    Looks pretty flimsy…

Not sure ladders are something you want to cheap out on.

I wasn't aware that others were aware of how horrible these things are. I have fallen forward to the ground because it did not lock properly when using it in "straight" mode (it folded double when placed against my patio while I was on it.

        From your article:

But, using the ladder in the pyramid position requires up to 32 locking mechanisms and if one fails the ladder could collapse.

Yes, these things are horribly flimsy with too many moving parts. I got mine from eBay for $129 (pyramid/straight type) and did so with confidence because it supposedly met safety standards. But I am scared to use it because it is too wobbly (I am nowhere near the rated weight limit), and I feel like dumping it at the waste after reading that article.

I am negging this deal because I do not want follow Ozbargainers to die.

Hope you are OK buddy but this is only a straight mode version and should be easy enough to test that the locking has worked properly before using it.. is only for the caravan which I will use once or twice a year. Certainly wouldn't recommend if you are a tradey using day in day out.

I certainly take your warning though but negging the deal because you don't like the product seems a bit harsh and also with Kogan and credit card protection if it is really crap I can send it back with a proper 12 month warranty.

@sarakoth: The ones described in the article as "recalled" were the straight type.
Negging a deal because there is something wrong with the product is valid. Even when mine does not collapse, it is extremely wobbly. Yes, you need to be vigilant and ensure every single catch is locked, but when you are doing work and are tired, it is too easy to get caught out.

I know Kogan would accept returns, but that does not prevent you from getting injured.

I do agree it that no "domestic ladder" should be considered fit for tradies, and am not negging on that basis.

P.S. this is not anything against you as poster, but unfortunately that is how the voting works. I really don't want anyone to buy this.

but when you are doing work and are tired

You should not be climbing on ladders, operating power tools or doing other high risk activities

…and that, people, is what is known as a valid reason to neg

        • @Make it so: I have the 3.8 metre version of this and have been using it for years. Seems pretty solid to me even at full extension as long as you dont have it leaning at some crazy angle or overload it

      • These types of ladders are pretty popular with the military.

Whilst I cant vouch for the quality of this ladder, all ladders of this type shouldn't be written off because of one bad manufacturer.

When we use it, they are attached to a bag frame and straps called an "Alice Frame".

        Just saying.

        A nice picture:

        • I am fairly sure that the one from this deal, and related deals, come from the same manufacturer, as they have a very recognisable design and labelling. All the parts look exactly the same. So nothing against telescopic ladders in general, except that these ones are unstable. Perhaps the army could distribute them to the enemy and wait for them to kill themselves :)

    • Hey it is always wise to save $50 on a ladder get a free broken arm thrown in with it ;)

        and crushed fingers and feet

  • What could possibly go wrong.

  • It looks like I could lose a few fingers in this contraption

    Looks like rubbish.
Its only $99 for a Bunnings ladder that extends to 3.9m and does not collapse under you.

What use is a 2m ladder anyway? For a bunk bed?

  • I like how they make a riskier 5.6m version - eBay.

  • These are too dangerous to use and only a fool would get onto one once warned. Plenty of links were posted in the previous Kogan deal for this ladder of death.

Here's the previous "deal of death"
