problem rendered the laptop unusable.

My post was more along the lines of dodgy support I received from this company, who would have instantly washed their hands off with no respect to consumer rights or their responsibilities as a seller in Australia. If not for Paypal, I'm sure that they'd have told me off.

    • +2

You bought a new laptop, "knew" it was used and then used it for a few weeks?? I dare say, using it for a few weeks then claiming is used wouldn't be inaccurate :)

      • It was about two weeks, but I hadn't started to use it all that much as I was still using my older laptop given the data was all in it. I then migrated the data and started to use it, and that's when I started seeing the problem.

Also, I couldn't say if it was used or manufacturer refurbished. It wasn't looking used in an obvious way, but I probably never paid much attention to it until I started seeing the problems.

  • Is there a version with a larger hard drive?

  • Any equivalent alternatives that we can maybe pricematch in a local store in vic instead of online bing lee?
